Saints Alive! I yelped this place just looking for a cool place to try. Growing up in Phoenix, I love authentic Mexican food with a passion and that used to be difficult to find in Nebraska, not anymore. Taking the advice of other yelpers, I got a dozen tamales and an order of their salsa, with a bag of chips. The tamales were great by themselves, but covered in this magic salsa they were unbelievable. It took me three days to get through a large container of salsa, and three days to get through a dozen tamales, and I'm ready for more. It looked to me like they have to kinds of salsa to choose from, I speak a little spanish and several of the people before me ordered salsa with tomatillo, which looked to be a little darker and is probably a little hotter, so I'm going to try that next time. Also, I commend this place on their pride in keeping the store clean, it wasn't dirty or unwelcoming at all like some of the mexican grocery stores that I've been in. read more

I was actually looking for a taco shop when this place appeared on Yelp and man am I glad. I have discovered that it is possible to live solely on tamales, chips, and salsa. I also discovered that they sell Tamarindo which is a odd fruit that is not very common. The line was a little bit long but in my opinion that is not a bad thing, they work fast and keep the line moving. The cash only is a little odd in this day of digital everything but that doesn't bother me, there is a Wells Fargo right across the street. read more

Oh. my. goodness. The tamales and salsa are the stuff dreams are made of. Great prices, helpful people, and food to die for. It is now a required stop on every quick trip into the city. I must have tamales. read more

My husband and I were discussing what foods we would miss if we ever left Omaha. Jacobo's salsa topped the list. I have trouble deciding between the red, green or brown salsa so I get a small green, small brown and large red since red is his favorite. The fresh tortillas are to die for. I remember going off the low crab wagon by buying still warm fresh tortillas from Jacobo's and sitting in my car in their tiny parking lot, shoving them in my face like an addict. Second on the "would miss it list" ... Dinker's burgers. We can't ever leave SE Omaha. read more

First time there and i will go back. The different types of salsa were tasty and the Burritos were a hit with the whole family.

Best place to get homemade chips and salsa in town. They have the spicy thinner salsa which is my favorite and also chunky mild salsa which my family loves. Amazing carnitas! Prices are so low for what you get. I just wish this place was closer to me! read more

Talk about authentic, if you don't speak spanish, you may not be able to order. I go when I'm in the area for the mexican bread. Cool place! read more

I was told about this place from a co-worker and absolutely love it. The enchiladas are of beef and cheese and almost melt in your mouth, the burritos have pork rice and beans, and the chili relleno's are also excellent. The prices are fair and the salsa is the best. read more

Jacobo's Grocery - Chili Relleno's...i love all of their food!!! - Grocery Near Me - Omaha, Nebraska

Best Mexican food in the city. This little gem located in South Omaha in 24th and l street has all your favorites. In this Mexican grocery you will see a line going out the door with people waiting to get their famous salsa! I probably go once a week for salsa beans and rice. They have to die for carnitas with the right amount of fat chopped in, fried burritos, tamales, enchiladas just to name a few. A must stop if you are in the mood for Mexican! read more

To be honest its alright, i don't really enjoy the salsa to each their own i guess. But i love love the chips so good ugh!

What an amazing grocery store and cheap deli. Amazing burritos for 1.75 and meats by the pound. Come early they get busy.

I've stood in line for a half hour before just to buy one container of salsa. It's well worth it. Awesome burritos and tamales.

Jacobo's is a great Mexican grocery store. The best salsa in Omaha, chunks of tomato and lots of cilantro. Can't beat the tamales and burritos too. Sometimes the lines are long on the weekend. It is cash only. Also, can pick up plantains, and good canned beans. Inexpensive and GREAT!! read more

I always get chips, salsa, and flautas here. Their flautas are so good, I threw them up once, and I still eat them. Which means something, because my aversion to vomit food is intense. They also sell a lot of Goya products you can't get anywhere else in town which helps when I make empanadas or need actual spices for meats. read more

They were rude as hell to me, always are when my mom & I go in there. They skip over us to get to the other Hispanic ppl. Sure there food & salsa is good but there customer service to white ppl is f'n ridiculous. read more

Be warned that this isn't a typical restaurant. It's a Mexican grocery. That being said, if you go here, you absolutely have to try the salsa. It's incredibly delicious and very fresh. I always get the really spicy kind. The guacamole is pretty good too and that says a lot because I'm pretty picky about guacamole. The staff that work there are always very nice. This place is definitely worth a stop if you're in South Omaha. read more

