I think this place has potential. Our party had several mixed up/missed orders which the servers were absolutely delightful about rectifying, but it was still a bit of a hassle. My steak was horribly over cooked (ordered medium rare and got more like medium well), and my cocktail was so-so. It was the first time I went here. I wanted to keep my business in Langford and wanted to try a new restaurant. It was mistake. It was Thursday night, it took 10 minutes before the server came to take our drink order and another 10 minutes to receive water and our drinks. We were served our mains by a different server, our drinks by another and our dessert by another. The server who brought our dessert left the plate and ran away so fast that I didn't even have time to ask for spoons. We asked for a takeout box from another server but it never arrived. I had to go to the bar twice, once to get spoons and again to get a take out box. No one asked my Partner if she wanted another drink. I spoke to the servers kindly, there was nothing that could have subjected me and my partner to such neglect other than bad business practice. I don't expect servers to bow to me or be at my beck and call but I also don't wish to be treated like Bum fluff specially when I paid nearly $30 for a main. I absolutely do not recommend this restaurant. Also, Not a big issue but the table was dirty, there was a piece of lemon seed from the previous diners. read more

During my recent vacation I took treated myself and a friend to a night at The Westin Bear Mountain. Jacks is located on the Bear Mountain property, but not owned by the Westin. We went and checked out their menu and quickly decided that is where we were going for dinner. They offer lots of pub style items as well as sushi items! It's a fabulous combination really. Looking at the sushi prices I decided to go with a pub choice - they seemed pretty high to me, but, after paying my bill and realizing the tax was super-super cheap (5%) I probably would have gotten some sushi. But, I'm glad I didn't either way. I ordered their traditional homemade Angus cheese burger and fries. The burger came garnished with lettuce, tomato, onion, dill pickle, spicy onion rings and a special burger sauce (not sure what it was exactly but it was delicious); there are other options you can add like pineapple, bacon etc (for a fee). I thought the spicy onion rings were an awesome touch. From the thick juicy patty to the toasted sesame seed bun this was probably one of the best burgers I've eaten (even though I'm sure I've said that 100 times before). The fries were also home-made and perfect. The restaurant itself is very nice; rustic yet classy. And, there is also an outdoor patio. I'm not sure if it is a everyday thing - or just a weekend thing but they had a live band performing (I was there on a Saturday night). The band was great, they sang a wide rang of music and the girl had an amazing voice. Our service was top notch also; very attentive and timely. I still can't believe that delicious $12.00 burger came to $12.60 with tax - needless to say, she got way more than a 60 cent tip. I had made a reservation for 1:00 (for two perdons) on the web site and was told upon arrival that the reservation system doesn't work. They put us on a 15 to 20 minutes wait list. we waited at the bar and ordered two " mocktail " (mine was rather insipid). I go and check 30 minutes later and find out the receptionist forgot about us. She was apologetic and took us to a rather nice spot with very nice view. After ordering, we waited another hour to be served after I went and asked about our food. My friend, a senior, did not want to complain, but I was concerned for her as well. Except for the waitress, the staff was unfriendly and not professional when I expressed my concern. the food eventually arrived, mostly cold and a bit too salty for mine (baked halibut), but that was okay. The stars are for the view, the food was okay, a bit pricey for what I had, though. I am quite disappointed by the overall experience and the fact that they did not even served us appetizers or olives while we were waiting, nor did they offered the drinks as a commercial gesture. We've been to Jacks many times pre-Covid and never really had a problem, the waitresses were adults and knew how to serve and received healthy tips. Now come to post Covid they have 12 year olds chatting it up and not being attentive to the customer orders..we were a party of four and we all ordered, 3 received one did not. Those who received got mediocre food, cold stale and gross. Philly cheese steak not fit for a dog, The missed order was never received and when questioned about the pizza taking so long was told that the computer had a glitch! LMAO it was on the receipt!! How did it get there? Oh but they took it off they say..really? Why was it on the receipt to begin with? No answer and no further interaction with the waitress who cowardly sent another 12 year old to collect the money. Meanwhile the manager is not making sure the kids spend less time chatting about their latest Barbie doll and should manage the restaurant the way it was PRE COVID , sadly won't be returning. We