First and foremost, I wish I read Yelp reviews prior to ordering from this florist. I called in early AM to order flowers to be delivered to a friend who just had a baby. I gave them the room # as well. Later in the afternoon, they called me back saying that they didn't have anyone in the room by that name. I gave them their maiden last name but they still couldn't figure out which room (after I even gave them the room #). I called my friend to see if they received the flower (around 7PM) and they told me they didn't. Jacob Maarse florist didn't even deliver my flowers, nor did they even call me to inform me that it wasn't delivered. Instead, they delivered it the next AM. My recommendation is to only order flowers from this store if A) you don't care about service, and B) you don't care that your flowers will be delivered late. Stay away from here. My mom picked a ready-made arrangement off one of the tables and a staff member, Heidi, was nice enough to switch out some of the flowers for fresher ones. As a florist, there designs are gorgeous and the staff is talented. Clearly, there focus is on there floral designs. The store is a complete train wreck. The floors are filthy, there were left over Xmas trees laying on the ground, pillows on the ground, empty displays. I spent 15 minutes looking around, and was never approached by anyone in the store. I counted at least 8 people working. As I shopped, I picked stuff off the floor, put vases away, organized displays a bit. Three identical frames had 3 different prices. I bet there full prized Xmas stuff is still on display in June. For "designers" who should be focused on how things look and are visually presented, they should be ashamed of this store. I dropped by for mother's day and everything started off great. A very kind gentlemen took me to a back room to customize a bouquet to fit my budget. When I got to the register to pay, that's when things went off the rails. I was a little surprised that the bill was higher than my budget and when I inquired, the employee who rang me up said it was due to a "labor fee". I asked him where the labor fee is disclosed (meaning anywhere in the store) and he informed me that it is a line item on my receipt. The line item on my receipt states that there was a $20 "delivery fee", which doesn't make any sense since I was in the store. I paid, but when he asked me if everything was "all good", I couldn't help but smile back and respond that that was likely the last time he would see me again. He shrugged his shoulders (not in a mean way, more like a not much I can do about it way). I sincerely wished him a happy Mother's Day as I walked out. At the end of the day, I paid more than $25 over my budget. My disappointment is really not about the money. They were busy and perhaps they didn't want to reprocess the charge. In any event, I really do think that if there is a $20 labor fee, they should be a little more up front about it. read more

I just read the reviews of Jacob Maarse. They are terrible and I agree with them. What happened to the old place where the customers were plenty and mingling throughout the store. When customers mattered and creativeness was abundant throughout the store. You go now to the store and you see the same stuff two months later. Mr Maarse Sr was always changing the merchandise the store and the arrangements looked different each time. Now you go and there and no one is hardly in the store and good luck finding someone to help you. In the early years there were four or five people at the counter because so many people were shopping. The store had these older ladies (I was young then) that had style and grace. There taste was on par as was the florists or Jacob Maarse. But most importantly they took the time with you and were polite. Now you deal with a florist who also answers the phone named Maria. She talks as if you should be lucky to be talking to you. If her manner is similar to her design taste YIKES!!! What is Hank Maarse thinking by hiring her. Actually what is he thinking hiring Marina the general manager who I complained to and did not even care I was complaining or even concerned that I was not happy with how Maria conducted herself. I can get flowers at Safeway that has the same design creativity as Jacob Maarse. YES that's how bad they are. I ordered two premium orchid arrangements the evening before I needed to pick them up in the morning. Not only were they ready earlier than I requested, they were GORGEOUS! Everyone I spoke to was courteous and professional, and when I arrived to pick them up I was invited to park inside the building. I noticed that everyone working to unload and arrange the flowers was wearing a mask and gloves. I only waited a minute before the arrangements were brought to my car by a a woman wearing a mask and gloves who helped secure them in my car for the ride to south Orange County. My Aunt was delighted with the beauty of the orchids and the unique arrangements, and agreed that flowers from Jacob Maarse are truly unique. My dad and I have a tradition to send each other flowers for birthdays and this past week he ordered online a bouquet for Saturday delivery. He buys it online and from Europe and unfortunately there is no option to choose which flower shop to