A few years back, I brought in a beautiful pair of pants that were slightly too long. He had me try on the pants there so he could pin the bottoms of the legs and prepare them for alterations. When I picked them up, they were too short and I stopped wearing them altogether. The alteration was also not cheap. I don't remember what it was but all that he altered was the length of the pants and I seem to remember I paid something like $30 or $40. I should have learned how to sew years ago! I have taken in items for very small repairs basic sewing no measurements no cuts no alterations just small repairs but he always charge $15-$20 for one item. There are no written prices he just makes it up and always add a couple of bucks by the time he writes the ticket. It makes me uncomfortable because I feel he charges as much as he can get away with and definitely overcharges. Its not fair so be warned he will charge what he thinks you will pay. Thats my experience. I dont think its right not to display your prices. I really wonder about that. Other reviews say he charged only $5 for simple stitching which is what I expected but I was charged twice that. Maybe charges are based on who you are which is an unfair business practice to charge different people different prices. Giving a discount is one thing but charging two people different prices for the same work is not kosher. If you have to go there be sure to ask for a price list if they cannot provide one push back for a lower price especially if the price seems arbitrary and is high for a simple repair. You feel like a chump. Avoid because you will not be charged fairly. read more

I've used Martini for a variety of services and have always been happy with the outcome. The first time I went there, it was to get some pants hemmed. Yes, this isn't a particularly challenging job if you have modest sewing skills but that is not me. Martini hemmed up the first pair I dropped off exactly as requested, so I brought in a few more. Again, direction was followed clearly and I got the same results. Might sound simple, but getting repeat quality and consistency is not as common as you think at other places. Since then, I've also dropped off items for dry clean and minor repairs. On the dry cleaning side, nothing particularly interesting to call out here, other than the clothes came back fresh and clean as expected. On the minor repair side, I was really pleased with a fix they made to a ribbed cuff on a jacket. There would have been a time where I would have let that kind of wear run its course and then ultimately replaced the jacket. However, I'm glad I didn't take that course with this one; Martini was able to get the cuff looking as good as new and for a very small sum. Other than that, prices are reasonable and service has always been friendly and quick. There are other dry cleaners a tad closer to me, but Martini is worth the extra distance. read more

I picked up my SFFD uniform last week. it had a small hole in it when I put it on. I let it go as I thought maybe I snagged it on something before dry cleaning. I picked up my second uniform this week. when I put it on it had six small holes in it, it wasn't clean and it had two seems down one leg. I called him about it. he said bring it in. when I brought it in he said it could not have happened here. they are brand new uniforms. I've only ever had them dry cleaned at this location. he offered nothing to help and still charged me for the uniform I picked up. don't get ur dry cleaning done here. read more

Fast, efficient, friendly and affordable. Super nice family run business that has been here for YEARS. I have had minor modifcations done here (shirts taken in etc.) and had my dry cleaning done here every week for at least 10 years. This is a very well run and professional outfit. Update: I don't live in the city anymore but I still come here for my alterations. Price, service, timing, and quality of work is why I go out of my way to come here. I had a lined trench coat, costed $40 to shorten the sleeve and lining, and move the sleeve loop. I was only in San Francisco for a couple days and they had it ready the day I went back home. Otherwise it usually takes five days, which is still faster than most places. I like this location because I have tried at least six different alterations places in the city and outside the city. Other places tend to be slower, more expensive with the same quality, sometimes don't have the job ready by the date they give, or sometimes the people who work there are just rude in general. I work in the hospitality/tourism industry so it's really important to me that if I spend a lot of money somewhere the employees are nice. Besides the trench coat I have had other winter coats and fall/winter layering done here. Other places charge 5-15$ more for the same exact job and sometimes take over a week. I definitely recommend! I have had some bad experiences with alterations in San Francisco but Martini Cleaners definitely has better service and is in a convenient location near Alamo Square. Usually orders are finished in less than a week, maybe five days and they have more flexible hours. They also gave me a price estimate on the phone, most places will tell customers to come in person for a price. Prices always vary, but I have had tailors ask me to come in person for hemming jeans or simple items. This place definitely saved me a lot of time and money, usually $11-$18 per item. They also finish their items on time and the results are great (button down shirts, sweaters). The business is also run by very nice people and the work is very efficient. read more