thought this was a great place BUT OMG, we ordered bruschetta which was just melba toast with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar and some cut up tomoatoes in a dish, not even enough tomatoes to put on all the dried pieces of melba toast. Disgusting that they would even allow this to come out of their kitchen! We also ordered chicken strips and fries which were okay. My drink ordered was a double Barcardi Coke with lime and what I got was Captain Morgans with soda water and lemon. Waitress took it back no problem but then it took another 12 minutes to get another drink which was not a double but a single. They did take the bruschetta off the bill but really? Although I understand that we're all dealing with Covid-19 health restrictions. I am very disappointed in this restaurant and doubt that I will return, or recommend Jack's Place to anyone else. Let me start with the positives. Friendly staff, and good service. We didn't have a long wait for our drinks, appetizers, or meal. Our server was very attentive. Negatives, the food in general was a huge let down. Nachos although there were plenty, were over cooked and tasted stale. The Chicken wings were cooked to the point, I thought that they were blazed in a blacksmiths forge. My misses margaritas tasted watered down. The only good part of the meal was their chicken and prawns fettuccine. The limited seating with out heating made the entire meal something that we wanted to get over and done with as soon as possible. As for the price, it was a waste of over $100. Came here for my engagement celebration with the inlaws. Long story short all of the food except for my chicken burger was terrible(bruschetta was rock hard, no dressing on caesar salad, caesar wrap or greek salad. Quesadilla tortilla was hard as rock) we sent back the bad food, was incredibly nice to the waitress because her service was amazing. She started crying, we told her its not her fault and that we just wanted to talk to the manager to convey how bad the food is and then the owner showed up, told us we were incredibly rude to our server, was noticeably drunk, stared at us and said he was trying to remember our faces so he wouldnt let us back in for future times. All we did was send back some terrible food and wanted to relay the message to the manager so he can tell the chef. I was blown away that the server was crying since me and my mother inlaw were as kind as can be and told her its not her fault in away way. We paid for our drinks and the food that was good. What a disappointment. My boss told me to take my son and his wife out wherever they wanted to celebrate the birth of their son and our first grandson. They said Jack's was supposed to have great sushi and lots of other choices and they would like to go there. Having a shellfish allergy I asked if the could substitute any other roll fir the dynamite roll in Bento Box B. They says they absolutely did NOT ever make substitutions not even for an allergy. Curious about why they wouldn't substitute for less expensive items I discovered they couldn't because the sushi is prepared well ahead of time and not fresh to order. I was told "besides sir, a Dynamite roll without shrimp would just be avocado". I ordered a salad and let everyone enjoy their dinner. I am posting now so people are aware the sushi is not fresh to order. The staff must be so frustrated saying no to customers all the time that they get immediately annoyed if you ask for anything. Our waitress couldn't even look at me the rest of the meal. Quite impressed with this place. We initially thought top of Bear Mountain, another "pretty" patio pub... all ambience no substance, I mean how good can the food be? Ordered the Cashew-Chickpea Burger on a brioche bun and it was quite good, served with a generous side salad - a great deal for $13. Hubs enjoyed the Angus Cheeseburger with onion ring topping. Later on we ordered takeout: the Chicken Caesar Wrap ($14) which the hubs thoroughly enjoyed and nachos for me, wrapped in a big box with 3 huge soup containers full of sour cream, salsa and gauc. Portion size was alright, albeit pricey for $20. Right amount of cheese-to-chip ratio and toppings that included jalapeños and fresh tomatoes and red onion... someone knew what they were doing. Be warned they don't pick up their phone during busy hours. And patio gets packed in peak season, esp weekends. Grab n go takeout for a hike at Mt Finlayson or Lone Tree. Came to jacks because what I really craved was the sushi place that used to be here. It seems to have merged with jacks unfortunately. I wanted the sushi platter but it came with a greasy deep fried California roll. I asked if I could change that for somthing a little more healthy such as a regular Cali roll. They would not substitute the healthier option, and would have charged me $14.00 extra for the option I wanted. Terrible customer service. Was planning on spending ALOT on this meal as it was my birthday and I wanted to have a good time, instead I cut things back to the minimum and gave my birthday money to another pub later. Refusing healthier substitutions should be illegal and are certainly immoral. read more