buy from. Little did he know, or did I know, that Jacob Maarse Flowers would ruin this tradition of ours by delivering the most pathetic bouquet that I've ever received. The provided delivery address included my suite # as well as my cell #, but the delivery never cared to announce that he/she would deliver, or even to ask where to drop it off, which suite #, if they indeed missed that information. When I picked them up from the leasing office, a couple of hours later, I already noticed that the flowers were looking as if they were left outside in the heat for some time. But the leasing staff said that they kept them in their office where it was pleasant 70 some degrees. That tells me that the flowers were already brought in in a poor shape. Today, only 48 hrs later and half of the bouquet is in trash. Thanks guys for ruining this tradition. I have no heart to tell my dad that he threw away his money and me, his birthday gift. But I did email to the flower shop, to let them know what a sad experience it was. Not asking for anything, but I think it is unfair that they think they can get away with just anything. read more

ALL flowers were very wilted. ** I wish I didn't have to write this because I've always loved JM flowers and have sent them to friends/family over the years, but perhaps their quality is going down. I'm giving two stars versus one star because I received these on Valentine's Day and it's one of the busiest days of the year and though the flowers weren't nice, the arrangement was. But I do believe that if you are going to charge top prices, then you should be prepared to deliver on your promises and carry enough quality flowers to justify your price. I was happily greeted with flowers at work this morning and the flowers were beautiful! I put them on my bookshelf so I could adore them from across the room. A little later my hubby asked for a picture. I texted him a photo and he asked that I count the flowers because he only saw 6. I looked it over to see if there were any roses in the back that I didn't see but yes, there were only 6. The arrangement that was purchased was for 9 stems of roses. Looking closer, all the roses were wilted away at the edges as if they were a few days old. My hubby contacted JM and the person he spoke to wasn't apologetic nor nice about the situation. He said they took away 3 flowers because the delivery was further than they originally thought. What?! Regarding the wilted flowers, he said the arrangement was perfect when it went out in the morning. Take a look at the photos, I don't think flowers wilt that much in a couple of hours. My husband bought some orchids for my bday here. I was truly disappointed as 20% of the flowers were wilted. I asked him to take it back as it was not worth $140 and he came back with another arrangement that made me furious! This time the arreangement was 1 single orchid that usually costs $50 at their store. My husband told me that he had complained to them but they would not budge and was in haste to leave. My opinion is that if you are going to guarantee satisfaction for your flowers and have this written on their card envelopes, then you stand behind it. I used to love this place and have give recommendations to others as well, but I think I will have to do some retractions now. What happened was I ordered for an arrangement a week before delivery date. Arrangement came filled with Sun flowers some are wilted, roses with wilted/bruised edges, some of these roses are already in full bloom peak as well, the water in the vase is dirty brown. Hmmm am I getting a leftover flower/arrangement? Very disappointed to get Sun flowers and 'supermarket' quality roses. WTF Jacob Maarse? So with my disappointment I decided to write to them, so far no reply. Oh btw, there is only one email, that is sales, no customer service, or names. I wonder if they think that one or two people are just expendable. I will write to them again and have this updated. Update: After (2)emails, I received a voicemail from them saying that they will replace the arrangement and will make it right this time. They apologized for 'maybe' having a bad shipment of flowers. Came here to shop a bit and saw their flower arrangements... kinda pricey and some of the arrangements didn't look so pretty. I know we could decide your own design... I just didn't find the centerpieces they made appealing. I felt like I could make it for less. I know as a bride, you can't do it... but eh. I felt like I could. I saw the prices for each centerpiece and they were kinda pricey compared to the other florists I've gotten quotes from. The store is huge and very cool stuff in it. It's fancy and that's what made it so attractive. They have a bunch of cool furniture stuff to get too... overpriced but pretty. My friend bought something from the store and returned it (because his partner didn't like it) and they were great about the return. So that's good. This is the only florist I use after several bad experiences with others. The arrangements alway are a big hit when they arrive at my wife's office. I always get props from her coworkers. They are abit on the pricey side but I only buy flowers three times a year (Valentines, anniversary, & birtday). Honestly its worth the money to keep peace at home.
