HOLY TOLEDO~ I am a lady who loves me some Australian and Canadian designers; this store carries an abundance of both! Backstage sexy striped dress that make men trip, check; Gentle faun for my Canadian girl pride, double check, check. Prices are reasonable for an upscale boutique; nice selection of higher end items and some cheaper brands. They carry the much coveted Prairie Underground if you are feeling green (green in your pocket book and eco to be clear :) ) Oh and they have a nice men's section!! I've bought a pair of Joe's Jeans for my Valentine and yet another sexy backstage dress in case I need to find a back-up Valentine... JK people..... :) They have cute shoes but often sell out; if they do not have your size though they will order them! Tons of beautiful gold jewlery.... You may ask what is the problem? Don't bother spending any money here. I wanted to buy a dress and as I was looking at the dresses not one Hello from the Swedish lady working there. Snob to the tee! I proceeded to look at clothes on a table where she was folding and not one hello. So, I asked her if she greeted her customers and three times I had to repeat the question because she could not understand the word greet. So, I said it in plain words, do you say hello to your customers? Her answer was, I'm too busy. Seriously people do not give up any money to the likes of this person and store! Rudely answered and she needs customer service training! She's old too so maybe you can't teach an old dog new tricks? read more

Every time we're in Santa Cruz, my girlfriend insists on stopping at this whimsical, yet decidedly adult boutique. She's found a lot of compliment-garnering pieces here - things that are unique and well-made but a few steps down the ladder from the price range you'd expect them to command. That's not to say it's a cheap place to shop, but I haven't seen anything above $300, which is pretty moderate, all things considered... The owner/operator has always been very courteous and helpful, and, as a guy, it's as pleasant a spot as there is to hang out while your gf indulges in a little retail therapy. On our most recent visit we learned that they've opened a sister store in SF called Onyx, which carries a much broader selection of menswear. I'll definitely be checking it out. read more

So you could easily miss this little boutique crammed next to the atm's downtown and the theater, but don't, it's truely a beautiful store. You walk in, it's clean, not overly cluttered, has some nice presentations of the clothing and really, it's inviting. The dressing rooms are larger, with plenty of space and mirrors to see if what you chose is perfect. Usually I have nothing but good service there, helping me find the right size, suggestions, cashier out, putting something on hold, all great. It's very pricey though, I don't think I've found anything under 50, but usually starting at 120ish. But the quality is fantastic. Nothing I've had has shredded, fallen apart or torn - it's look practically brand new still. They also have men's clothing and a sale area where you might happen on something. They carry Industry, which is now one of my favorite brands. This is a place I go if I am trying to find something perfect, like a great evening cocktail dress or even, awe, my graduation dress. Hands down the best shopping in Santa Cruz. Local, handmade, and upscale designs make this store stand out among copy-cats and lame boutique look-a-likes. They have 2 more locations in SF and are very accommodating in finding you the right size/style and will bring clothing down from their other locations if you need it. The sales rep was stylish and knew everything about the designers they carried which made the experience feel much more personal. I felt like I had a personal stylist and bought a dress I normally wouldn't have noticed unless she pointed it out. Moderately priced and fashion forward. Definitely my new favorite spot! read more

Every time I'm in SC, this is one of my first stops. They carry beautiful clothing, shoes, and bags. And, it's so nice to go into a boutique and encounter friendly sales people. My only gripe is that some of the stuff is very expensive. A cotton and rayon dress for $135? Really??? Even with the sale, it wasn't worth it. But, there are lots of options and price ranges, so you just have to be willing to sort through the racks. read more

I'm a guy, sure, but I must say I love the women that wear these clothes. Thank the good Lord for Jade, for without her a drab woman upon Pacific Ave too often a sight would be seen! I know the clothes are expensive, but you know what? If you can look good in this L.A. chicky chicky style then go for it. Part of the expense includes the owner's wonderful sense of style and the fashion filtering she does for you. You don't have to browse at this store. You can put a blindfold on, spin around three times, then go grab a couple articles of clothing and you will be an instant hottie. read more

I really like this spot. It's got a good selection, but is not overwhelmingly large, the clothes are well organized by color, and they have some great stuff. I'm actually wearing a sweater shirt with a fox print and flowers from Jade as I type this. Everything I have gotten there over the years has held up, and had been ahead of the curve as car as fashion goes. They have some affordable items as well - I haven't paid over $40 for anything I got there except a Prairie Underground sweater I got there years ago that I wore every day for years before giving it to a friend... I had gotten tired of it. The music is good enough, and they don't perfume the place (I'm sensitive to smells and chemicals, so this is good - I can breathe in there). I hop by (not literally) every time I'm in town - 1 to 2 times each year - and generally find at least one item I walk away with quite happily. I am not a big shopper, but I am a fashionista - my closet is small but well crafted. jade has given me a number of token pieces I adore. read more

