I will remind you that this is soul so it can be greasy. Although the chicken wings didn't look greasy and weren't heavily breaded. This is a place where you order your food to-go. They might have seating indoors but I didn't see a single person go inside. This is also not a fast food place. They cook every order fresh so it takes about 20-30 minutes. Wow! Went here for lunch after reading the Yelp reviews and it lived up to the hype! My co workers got Philly cheesesteaks and said they were great. I got the steak soul roll and I'm already planning for my next visit. The staff here was very welcoming and you can tell they love their work. Their food is superb. I had wanted a Philly cheesesteak and finally decided to give this place a try. I called ahead because I read about long waits- the first few times their phone just rang and rang.. these people are busy! Once I got through I ordered my Philly steak with fries and a red koolaid. It was all delicious, and I'd recommend. I tried the soul rolls another time and I can't say I was a fan of them... I'll stick with the cheesesteak from here on out. First time customer: One they need better signs to let customers know where to order. Two they need more lights outside of there establishment for there customers. Once you park in the parking lot, you see a door, however that's not where you order. There is NO big menu for NEW patrons to look at before ordering. They have a regular size menu on the wall. Which was difficult for my grandmother to read to order. They had a line forming and when we asked for a menu so we could step back and review the menu, we were told they don't have any. Even a paper menu would've been great to view in correct eye distance not on a wall. So this place is not consumer friendly in that aspect. Now let's get on to the food. Ordered the Phillies meal, and Buffalo and philly rolls. The fries were More like a five guys fry (not my particular choice). The cheese was in the bottom of the philly which wasn't good. The bread was soft and delicious, however it was barely enough meat on the Phillies. 3 Phillies = really 1.5 maybe if they were stuffed correctly. For the price I paid I would've thought I gotten enough meat on my Phillies. Very dissatisfied. The philly rolls were not crispy. Omg they were so soft and greasy. Could NOT finish. I did something a little crazy... I headed over to Jackie M's to try the Philly everyone was raving about on here while in Augusta when I knew I was going to be in Philadelphia 48 hours later. Basically sacrilegious, no? I've never had a Philly in Philadelphia, and y'know what? I went to Philly... and I still haven't had a Philly in Philadelphia. I just didn't feel the need. The one I had here was just so good! The meat and onions were flavorful and not dried out, the cheese was perfectly melty (they indulged my request for 'mixed cheese' - white american + provolone), and the bread was soft but sturdy to hold it all together. The fries were not an afterthought either- loved the cut and seasoning. Not a fancy spot, but a friendly spot! Just grab a seat in one of the dining areas to your left if you're eating in. Everyone made sure I was enjoying my meal and smiles all around. As I was checking out I got a 'Welcome to the family!' and loved that I was given a mix CD with some great tunes to listen to on the car ride ahead. While my sandwich was being cooked I walked around the place and well, I found out from reading one of the many articles on the wall the son went to Johnson and Wales! The atmosphere is something that just couldn't be replicated. I didn't expect a low quality sandwich when I walked around their interior because they cared about their home feel restaurant. I know that the cheese steak looks a tad bit messy, but that's how it's supposed to look because the taste is out of this world. Driving the streets of Augusta, I just typed in "Dinner" in my yelp app, and Jackie M's & Son popped up. A few minutes later I was pulling up into what looked like someone's drive way (I was...the parking lot was next door!), but this repurposed house that's now a restaurant is such a great find! First and foremost, the staff here are all super friendly and when you walk in the door, you're family. I cant remember the last time I felt more at home. When you leave they also give you a cd mix tape for free. I mean they really make you feel like you're at a relative's house. Enough about that though...how about the food?? I ordered their GB (Gut buster) Philly Cheese Steak ($8.50) + combo (Fries and drink for an additional $3.75), 5 piece chicken wings ($9.49) and sweet potato cheese cake slice ($4.99). What did I think? Right off the bat, the philly was good! It's served on an 8 inch hoagie sandwich bun, and the gut buster part is just the addition of extra meat. The sandwich comes with white American cheese and grilled sautéed onions. You can add things if you like, but I decided to keep it traditional. Great cheesy flavor, nice soft bread that kept all the toppings inside the bun and the meat was very flavorful too. Fries were hand cut, crispy and seasoned well! The wings