They have a small changing room inside, so you are able to try on your clothes, and explain exactly what you want done. I also dropped off a couple pairs of pants, and they were ready the next day. Love the business. Did a few alterations plus plenty of dry-cleaning here, and they definitely get the job done right (at an affordable price too, I might add). For going above and beyond and fixing a few nicks on my jacket for free, they earn the 5th star (plus a nice tip, of course). Dennis does a great job, and the pricing is very reasonable. My girlfriend recently started using him for dress alterations (more nerve-wracking than getting my pants hemmed) - but she's been very happy with the work and appreciates Dennis's guidance on what alterations would look best. As an alterations place - it's ok. As a dry cleaners - it's atrocious. I would get shirts back with the same stains I dropped them off with. Stains I point out and other issues were totally disregarded. Collars would still have brown streaks inside even after I specify that I need them taken out. They also tag your shirts with marker to know which ones are yours when they mass wash them. I gave them 4 tries and was thoroughly disappointed every time. Wouldn't recommend to a friend or even to someone I don't like tbh. read more

For repairs--awesome. Three other places had told me they couldn't repair my fur jacket, but the guy at Martini took the job, and did it for a great price (they forgot to sew up part of the jacket and I had to come back, but no big deal). Their dry cleaning seemed to be good quality too, but the price is outrageous ($6 for a shirt). read more

Not all cleaners do alterations, anymore. The cleaners that do alterations, can't always get them right. Some of them can't even clean clothes properly! Martini's serves you up nicely with both. Some people have special needs with their clothing. Special body types require special alterations. Short people, tall people, High waist, short waist, long arms, short arms, etc. I am one of those "special needs" people. The crotch on my pants always needs to be expanded. Button flys won't button, zipper flys look like a bag of roasted chestnuts from the Dicken's Faire, drawstring pants look like a bag that captured a boa constrictor, and there is no velcro fly strong enough. Lucky for me, the staff here will be upfront about their abilities. For my needs in particular, it seems to be too much major surgery to guarantee my satisfaction. That is fine with me. They still make my clothes spotless and crisp after I drop them off. Last week while I was here, I noticed several All-Star Baseball uniforms being prepared for the spotlight. They were hanging right there with everyone else's clothing. That let me know that my clothes are in good hands. Here's the breakdown: 1 star for honesty.....if they can't do it, they won't try. 1 star for ability.....these are the cleanest clothes I own. 1 star for quality.....Major League quality. 1 star for integrity.....if they tell you it will be done, it will. 1 star for fexibility.....long hours and credit accepted ($20.00 minimum) I just wish the alteration process for me wasn't so difficult. I don't want anything near my crotch reminding me of a skin graft.....and I need my pockets where they are to hold my wallet. OK, I usually take my very expensive and fancy down comforter and all my Armani to some far off place in Pac Heights but when I decided to get real and just go local, I took a chance on Martini Cleaners. They are AMAZING! They have done the following without even blinking an eye: 1. gently dry cleaned my down comforter after my lovely cat puked all over it - and I mean ALL over it. 2. gently dry cleaned my down comforter after my lovely cat bled all over it (before her surgery at SF Vet Specialists!) 3. Repaired a VERY expensive BCBG sweater that had a rip in it 4. Cleaned blood out of my favorite Free People sweater after it got rained on, covered in mud and contaminated in blood and vomit the night I tried to save someone's life in Buena Vista Park (he died, sadly, despite my best CPR efforts) They are also eco-friendly and recycle all of the hangers they give you that you don't want.
