Large bar area, large dining room area - old building I'd love to know the history of! Unfortunately for us, we were seated against a wall and could feel the freezing draft. It was clearly a local place to go, but we didn't feel excluded. Our waitress, Elizabeth, was funny and personable and excellent! Husband had wings (he said they were good,) we both had burgers - they know how to cook a burger! He got ranch fries (potato wedges basically) and I had onion rings (holy smokes I got a huge pile of them!) A month ago my friend and I went to have dinner while my husband, who has a different last name, attended a meeting. Our server was rude, interrupted our conversations, and was just overall obnoxious. This part week he once again attended a meeting and the same obnoxious waitress actually pushed him aside so she could "do her job!!" Seriously!! I will never step foot in that restaurant again. The waitresses dress like slobs, there is no elegance and definitely no class like there used to be. The monthly men's meeting could produce a fortune in tips if the waitresses would be kinder but that's all over with now. I wish you nothing but defeat!! We decided to celebrate a birthday at Jackson's, but unfortunately, the experience was a huge disappointment. Our waitress seemed to be just going through the motions -- not rude, but completely disengaged. She came over to ask how our meal was before we had even taken a bite, and later when I told her it was terrible, she just walked past without acknowledging it. The food was just as disappointing. The salmon was dry and missing the maple glaze entirely, and the prime rib was one of the toughest, most flavorless cuts I've ever had (see video). I literally couldn't cut it easily, and when I finally managed a bite, it was so chewy my jaw hurt. Neither of us ate much of our meals, and when the plates were cleared -- still mostly full -- no one asked why. I decided to try Jackson's Old Chatham House after seeing the high reviews, but that was a mistake. With that being said, I started off with the clam chowder and it was actually pretty good. To explain, the soup was creamy with good flavor and tasted fresh. Sadly, things took a turn for the worse after that. To put into context, I ordered the broiled seafood platter and it was not good at all. First off, the lobster tail was the worst lobster tail I've ever had. It was incredibly small and tasted like it had been left out for a week. Likewise, the fish was horrendous. To enumerate, the fish was hard, dry, and tasted like it came from a school cafeteria. It was impressive how bad it was. On the other hand, the clams, scallops, and shrimp were decent. They were cooked properly, but didn't have much flavor. All together, it was disappointing. The restaurant was low light rustic cabin feel with upscale touches. There is a bar area and several rooms for dinning. Outdoor lighted patio seating is available. My brother and sister in law are frequent dinners here and always rave about it but my hubby and I hadn't been while we were in town. We were able to make a Friday reservation for 7pm with a 45 min notice. The restaurant was fairly busy when we arrived and they sat our other half before we arrived. They already had their drinks and an app as we arrived only a few minutes later. There was also fresh warm rolls and butter for the table. Local brews from Chatham brewery are available. We started with a combo platter which had 4 stuffed mushrooms, 3 stuffed clams, 3 mozzarella sticks, 3 wings with a side of carrots with a blue cheese/ranch dressing. Personally I've always stayed away from stinky moldy blue cheese :) but my sister in law insisted I try and since it was mixed with ranch, and it wasn't terrible. I might consider it there again. Our food was timely and hot when served. My husband had osa bucco which came with mashed taters, fresh broccoli, young fresh carrots. They were al dente and not mushy. My 12 oz prime rib was mid rare as requested and I had a side of horseradish sauce and rattler sauce. The rattler sauce is sour cream, horseradish, Worcestershire type but thinner consistency than sour cream. It was very tasty . My sides were baked potato and the same carrots and broccoli. The seafood pasta looked delicious and had plenty of scalloped, tail on shrimp and whitefish. My brother had a nice steak with potato and veggies. We ordered blueberry cobbler cheesecake and 5 layer chocolate cake for dessert. The blueberry cobbler cheesecake was good portions and not too sweet or too heavy with a touch of lemon on top. There was a pitcher of water on the table so we didn't need refills. Our waitress checked on us as well and Joe the food runner who recommended the sauces for my prime rib. Overall I can see why they are so popular. I would definitely recommend this as a more upscale dinning option in the area. There were tables of 2, 4 and larger tables for bigger groups. It looked like there was a side room that could be closed for parties. I did see the bldg is for sale so I hope the restaurant stays open for when we return. There is a B&B next door. The only negative thing I could say is there were small spaces on the wood table between slats which leaked condensation from our drinks in my lap which if you have a napkin in your lap, it's not a big deal. This one is probably going to need a second visit. We made reservations for our party of 8 and we were in a little bit of a side room which was nice as we were a little isolated from the noise in the rest of the restaurant. The food was really good, all of the guys got the prime rib and it was very nicely seasoned. The down side was we were there for 2.5 hours, and not because we were being leisurely about our ordering. Each time the waitress came we ordered, first drinks, then apps and entrees at the same time and we finally got our second round of drinks during our entree. This just all seemed to take forever. Another note -- they apparently don't split checks. We will definitely give this place another try with the hope that the service is a bit swifter. read more

