This is my update after visit 3 to Joe's BBQ since moving to OP…read more This visit brought my review down a bit. I've tried more BBQ places in the area now. I met a couple of friends for dinner tonight at Joe's which did make my visit awesome! You order at a register, then pay, and pick up your food on a tray. A long line moves pretty fast, there's a decent amount of seating. so Zero complaints on service and ambiance. It's basically self serve and the decor is what you'd expect at a BBQ place. I was impressed with how smoothly and quickly it went with a large crowd there for dinner! I like the BBQ but it's not the best I've had. I got a 2 meat platter which comes with 1 side and toasted white bread. The brisket is pre-cut. I always ask for the lean side and the lady at the register said they cut it that way, but it had a lot of fat so I couldn't eat about half of it. The other meat I chose was pulled pork. It was fine. My side was corn. I'd call it Elote but they call it something else. It was very good. It's a small cup so I wish it were more since it was my favorite item of my meal. I also prefer a mustard/vinegar based BBQ sauce and they do not offer that at Joe's unless I somehow missed it but I don't think so. The BBQ sauce is very sweet! I would go back if a group of people I'm with wanted to go, but it's not the BBQ place I would pick for myself. Some of that is personal preference. It may be that you love fat (many do) and sweet BBQ sauce. If that's you, I would recommend you go!

Amazing ribs, tasty sausage, and probably the best burnt ends I've had in a while. Crisp and hot fries and onion rings to side. A+ tender and juicy smoked meats and excellent service on top. Thank you Dominique! This place is the best bbq in KC that nobody ever talks about. Plus the place is clean and laid back...the parking is easy and the neighborhood is safe.

They had our order ready when we arrived. Ordering online was easy! I've gotten the salad which comes with ham and Turkey - $13. I added some brisket for an extra $3 making my salad $16. It was good and I got a large portion of meats. This will probably sound like a weird complaint but the turkey tasted very strong. It almost overpowered everything else in the salad. I usually like turkey but this was borderline for me. Everything else was very good. I think we will be back for the rib special!

For me, I love seeing and smell the smoke rolling, having the brisket cut in front of you. I prefer my meat warmer as this cooled quite quick. The brisket was cut a little too thin for my liking. There were two cars in the lot which turned out to belong to the only two employees present. Even though there were no customers the place had a cozy inviting feel. I ordered the burnt end plate with coleslaw and beans. The burnt ends were as good as any place I've eaten and better than some. I would definitely order them again. The slaw was good, not fantastic, but good. The beans were a little lower on the scale and I may or may not order them again. The downside with Sierra is their hours. I would stop in on a Saturday if they were open. That said, I will return to enjoy more burnt ends and try some other menu options, which I'm sure I'll enjoy just as much.

For my sides, I got Mac and cheese, cheesy corn and potato salad. Turkey sandwich was good, per le bf. It had a good smokey flavor and wasn't dry! My brisket was also quite moist with minimal fatty parts, which is what I prefer. Sausage was ok, had to really chew into it. What I'm most disappointed about is the ribs. The ribs were good, but for almost $20, I got 3 pieces. They stated for the ribs plate, you'd get about 3 or 4, depending on the weight, but it would be nice to note that down somewhere that when paying $20, expect 3 pieces. Ive gotten double that and about the same price at other bbq spots, hence my disappointed and surprised when opening the container. Mac and cheese had huge shell noodles, which was cool but on the watery side. Potato salad was decent, got the job done but a little bland. Sauces are also on the tangy side, and if you're a sweet bbq sauce gal like me, it wasn't hitting the spot. Overall was nice giving a try, but will prob be going elsewhere for my bbq needs!