Great pork, chicharrones, and salsa. Corn chips are great too. Everything is made so fresh, way better than the American market. I don't buy salsa from anywhere else. Food here is authentic and of high quality. read more

Jacobo's is a fantastic place to get chips and salsa or other supplies for making Mexican meals that you can't get other places. Given the demand for their high quality products, Jacobo's could seriously jack up their prices and charge people way more than they do. The fact that they are decent enough not to do this is refreshing. I've had their tamales, both frozen and fresh from the deli, and they are incredible. Bring cash with you, however, as they don't take plastic. read more

Jacobo's is a great little grocery at 24th and L, on the NE corner. We love shopping there. They don't take debit/credit but there is a FNBO ATM there so you can get cash if need be. They are closed on Mondays and close around 6 or 6:30 most over nights. All the people who work here are very friendly and helpful. They have a great selection of Mexican sodas, all about 10 cents cheaper than Bag N Save or wherever you get your Jarritos at. The real winner here though is the deli. You can get a 2 or 3 week supply of freshly made salsa for $2.50 or so. It is absolutely incredible. Best salsa I've ever had. They also have homemade corn chips for about $2.50 a bag as well. They are also incredible (see a pattern developing?). We've also had the carnitas from the deli, always a great treat, especially if you get some corn tortillas and make yourself some pork tacos. The enchiladas are brilliant, only $1.00 each. 2 will satisfy you but 3 will delight you. I've heard the burritos are awesome as well but haven't tried yet. There are a few things I'm not sure what they are that I'd like to try, I need to figure out what they are first. The baked treats from the bakery counter right next to the deli are all good, cookies and pastries both are CHEAP and TASTY! Stop down early to make sure they aren't out of anything, bring cash and you won't be disappointed. The lot is smallish, there is a second lot east of the main lot but we've never had to park there yet. The main lot has been full up quite a few times though. If you see a line just to the right when you walk in, that's the line to the deli. Have one person get in that line and someone else go grab sodas and whatever else you need. read more

They have all the basics in this store and that's great. Downside is that they do not accept debit, credit or checks. There is an ATM machine inside the store - Fantastic. And another downside is that they also do not have a restroom for their customers. I went today and I had my 2 year old daughter with me. She had to use the restroom and I had to leave the store and walk 5 minutes down the the block to a gas station so she can use the restroom. I would suggest they provide a restroom for their customers. After all, this is a family grocery store. read more

Can I say love,,!! The only reason I am only giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because they are cash only and sometimes when I am in the craving for some Salsa I don't have cash,,and its a pain to get some. I wont us their atm's because of the charges. Anywho.. I mostly go on the weekends and the lines are long.. if anyone saw the Seinfeld Soup episode where they stand in long lines waiting for soup its just like that. People mainly go there for their salsa, meat counter. The salsa it the best I personally ever had. I wont by that store jar crap anymore.. not when we have this and its so cheap !! 1.69 for a medium sized container of their regular salsa . Cannot beat it. ! We always get salsa,, their chips and tortillas which are still warm when you get them. I love the green chili tamales too and always buy extra so I can have some for work for the week. Sometimes communication is a little tricky depending on what staff you get,, but we get our order out and its not a big deal all part of it :) One lady ( I believe is the owner) is usually at the register and she is so very kind. She always has a polite word and talks to my young son. We will keep going back ! read more

I grew up in Chicago's Albany Park area and we had lots of family owned ethnic grocery stores and I can say that this takes me right back there. The deli here is just amazing, I will go there sometimes to buy a quart of thier famous homemade salsa and fried corn chips and browse the deli case full of all sorts of delicious items. I have tried to many things to mention but have never been dissapointed. Well worth the trip, we usually stop there for chips and salsa to take with us to the zoo, it is only a few miles from there. read more

Excellent salsa, just make sure to bring cash!