I received were lemon pepper, and sadly, this is where they lose a star from me. The wings were not crispy, and had very little breading on them, making them almost feel baked in texture, not fried. The inside was juicy but the outside wasn't crispy at all. I did enjoy the flavor of the wings though. I did want a red velvet cake slice, but all that was available was their sweet potato cheesecake slice. This thing was big, velvety, and had flavor for days, with a nice crispy crust. It's really good! I also got a free chocolate chip cookie for checking in on yelp!! Staff again were fantastic, and gave me their nickel tour of the place while I waited. There's a lot of history and love displayed here. Also, there's a decent amount of tables for dining in but they wont be mad at you if you get it to go. Parking like I mentioned is to the right of Jackie M's in the form of a gravel lot. No parking spots...just park where there's space available guys! It's really something when you can lose a star from me and still have a strong 4 stars, but that's just what Jackie M's & Son is...a really solid hidden in plain site restaurant that if you're ever in Augusta, you really need to check these guys out! read more

The big beautiful brightly painted house sitting on Milledgeville Rd. just beckons you and if the smell of thinly sliced ribeye isn't enough, just follow the line that's out the door! This place is so homey, I wouldn't be shocked if people wore bathroom slippers-they don't but it's just that cozy and friendly here. It's way off the beaten path but has a strong cult following that's been taken to a new level all of a sudden. This is the one of two sandwich places I'll drive with a case of hangry to sink my teeth into. I'd recommend a classic cheesesteak with fries (your stomach will thank you) and a slice of their seasonal cheesecake. I've always been partial to key lime but sweet potato cheesecake has got my head turned around. This is the only restaurant that fills beautiful things inside a giant gyoza wrapper. Sort of reminds me of cheesecake factory's Tex Mex rolls in presentation but tastes better than their buffalo chicken wontons. The only thing I don't understand is the lettuce and tomato they include in a hot sandwich but that's my personal preference. But if they accommodated people who wanted mayo, I'm out. Kidding. Please do yourself a favor, plan out a nice lunch with plenty of buffering time with the ones you love and get ready for some good eating that'll give you the chills. This is a family run business which is great! The staff was so friendly and helpful! The food is absolutely amazing! Everything was prepared fresh and came to the table hot. We ordered the soul rolls with jerk chicken...they were so good! I was good after eating them; they were pretty much a meal themselves. Definitely a must try if you go! I ordered the hot smoked turkey and my husband had the hot smoked jerk turkey. We so full we only ate half of our sandwiches. And we had to save a little room for dessert. Decided to give this place a try based on their popular yelp ratings and enjoyed the cheesesteak very much. My husband and I shared the original Philly cheesesteak super gutbuster size which was plenty for 2 to share especially since we decided to give the soul rolls a try. We went with the buffalo chicken soul rolls with the yummy cumber tzatziki type sauce. They were definitely meaty but be careful when eating them as the sauce tends to ooze out when you bite them which can be messy. I really enjoyed the fries the most. This meal is heavy so keep that in mind. They are only doing takeout for now and have no public bathrooms. It seems like a lot of people pre-order and pick up at the window. It took us about 15 mins to get our meal and we were able to wait in the car as they have a loud speaker that announces your name when your order is ready. They will provide you a ticket with your name and order when you pay so make sure you hold onto that, as that must be shown when you pickup your food. The customer service was great. Great local mom and pop shop. Very convenient for this who work on Fort Gordon as well. Very small establishment where you can order ahead of time or at the window. They will call you up once your order is ready, no sit down. If you decide to wait in the car, just have your window cracked and music down, they will call you up over a speaker to let you know it's done. Also keep in mind, that means no restroom. Now for the important part, the food. We had the the Philly original and added mushrooms because we like mushrooms. It was very flavorful and full of meat, and just the right amount of cheese to get the pulled cheese effect required for a Philly. We had the super gut buster which can easily feed two people. The fries were fresh and seasoned to perfection. I love fries so I can literally order them all by themselves and be happy. We also had the soul rolls, with buffalo chicken. The koolaid was amazing as well, and even though I got the large, I was not ready to stop drinking it when I got to the bottom. Overall 5/5. My only gripe was price and wait time.
