Everything amazing you've heard about this place is true. Besides having all your basic groceries (including beer), Jacobo's has quite an array of tropical produce plus an always-busy meat/bakery counter, which features fresh cuts of your Mexican staples, sweet treats, a hot case with ready-to-eat fare and, of course, their famous chips and salsa. The prices are super reasonable! A bag of house-made tortilla chips (12 oz.) are only $2.39 a bag. Add in a large, 32 oz. container of their house-made salsa for either $3.25 (red) or $6.50 (green). That's a helluva deal for something so delicious. No wonder this place is always busy and so many people drive here from all over town. Planning a party? No problem. I needed chips and salsa for a couple hundred people. So I swung by a day early to see if I needed to place an order in advance. They simply said no and told me to "come back tomorrow." When I did come back, they remembered me and promptly filled my order. Success! Oh, and they also take your groceries out to your car if you need a little help -- you don't get that kind of service very often anymore. Dearly Beloved, we are gathered here today to pay our last respects to Tostitos; they had a good run. May they rest in peace. Simply put, this place is love at first whiff. You walk in the door and immediately start to salivate from the scent of cumin, cilantro, peppers, and tortillas lingering in the air. Which is great and also awful since you probably will be standing in line for 20 minutes at the deli. I go to Jacobo's probably 2x a month to replenish and have yet to be disappointed - my best tip is to try going on a weeknight instead of the weekend and dodge some of the worst lines. I've tried a lot of their meat and sides, and they are all awesome... but they stop just short of their salsa. Their regular red salsa is addictive, amazing, and dirt cheap to boot and perfect with a bag of their homemade chips. Bottom line? Go here, and go here immediately, but say goodbye to your tolerance for chips or salsa from anywhere else. read more

I had heard about a place in South Omaha that sold salsa that was in high demand from some coworkers. Unfortunately, they had not yet been and didn't know the exact place. Luckily, my wife has a FB friend from Omaha who mentioned Jacobo's and my wife asked if I knew about it. Once I read the reviews on Yelp, I knew it had to be the place about which my coworkers spoke and I knew we had to go. I was prepared for a long long line upon entering at around 10:30 on a Saturday but it was only about 8 or so deep when we arrived. To be honest, I didn't even know for what I was waiting in line! I saw the line, knew it meant something was good at the end, and assumed it was salsa. What I found when it was my turn to order was a literal smorgasbord of Mexican food goodness. Not only salsa but tons of hot foods, like carnitas, roasted chicken, burritos, tamales, and other things that I have yet to, but plan to, identify. We ordered a medium salsa ($1.90), six chicken flautas ($1.50 each), 2 pork tamales ($1.25 each), a half pound of carnitas ($4.99/lb.). The flautas were a huge hit with my wife and boys. They barely made it out of South Omaha. The tamale was so good, a perfect combo of meat and masa. I like my tamales with a thick masa and this fit the bill but still remained moist and flavored well from the pork. The carnitas were stellar. Sometimes when I get carnitas at a restaurant, it comes out in giant chunks and can get a bit dry. These are shredded smaller and were so good. The kids and I made short work of the half pound. The salsa was very good, not amazing, but definitely better than store bought and for the price, a fantastic deal. Woohoo! That's the rating this place gets from me and also the expression I said to myself when I walked into this little gem. What was life like before I knew of Jocobos? I don't even want to think about it... I was introduced to their salsa one evening by a friend and from that time on I had to have more. I bought their delicious and super affordable salsa the next day and took it camping and it was gone within an hour. Now, it's a staple in my fridge. This is my favorite salsa ever. I have been known to drink the end of my bowl. They accept cash only. I wish I lived closer so I could have a never ending stock of their delicious red salsa. Honestly, how did I live in Omaha for so long and not know about this place. I admit, I had been in just to browse, maybe pick up a avacado or some cilantro, but I had not have the deli food. I find myself trying to figure if I'm close enough to south 'O' to make it to Jacobo's in 10 minutes or less. If the answer is yes, which isn't often enough, I make it a point to go there for the following.... 1 - Red Salsa - simply the best I've ever had... anywhere. 2 - Tortilla chips - fresh, delicious 3 - Tamales - warm, fresh 4 - Carnitas - Delicious, seasoned just right 5 - Corn Tortillas - usually so fresh that they're still warm 6 - Queso Fresco - several different brands to choose from, they've all been good. If you are close enough, make it a point to go there, and bring cash (no checks or credit cards). No eating area, so it's all 'to go'. I think they're closed on Mondays. read more

