I'm a big fan of Texas style BBQ which the brisket here doesn't seem to resemble the brisket I've had in Texas. Our biscuits were still fresh, the fries were piping hot, and you just can't beat their milkshakes. We did go back the next morning for breakfast and some of the staff from the previous night were working and remembered us. The service and food quality were great again. Being that we live in the Birmingham area, we love Jack's and it is great to see that the consistency and quality is the same in this Laurel location. I do not see a reason to give this location low marks. They advise "casual country club attire", which is very funny as many, ahem, "gentleman" in the dining room had on various baseball caps... one guy was in flip-flops... and this place is not even in the same county as anything close to a country club vibe.... 5. While they do have cloth table cloths and napkins, sitting in this very poorly decorated and run down less than cafeteria atmosphere reminded me of sitting in the middle of a 1970s funeral parlor show room. I was looking for a casket with a dead guy laying in it.... 6. Presentation needs a complete revamp! No water served, no garnish of any kind, really nothing "nice" about this place except for the funeral flowers sitting in the middle of the converted garage, I mean dining room.... Great food. Quality food. Service provided by staff who would not know how to do a wine service, a staff who are very nice people, but a staff who have never eaten in a fancy restaurant in a first-class city like New York, Boston or San Francisco... foodie environments. The restrooms were in poor condition: garbage cans overflowing onto the stall floors, a dirty and unflushed toilet. To their credit, soap and toilet paper were available, but the overall state was unacceptable for a food service establishment. At the counter, servers were calling out order numbers but made no attempt to acknowledge me or take my order. I eventually located an unmarked kiosk and placed my order that way. To be fair, the food came out quickly and my number was called promptly -- but I then had to ask separately for a cup, as none was provided with my drink order. Unfortunately, the food itself did not redeem the visit. Before I had even left the parking lot, I opened my bag to find cold, soggy fries, a chicken sandwich on hard, stale bread, and a chicken patty that was tough, chewy, and barely warm.
