    Cuban Sandwich
    Shannon R.

I stopped here over the weekend for lunch after finding a Groupon deal for this deli. The Groupon deal was $20 worth of food for $9. The deli is hidden in a strip mall off of Street Rd. I've been in this mall several times but never noticed Jack's Cold Cuts. The setup is typical featuring a few deli refrigerators, cashier area and several tables for eating in. We were greeted immediately upon entering and the staff engaged in small talk with us. They made suggestions after finding out it was my first time there. I order #38 which is the 38th sandwich to be added to the menu. According to the owner, they had 37 sandwiches for over 30 years before deciding to add a 38th sandwich. #38 is a Cuban "sandwich" which comes with pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles and yellow mustard on a hoagie roll. The sandwich was very good but I think I would have preferred honey mustard instead. The "sandwich" was around $7 which is cheap considering the amount of meat on it. I would like to visit again to try some of their other offerings.

Great sandwiches and one of the few hoagies I've ever liked. The ingredients are really fresh. One time I wanted cucumbers on my sandwich and they didn't have any pre cut, so the woman turns around and cuts up a fresh cucumber just for me. I tried a bunch of stuff including the Ruben and I'm convinced everything is really good. I also noticed how clean they keep everything, unlike the chain restaurants. They're hard workers and if you want to support a local small business this is a great place to eat.

Jack's Cold Cuts & Catering (aka Jack's Deli) on Street Road in Bensalem, Pa., has been around for a while making fat sandwiches and catering local parties. When we walked in around 8:30 one morning last week, they were busy stocking up on the provisions that had just been delivered by the bakery. We were looking for breakfast, and Jack waved us to a booth with a smile as he carried a large tray of breads to their bin. The coffee wasn't made yet, so we knew it would be fresh. We ordered a couple of sandwiches (Sausage, Egg & Cheese on Kaiser, Pepper, Egg & Cheese on Croissant), and settled in to the sound of the staff getting ready for the day. The place is old enough to need a little TLC, but it is bright and airy. Our meals arrived in plastic baskets a few minutes later. They were hot and melty, but not best of breed. Run of the mill roll and croissant, and average innards. Adequate, but not calculated to win any awards. The coffee was on the same level. Okay. Jack's advertises that it is a "Jewish Style Deli." Maybe. It does have the smoked meats and East European breads and soups that identify that cuisine. But, it has ample pork products for the rest of the customers. Jack's seems like a place that is loved by people who have grown up on their dishes, but more objectively is happy to be quite average.

Who would have thought you could get delicious made-to-order buffalo wings that are crisp, meaty, and flavorful from a spot called Jacks's Cold Cuts? I tried the hot wings and the sweet wings and they both were pretty tasty. I also tried the steak fries, which are fries smothered in chopped steak and cheese. They are delicious and portion is large enough to feed at least 2 people. Prices are reasonable... almost a steal after using the Living Social or Entertainment Book discount.

Lots of drink coolers, bread, snacks, desserts, condiments and some other grocery items. Their sandwich rolls are Amoroso. There is a long back area for sandwich prep and an army of people there to take your order. On my two lunch trips I encountered one helpful guy and another that seemed annoyed that I asked about their popular menu items. (He did eventually come through with a great recommendation). First sandwich was a "signature hoagie" The Cornaglia - Genoa Salami, Black Pepper Ham, Capicola, Prosciutto, Imported Provolone and Red Peppers for $10. You can switch the red peppers to long hots and bread to a seeded roll. The sandwich was sizable and average. The amount of meat was good and the red peppers were good, but a bit bland. The Provo needed to be more sharp to raise this sandwich up a tier. It's a great price for the portion. Second round I went with a Chicken Caesar Wrap - grilled chicken breast, romaine lettuce, shredded cheddar, Parmesan cheese and Caesar dressing. $9.50. It held together well and was delicious. Great balance of flavors, chicken was seasoned perfectly. As far as wraps go it was a winner for me. The seating area is pretty large. I saw plenty of locals, police, union guys, nurses etc. Checkout staff was nice and thankful for the business. Reen's is the kind of neighborhood deli everyone should have. Thanks guys!

There's a gigantic sports field across the street and there's parking all along there as well. Definitely would return. Anyways it's been quite awhile since I've had Neli's because I'm currently working remotely and don't really come over that way on my general day-to-day, but they were just as good as I remember. Overall breakfast sandies are solid. Nothing spectacular, but reliably solid. The fry the eggs for their sandwiches versus scramble, which is great unless you get one that's the stringy end. Like I said, their consistency and reliability is moreso what I enjoy about this place versus overall pizzazz. One thing I will note though, is that a couple of their prices on the menu STILL don't match what they actually charge you, which is fine, I understand the prices are subject to change without notice, but I'm not kidding when I tell you I had brought this to their attention WEEKLY for about a year, and never saw any difference via print. There's no way they didn't order new menus within a year's time, and as it sits right now, it's been 3 years, so just keep that in mind. They also have zayada's spicy hot pickles in the frog as well as Stock's pound cakes which is a PLUS.

Of course I also got the parmigano reggiano, asiago, AND they have scamorza cheese AKA "scamutz!" If you've never heard of scamutz, it's like a cross between mozzarella and provolone.