We just live down the road from Jacks and decided to have take out for supper. We order the Jacks Homemade Cheese Burger and the Hot Chicken Wings. We were hungry and thought that would be enough food for 2 people only to discover we really did not need the wings. The burger was BIG and we got enough fries for 2 people. Everything was excellent right down to the 2 onion rings they gave us with the burger. We would eat here again and we will only order Jack Cheese burger to share next time and no wings!!! We go often to Jacks. Pub side of food is pretty good. Sushi is better than average with reasonable prices. However I will say usually when they get large parties the service and good quality goes way way down. It's unfortunate but if we walk in and see a table of 10 or more we walk out because we know it will be a terrible meal and service. I really like the openness of the restaurant. The patio improvements are fantastic with heat lamps and they are attentive to people who look chilly. read more

Showed up last minute at Jacks on Bear Mountain last night for a late dinner. I had the EXCELLENT YAM FRIES that are the best in town along with their own chipotle dipping sauce (normally I don't like chipotle but theirs rock) & their Mac & cheese which was gigantic and loaded with gooey cheese along with garlic bread. I was glad I tried it but prefer my Mac & cheese with the bite of tomato in it so grabbed the ketchup and s & p and made it a bit more interesting. Our server was polite and friendly without being fake (my 25 yr old son gets hit on constantly and I was with him) - she has a new fan & was very sincere - I wish I could recall her name but will pay more attention next time as she was amazing read more

When we arrived the host at the door was very friendly. He provided great customer service. After a short wait we were seated at out booth. The table had not been wiped down and was covered with remnants of the previous dinners. The waitress who seemed over worked arrived at out table and was friendly. Between her and the guy at the front desk they are the best things this restaurant has to offer. We ordered calamari as a starter along with various sushi items for a main and a kids pizza. The food was fairly prompt on arriving at our table. Things went downhill from here. The calamari starter was so so. The tuna tutaki was flavouress and still partially frozen. The shrimp roll was borderline rancid. The guozas appeared to be out of a box and were overcooked. There was another roll that was so underwhelming. This restaurant may be great if you get something other than the sushi. The staff was excellent! The food was terrible. Unfortunately would not go back. read more

On December 12th my husband, our friend, and I went to Jacks Pub around 7:00 pm for dinner. The sign at the front said to "seat yourself" so we walk into the restaurant side and seat ourselves. After a few minutes a waitress come by and gives us our menu and at that time, we ask if we could move to another table because the one we were sitting at was dirty. Once we were seated at our new table, we waited 20 minutes until we couldn't wait any longer. During that time, the waitress came to the nearby tables and served them at least 3-4 times and walked passed us as if we weren't even there. Take note; we weren't even given water at this point. After waiting for 20 minutes, we decided to leave. I have never in my life, left a bad review for any restaurant, however this time I was extremely upset. We had brought a friend who was visiting from out of town to this restaurant under the impression that we would get good food and good service. Our waitress could have let us know if she was very busy and would be with us in a few minutes; but the fact that she didn't even acknowledge us after we were seated was very rude and unprofessional. **2 thumbs down** :( read more

If you know where Bear Mountain is, you know it's not that short of a drive. I was super disappointed by the customer service today. The restaurant closed at 6pm for a private event, which is totally fine. However, we were there at 4:30pm and were refused to be served food as the last call for food has already been called. 1.5 hours before closing which is ridiculous! Came here for lunch and to watch a game. Food was ok. I ordered a Cobb salad which was average tasting. Their beer selection is not bad. The service was pretty slow, although the servers were nice and friendly. They had a few tvs that stopped working during the game, which they made little effort to fix. What annoyed me the most was when I asked them to call me a taxi. 15 minutes later, I asked them how long it might be for it to arrive. They said they never called one and I should just call one myself. I thought it was rude they didn't bother to tell me they didn't call one and refused to call one for me. read more

However, I think if you want to play yourself there is a $5 cover per person, which is a bit ridiculous. We went for a drink and a pizza on a Friday night and told the wait would be about 25 minutes. Fair enough, it was a Friday night. We ordered drinks and a pizza and then... almost an hour later we got our pizza. We were only approached once in that hour to see if we needed anything, and an explanation that the kitchen was backed up. After we finished our pizza, we wrapped the left overs in a napkin because our server was no where to be found and approached the bar to pay. No one could take our money as they could not find our server or credit terminal to take our payment Finally our server showed up and took our payment. The server was unapologetic about the lack of attention. It then took over an hour to get the food which was mediocre at best. The server knew the service was terrible and didn't even attempt to apologize. Not what I would expect for a restaurant recommended by the Westin staff on the same property.
