I just had the most bizzare experience with Jacob and Jacob's Tailoring. I live in the neighborhood and had been putting off finding a good tailor close by for awhile. I recently purchased a few pairs of designer jeans and being 5'4" needed to have them altered. Altering denim is always nerve racking as I have had the experience of the alteration not turning out in the the past. This morning I took one pair of jeans to Jacob's to see how his workmanship was in addition to two dresses that needed minor repairs. At first he quoted me Monday and I told him I wasn't in a rush. Then he told me they would be ready at 3:00 the same afternoon. I arrived at 4:00 and brought two more pairs of brand new tags on denim with me to be altered if I liked the first alteration. Jacob had me try on the altered jeans and I was pleased with how they look so I asked him if he would like to help me two more pair. He happily said yes and I tried on the first pair and everything seemed to going fine. He was chatting and telling me the jeans looked nice, ect. I tried them with heels first and then flat shoes to make sure they would look nice with both types of shoes PER HIS SUGGESTION. i brought out the second pair and since they are black he mentioned that I wouldn't need the original hem. (In the back of my mind, I was going to ask for original hem anyway). I tried them on and he choose the lenght. I brought a different heel with me that I knew I would wear with the jeans and asked if I could try them on. Once I had the shoes on, I thought I might need the jeans a bit longer. I asked him for his expert opinion and he walked away asking me to find the length I perferred. At this moment, I didn't realize anything was wrong so when I asked him his opinion on the the length I cuffed he told me it wasn't worth his time for $10. The alteration was too cheap for him to look at where I cuffed it. The WHOLE POINT of going to a tailor is for them to help you custom fit a garment to your specificiations. At this point I was taken aback - If Jacob doesn't want to be my tailor for $10 then he's not going to be my tailor for $20 as well. I changed and gathered my belongings and paid him $30 for the alterations I brought in this morning. I told him I was sorry he didn't want my business and he said he didn't need my business as he has run his shop for 13 years. "He looks like a Costco man, but does expensive tailoring" his words and he said I would give him problems. Not sure how I was going to give him problems since I was willing to pay him $70 today for all of my alterations and most likely would have become a repeat customer. He is a TAILOR, tailors provide a SERVICE. I was never rude to him and became very rude to me. I have previously worked in high end retail and would never think about treating a client as rudely as he treated me. Truly Bizarre experience. read more