I have been a customer at Jacobos since they started out on 36th and Madison st. I remember when they had the little shop on 24th and B street too. When they opened up at their current location in the old shoe store, They really went all out and did things right. Some of the best tamales in town, great pan dulce, They are great members of the community as well. They support a lot of local student and non profit activities. This is one place that you can really appreciate supporting local, small business. read more

If anything, go to this place for their hot sauce. You'll read this on every review and there is nothing new I can really add to this that isn't already stated below. Get their hot sauce and their carnita, put them in your head and be awesome! Eat up Minions!! read more

First of all, I went to Omaha South, so you better believe I ate Jacobo's at least twice a week. The food here is so delicious I am drooling thinking about it. I always get at least a dozen enchiladas, salsa, chips, and pan-the Mexican bread/cookies when I go. I grew up eating here, my family knows Carlos Jacobo and his family. They are wonderful people. Doesn't get much fresher or more tasty then Jacobo's. I tell everyone if they want REAL Mexican food to come here. The sprinkle cookies are a must. I've been eating them since I was a little girl. Defintely a south Omaha staple and a MUST on everyone's "to try" list!! And their prices are cheap! I believe enchiladas are 1.25 each. I've never had anything bad from Jacobo's! read more

My coworkers lol told me to ask for and look for Jah-Ko-Bows.. learned my lesson lol.. the salsa and chips are great :)

Chips and salsa!! Brought some back from Omaha to Tampa. We ate the entire lg container for dinner!!

Best Salsa EVERRR!!! We've also had several other things from the counter and it was all good, especially the burritos. You'll compare every salsa to this after you have it! The employees are very nice too. read more

I heard about this amazing salsa, so i had to try it. i went down and found a little grocery store right next to South High. The deli counter in the back of the store is the best. I have had the carnitas, salsa, salsa verde, beans and rice, tamales, and sweets. This is the best mexican food I have ever had. I now drive down weekly for the salsa and salsa verde, which they were out of last trip. I was very sad, but they gave me another tomatillo salsa that tasted more of vinager and adobe sauce, but it was still great as a condiment. Everything is also super cheap. read more

I'll simply echo the other reviews. This is a deli in the back of a grocery store - takeout only with no seating. Everyone there speaks English well. Yes, it is as good as people say. The salsa is amazing. Just get the large - it will get eaten. You can't go wrong with anything else. And it's cheap. I'll feed 8 people for $30, and they'll comment that I bought too much. BRING CASH! No checks or credit cards. And while you're down there, take a walk up and down 24th street. One of the best neighborhoods in town. read more

I was recently there and saw a woman giving the cashier or sometimes the tall lady owner present, such a hard time about not accepting cards and on and on, I would have thrown her out or better that, call the cops, tell her go some place else and leave all the good stuff for us. ATM on site, bank across the street, should I go on. Service good. Food good. Inexpensive, a lot of deli items and the like for under $ 20.00. read more

A south Omaha staple!! If you are in town this is a must visit place, cash only though which is a downer but other than that you won't be disappointed by the variety of stuff they have! Their enchiladas and chips w/ salsa are a must try! read more

This is a simple place that uses the fresh ingredients to create beyond good products. It's like dining at someone's abuela's house. Good price, only if you have to- go on the weekend. The line is usually out the door. We always go on Thursday for all of our weekend needs. read more

Seriously yummy food for ridiculously low prices! I just had a delicious filling lunch for like$3! The people there were all very nice and helpful! read more

OMG. The absolute best salsa I have ever had in my life! And I lived pretty close to the border in Arizona for 6 years. Absolutely fabulous. As everyone else says: bring cash!! read more

Is it possible to eat a bag full of chips in one day? With these chips, yes, it is possible. The last time my husband was out of town he wondered what happened to the chips and salsa and I think I finished it off the 2nd day he was gone. They are seriously the best tortilla chips...so thin, light, crispy, and yes I will say it....corny? The produce like limes and tomatoes are super fresh and good quality too. Best salsa I've had and costs about 2 bucks! read more

Amazing. Cash only little grocery store in South O. Best salsa and corn chips around. I'm also a huge fan of the tamales and rice. Pretty low cost too. read more

Won't be able to add much other haven't already said. Been coming here for chips and salsa (and carnitas, and tamarind drinks, and pollo rostizado, and bulk chiles, and tortillas, and crema and EVERYTHING) at least every other week for the last several years. The wait in line is worth it and the service is friendly. And hands-down, the best salsa you've ever had (and only $3.25 for about a quart of the stuff). read more

Love their fresh red salsa and fresh tortilla chips!! We always come back for more and anyone that we have shared them with has really enjoyed them, too! read more
