My first time here in Mississippi meeting up with my dad for Father's Day weekend. After a fun day of crappie fishing, we went to Yamato for dinner. We were seated immediately and then greeted by a lovely server with red hair (missed her name, but she was top notch). My dad and I both ordered yakisoba - I had chicken, he had beef. Both were delicious. Thank you to our wonderful server for the new special sushi menu - we had the Chris Roll (I think that was the name), which had crab meat, avocado, and tuna on the outside with a spicy sauce, some crunch, and eel sauce. I'm not doing it justice, but it's a must try. We also had hot sake, which my dad didn't like, but he's old and picky, and I thought it was great. Thank you for a wonderful meal! Also, I should mention that as far as ambiance, it was hotter than Hades outside, so it was nice when one of the staff brought out a fan to put by our table. I ordered over the phone and the staff were courteous and professional, even going over my order a couple times to make sure everything was correct. When I arrived to pick it up they had everything prepared and were close to closing. Arriving home 20 minutes later I found a few items missing so on the off chance they were still open I gave them a call. They quickly fixed the missing items, staying open late to make it happen. Roadtrip stop on our way home to Stl from New Orleans. The beat up parking lot and dated restaurant hid a gem! We recieved wonderful service, and an excellent meal that was much healthier and about the same price as fast food. The food came lightning fast! I ordered the Teriyaki Steak Bento box which came with an assortment of Japanese specialties such as tempura eggroll, salad, miso soup, fried rice and 4 piece California roll in addition to the Teriyaki steak and veggies. I ordered it med rare and it came medium/medium well, but juicy steak bites were still delicious. My daughter got Beef tips Hibatchi which also came with salad and soup. The tender beef was really good and hibatchi had a delicious sauce that was even better than my teriyaki. I will definitely visit again. read more

This was our first trip to Grenada, and after an extremely disappointing meal at La Cabana, we were rather comprehensive in trying another restaurant in this small rural town. My in-laws usually prefer your all-American dishes so we thought Yamato would offer them something a little different. This little gem offers your standard sushi roll dishes with some sushi and habachi dinners. Instead of taking the chance in serving my in-laws raw fishes for the first time, we opted for a few appetizers such as edamame, lobster rangoons, gyozas, tempura shrimps, and the filet mignon, something I know most American would enjoy, and the food did not disappoint. We usually prefer eating at a Japanese owned sushi place but this Chinese owned eatery was better than we had expected. My sister-in-law was happy and so were we. I give this place 3 stars for what we had, plus an extra one for the wonderful service from our waitress Kayla. read more

Friendly and attentive service, fair prices and tasty food. I ordered the beef and shrimp hibachi ($12 including soup and salad), and enjoyed it, but felt they skimped on the vegetables. Great Japanese food for a great price!!! Sushi great! Steak nice and juice! The kids plates are wonderful!! It has rice and meat so there's not a lot of waste!! Was going from a road trip back to our home in Florida and came here for Hibachi and Sushi. The food was simply incredible, quick service, kind staff, wished I lived closer so I can come here everyday. I tried the filet minion, with a salad and miso soup. Food was great, service wonderful. Not a full hibachi but still worth it. Didn't try sushi but the hibachi chicken, steak, and shrimp was great. This is really one of my favorite restaurants to eat at. We have eaten here several times when we spend the night here in Grenada. Our daughter attends Ole Miss and we can never get a hotel room in Oxford or Batesville, but don't mind at all because we look forward to eating at Yamato. The service is perfect and fast. The quality of the food is outstanding and very reasonably price making the overall experience VERY rewarding! We will continue to support this business and highly recommend it if your staying in the area or just passing through and looking for some good food. I am not typically critical of restaurants. I understand how challenging it can be to work with the general public and sympathize with owners, chefs and members of waitstaff. However, it saddens me to report that although I am grateful to see a new restaurant added to the community of Grenada I cannot overlook poor service. While my dining experience started off great, when things got busy my table was forgotten as an after thought. A dining experience can only be considered great when service is good AND consistent. Perhaps more training of the waitstaff would address this lapse in service. read more