Take a pass on this one. Looks nice, rustic, charming. Great menu. We never complian, Never send anything back but we ordered medium rare prime rib & it came out medium well. Its not a cheap plate so we did send it back. The waitress came back with it cut open saying it IS NOT over cooked showing us a quarter sized pinkish spot in the middle of the 20oz cut. I said I've been cooking for 30 years professionally myself...its Not medium rare, its way overcooked. She took it back & my partner said "oh jeeze, now thier gonna give me a raw one". & of course the cook brought out a black & blue raw as you can get piece. Spiteful, cocky, unprofessional. The guy overcooked it & then got mad about it. Who needs that? We said just cancel it. Totally disappointed & we we were so happy to drive almost and hour to go there. Also we waited an 1.5 hrs for that bs! 2 dinky rolls, no salad & only side option was baked potato so yeah, go somewhere else because they are busy enough not to care . Herein lies a tale of two reviews.....my fiancée and I were staying across the street at the local VRBO, so we visited twice....day one, Friday afternoon.....only a few tables were seated, and yet we spent 15 mins waiting for even a glass of water despite a server walking past us and making eye contact MULTIPLE times. Took my fiancée having to ask for service to get someone to take our order. Food was OK, wings OK, potato skins OK. The vibe is nice, and fits the area. One star for visit one Visit two, Saturday afternoon, complete 180. Seated, immediate service from a pleasant, smiling young lady. She recommended the lobster bisque and it was fantastic. Potato skins were great as were the wings. Service and food get a 4.5 star rating in day two. Every place has an off day, and I suspect Friday was theirs. Would try again. read more

The place felt very comfortable in its quaint style and rustic appeal. I loved the steamed clams with vegetables. The lemon cake was also really good. The service was good until it was time for our check and then it took a long time to get attention which was a bit frustrating. The flowers outside were beautiful and it made dining there special. It was more like Very Good - 4.5 stars. We sat outside - traffic was non-existent around noon on a late-July Sunday and the town center is ridiculously charming. We later had a drink at the bar inside - it has that quaint tavern thing going on. The service was excellent, indoors and out. The food was good - the fish & chips were good while my wife loved her veggie burger and that doesn't happen often. All the veggies were fresh and crisp. The specialty seems to be the prime rib and I'll try that next time. We'd go back in a heartbeat for the beautiful location, outdoor seating, charming service and solid menu. read more

BEWARE! Don't ever use them for a meeting or gathering. They don't tell you about booking fees or room fees, even when asked to confirm the final price per person when being seated! They quoted $35 per person including tax and tip for the LUNCH buffet (no alcohol included) and then the check was dropped off at the end of the meal for $60 per person!!! I went here with my girlfriend and her parents. The food was excellent and we really enjoyed our meals but the service was horrible. We sat down at 6. No one even acknowledged us until 6:20 and then we received water. It was at least 6:45 before we received bread and drinks. Our order was taken and it was probably 7:20 before we received our meals. We finished and received our bill. It then took 15 minutes for us to go up to the hostess and say can we pay our bill? It may have been the worst service ever. read more

Service is fine and friendly but it's not cool to put tip options on the receipt at 20, 25 and 50%. My wife and I stopped by here on our way home from Cooperstown. It is a little bit out of the way, but definitely worth it if you are remotely in the area. We started off with what might be the best stuffed mushrooms I have ever had. The stuffing inside was bursting with flavor and they give you 6 good sized mushrooms. For our meals, I had the stuffed sole which I highly recommend. A unique dish that they nailed. My wife had the pesto tortellini with grilled shrimp. A solid pasta dish. The wait staff was friendly and welcoming and the restaurant is being responsible Covid-wise. If we lived closer this would definitely be a regular spot for us. read more

well the food is not to die for as the saying goes. apps . the scallops were excellent, the pretzels ok, big pretzel not enough dipping choices. now the real food , burger as stated in the title (could have been better) fish sandwitch, never had anything like it ever a thin piece of fish with the breading thicker than the fish, grilled cheese was good, the fish of the day flounder with potatoes and veg, 2 pieces 1 was excellent , the other over cooked, dry, greasy. I ask the waitress to return it to the kitchen, she returned and said I watched the cook flake it, and looked alright to him(he should have tried to eat it) it may have been a bad night, I suggest you go and try it , we may have ordered the wrong items. sounds like the prime rib is the real item. read more
