A lot of the sales people I encountered were pushy, and downright rude. Because of my past experience, I was dreading looking for a salwar kameez but the ladies that assisted me were very kind. I explained that I'd be attending my first Bengali wedding with my new husband who was accompanying me, and wasn't sure what I was looking for. They made suggestions and suggested I try on some things to get a feel for what I liked. While you really can't expect to be modest at any sari shops, these ladies did give me a little bit more privacy than what I've experienced before and it was appreciated. I tried on 4 different styles and modeled them for my husband before narrowing down what we wanted. Keep in mind that these clothes are NOT cheap. If you have some haggling skills, you can bargain your way down $100 - $200, which we did. That being said, we did end up paying $400 and while that included tailoring, it is still a hefty price tag. As in all shops, they will try to get you to buy more than you intend to and are a bit pushy, but not overwhelmingly so. All in all, I walked out with an awesome outfit that fit like a glove and would recommend this shop to anyone who needs their clothing fast. Otherwise, buy online and have it altered here to your preference and save a bundle!

The second time I was trying on clothes, I wanted to leave behind what I had in my fitting room just to exchange a blouse in a different size. When I came back to my room with the new blouse, I saw that she locked my room and left a door knob tag! So that was pretty awesome that she locked the door while I made that quick switch. Then while I was in the room (still the second round), I noticed the blazer I brought in was a bit big. I asked her to exchange it a size down, which they didn't have, but Amy got me 2 sizes down and BAM! That's how I found out I am now 2 sizes down. Talk about confidence booster! Finally, since I guess Amy saw that I was trying on so many suits, she asked me, "You know, there are a couple blazers in the clearance section. Do you want me to try to find some for you?" Sold, sold, sold. I've never had anyone in a store go out of their way for me, so I was blown away. A few times throughout the year they'll do sales as well so be sure to keep an eye out on their social media for a heads up. They have three other Lockwood locations - Williamsburg, Greenpoint, and Jackson Heights. Next door from this Astoria location they have a store called Lockwood Paper which has a large greeting card section, and any paper related products you could imagine (think pens, notebooks, wrapping paper, and more). They have cute magnets and pins as well and even carry ornaments here too. Then around the corner is Lockwood Style which has clothing, accessories, and more. I only wish I lived closer, or they had a Sunnyside, Queens Home & Gift location because then I'd be here all the time - although my wallet probably thanks me for that.

They have a huge collection of bridal clothes and had quite a few for the exact color that I was looking for. The woman working the store, happened to be Afghani and didn't understand Hindi (spoke perfect English though, which was great for me!) and was a true sweetheart the entire time I was there. She was really helpful picking out different clothes and quickly picking up styles that I liked/disliked. She was also nice when trying clothes on, showing me different ways that I could wear the clothes. Overall, a really nice woman....which made me feel bad when we didn't buy anything from them.