Absolutely the very best in design and attitude. Clearly the owner takes pride in providing the entire experience- from the moment you're greeted to the care upon packaging. Pulling from international designers and offering a bouquet accouterments Jade extends beyond the competition in terms of quality. The styles, colors and cuts have suited my tastes for years.. clearly my go to store for gifts. The owner has two more stores in San Francisco- she knows styles and trends (something Santa Cruz has always lacked). Too many designers to list as she rotates through many styles. Been open since 2001 so that should indicate the attention to detail, quality and customer relations. Boutique with flavor and personality this is a store you must visit! read more

I like boutique shops and in fact, many of the clothes I own are found in boutiques but I RARELY (or almost never) shop at boutiques because I do most of my boutique shopping online but I decided to stop in because I noticed that there were sale signs taped all over the storefront advertising "SALE 20% OFF EVERYTHING". A store that had a 20% off everything in it? I had to check it out. The boutique is small and carries familiar lines like Charlotte Ronson, T Bags, Tano handbags and Joe's as well as obscure or other up and coming designers. I ended up getting a cute wrap cardigan (the hardest part was deciding what color) and the salesgirl packaged my cardigan in their own gorgeously-printed silk shopping bag. The jewelry selection is also worth checking out...definitely one of a kind pieces that will get people asking you "Where'd you get that from?" read more

I was in the area for work but could always use a shopping break. I walked into Jade and thought it was adorable -- similar to the boutiques in SF, though not as busy, which is a good thing. I was able to shop in peace and found two items; an alula dress and jeans from blank. Both were on sale. Yay! They also have cute handbags and accessories galore. read more

What a wonderful boutique! Because of its price-range, I consider Jade a special-occasions shop, where I would go to find something new for a very special wedding or event. I made the trip down from Palo Alto to get my graduation dress there. The shop is laid out nicely; it welcomes you in and is perfectly arranged for getting a look at everything they've got. And you're going to want to look at every item in the store because they are all so beautiful and surprising. She carries the kind of funky, pretty, high-end stuff that you can't find in your average department stores or mall-shops. I found the service excellent--not pushy at all. She suggested I try on items I wouldn't have thought would look good on me, was lovely about helping me get zipped up and everything, and gave great advice on which items were most flattering. I never felt like she was trying to make money off me, she just made me feel beautiful in my perfect new dress! All in all, a delightful shop that I'm willing to drive 2 hours to visit. read more

So disgusted. Mom and I went shopping around downtown Santa Cruz, which we always do when I come to visit. Walked in to Jade to browse and the woman who was working there NOT ONCE even said, "Hello." No courtesy welcome or conversation. We stayed there just a couple minutes after I was disgusted and we left. Then proceeded to go directly next door where I bought a beautiful outfit. It was pricey plenty, so if the woman thought we weren't good enough for her and their prices, you were greatly mistaken. Never judge by appearances. On that note, I have to wonder why she didn't say a single word to us. She looked at us (NOBODY else was in there, so we were hard to not notice) and kept about her business. Wondering if she judged us by ethnicity. I had jewelry and a top on that is very distinctive to a particular culture, so could've been that. Doesn't matter. We will NEVER step foot in there again and will be sure to share our experience with our local friends. read more

Though price is less than soothing, this store has fine threads. I like the way they arrange it by color, since every gal knows she had a certain "scheme" in mind.. and they cater to this. The service is relaxed but helpful, no hard sell but also not ambivolent or snob-fest. I come when i'm in town and unfortunately for the bank account, i rarely leave empty-handed. read more

I love this place. The clothing and accessories they stock are always beautiful and well made. The customer service is great. Yes, it is very pricey, but you have to expect that from the sort of brands they stock. And in my opinion, it's worth it. Everything I've bought there has been something I've received tons of compliments on and been able to wear many times. The salesperson that has always helped me when I've gone in is great. I can't remember her name, but she's amazing. She always has great suggestions for me, and she's even gone so far as to go in back and get things out of boxes that have just arrived if she thought there was something that I'd like. Now THAT is customer service. She also just seems like a nice person. I don't feel like she's just trying to get me to buy something. Anyway, if I was rich I would buy everything here, but sadly I can only afford the occasional splurge. read more

My 16 yr old daughter went and bought a dress for her formal and brought it home and it was way too expensive. She took it back for a refund and the store owner refused to refund the money. Super bummed that they would not make an exception for a 16 yr old but lesson learned. Now she has a $270 dollar store credit at a store she can't afford. Very cute shop with great unique peaces but way too overpriced for Santa Cruz. The sale rack always has some good deals and once in a while you will find some good prices on cute items. All in all I have to say it's one of the better shops in down town. read more