What keeps me coming back here? The salsa. I -need- the salsa. I had been here a time or two before but it was always to late and everything was gone from the deli. This time, I made sure to get there at the butt crack of dawn and stand in line with all the other people who wanted some of the awesome goodness of Jacobo's. Having spent a good part of my childhood in Mexico City and a dozen years of my adult life in SoCal - I have a great appreciation for good Mexican Food. Jacobo's has it ! The salsa is amazing!!! Best in town, perhaps the best I've ever had to date. Chips are great as well - far better than anything else in town and far cheaper. They have great burritos - I only wish they made them every day of the week instead of just on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. This little grocery in the heart of South Omaha is fantastic! We rarely get to see the Latino part of Omaha, so this was quite a culture shock but in a good way! Jacobo's carries all sorts of great products sourced from Mexico and the US. All sorts of Mexican drinks, snacks, and fresh produce is here. But the winner is the full service Deli that was bustling in the back.... It was staffed with a multitude of staff, making all kinds of fresh hot and cold items, and two friendly ladies at the counter helped us out and they were bilingual enough to be helpful. We picked up some delicious pork tamales, enchiladas, and the much talked about salsa. I have to say it is all quite tasty and very filling. And the deli items are much worth their (cheap) price. Guys - This is THE place to get your hot & fresh tamales. Seriously - my mouth is watering just thinking about it. We like to take turns here in the office and pick up a dozen of tamales on the way to work. And once you're there, you just have to buy some of that famous chips and salsa. The family loves the carnitas on Sundays. We like to chop them up nice and fine - fry with a bit (more haha) oil, and enjoy some of the best tacos ever. They sell fresh bread. Rice & beans. Jacobo's is THE place to go for anything related to deli-style Mexican food. Their corn tortillas are the best in Omaha by far, and their tortilla chips, salsa, refried beans, and prepared mexican-style rice are available in large containers that I usually sample out of when I get back into the car. A lot of their staff are not well-versed in english, but they are very helpful...just point to stuff. My mom makes homemade tamales, and they sell all the necessary ingredients. They also make their own tamales, and they're not too bad, but I like mom's better. They also sell lots of products that are usually only avaliable in Mexico, as well as other groceries. read more

I always get chips, salsa, and flautas here. Their flautas are so good, I threw them up once, and I still eat them. Which means something, because my aversion to vomit food is intense. They also sell a lot of Goya products you can't get anywhere else in town which helps when I make empanadas or need actual spices for meats. read more

Workers very friendly. Tortillas so fresh the packages were still warm. Tortilla chips were an 11 on a scale of 1-10, as was the salsa. Definitely a great grocery store to go to if you are like me. I get my food in three different states. We grow our own pork, beef, eggs, and veg here in Missouri, and go up to Omaha (Jacabo's) and Iowa (Mulholland's) and down to KCMO (Constintino's) for the rest. I cannot believe I havent written about my favorite Mexican food in Omaha! I cannot say enough about their amazing salsa, their delicious burritos and enchiladas and the fresh tortilla chips. There's also a great variety of zesty pre-packaged chips that my kids love, with jalapeño and chile flavors. If you like carne, their pork is to die for. i was only disappointed because many of the reviews here made it sound like there is also an area to order food that you can eat in the store, which isn't the case.
