I made our reservation weeks in advance because my husband is Lao and we rarely get to enjoy truly authentic Lao food -- it was worth the wait. I'm Korean and we brought his best friend, who's Chinese, and all three of us were blown away. Every dish tasted thoughtful, vibrant, and deeply authentic. If this pop-up was just a glimpse of what he creates, then Ma Der Lao Kitchen must be one of the best Lao restaurants in the country. Five stars, no question.

We arrived during happy hour and my husband and I ordered a Oaxacan theme drink with mezcal (YUM!) ; my son in law got the Changes in Attitude (frozen bourbon and coke with Buffalo Trace Bourbon) and our daughter ordered the Risk it for the 'Biscus which was a hibiscus flavored moscow mule. We started out with the squash puppies appetizer that comes with jalepeno jam and honey butter. My, these were like like angel pillows of fluffy decadence. I cut mine in half and put jam on one side and butter on the other and wow!!!! Our little grandson was devouring those things. Those are definitely craveworthy. I ordered the smoked sirloin that comes with mashed potatoes and gravy and balsamic brussels sprouts. Every single bit of thise dish was delicous beyond belief. The steak was cooked just a tad more than what I asked for (medium rare) but it was not enough for me to mention to the waitress because it was still so very delicious. The potatoes and gravy were absolute perfection and I could have dreams about the brussels sprouts. The rest of our party ordered the grilled chicken power bowl, the chopped cheesesteak sandwich and the grilled chicken bacon club on a pretzel bun. The chicken club was a big hit at our table. I think I was the only who did not try it because I had enough going on with my meal. We really enjoy the Winston Churchill theme and the vibe here. The wait staff here is absolutely top notch.

I had a great grilled chicken and avocado sandwich. My friend had a personal pizza. My husband had a very good Cobb Salad with chicken. That looked like a terrific choice. The service was excellent and prices were good. This is in a great location near Top Golf. I highly recommend Eddies!

After 40 minutes I finally asked my server to physically go check on it. She disappeared into the kitchen for 10 minutes, then came back with the manager. Turns out my server had rung in a cocktail instead of my salad. Fine -- mistakes happen. What's not fine is that the manager's solution was to ask me to pay the difference because the salad cost more. I'd been sitting there for an hour. I said no thanks, cancel the order. On my way out I overheard the manager tell the bartender "don't worry about it" -- apparently already moving on while I was still standing there with no food and no apology. I turned around and confirmed my card wasn't charged. Left after an hour. Hungry. And no putting Eddies on the Do Not Go Back list. Went to RR and had a RR salad. Belly happy!!!

I measure burger spots by their onion burgers if they have one. My gold standard onion burgers are at Tucker's and The Garage. I like an onion burger to have onions seared into the patty, but I will take sauteed onions as a close runner-up. That is what you find on the onion burger at 74. I ordered my onion burger with no cheese, some dill pickles, and the scallion aioli on the side. The sauteed onions were the best part about this burger - buttery and savory and mmmmmmmm good! The patty itself was more firm than I like; I suspect that it started out frozen in the kitchen. That's not my preferred burger. However, it was served hot and had some grill flavor. The onion bun sounded promising on the menu description, but it ultimately added nothing to the taste of the burger. On the other hand, the salty, crunchy dill pickles provided a good contrast with the umami from the sauteed onions and burger patty. I tried a little bit of the aioli by itself and decided that it was not worth putting on the burger because it was much too rich for me. I ordered green beans instead of fries for my side. These reminded me of the green beans at the Drum Room. Sigh. I miss the Drum Room. Their fried chicken was my favorite in the OKC metro, and those green beans were my favorite side. At the Drum Room, they were uneven in quality. Sometimes they didn't make an effort to mix the bacon and onion into the green beans. What I ate at 74 was the best version of the Drum Room green beans that I remember. Crisp green beans mixed with real bacon bits and sauteed onion bits -- mmmmmmm good! 74 is not near where I live or work, but it's worth another visit to try some more burgers and their wings the next time I am near Nichols Hills.

I do recommend checking the waitlist they have on their website if you plan to dine here - it just gives you a good idea of how long the wait will be and you can also add your party to the waitlist before you arrive so you aren't just standing around waiting for 30 minutes to an hour, this location gets pretty packed some nights. The restaurant itself is pretty big, it's been the same for as long as I can remember and I like that about it. It isn't super trendy or chic, it's got the wooden floors and pool tables and it just reminds me of Oklahoma if that makes sense at all. Our server was super nice, he was on top of everything and had a great attitude. I ordered the frito chili pie - mostly for the fact that I live in Florida now and I don't know of anywhere else that I can order that, it's a nostalgic thing for me for sure. I also had a side cesar salad - no complaints there either. The food has always been good for every time I've visited here. You have to check out the gift shop as well while you're here - you can't go to Eskimo Joe's and not bring home a cup, or shirt, or sweater, or koosie showing the world that you've been there lol The gift shop really is one of our favorite parts about eating here. Our kitchen cabinet has stacks of these Eskimo Joe's cups (which is great for a house with kids) and every member of the family has an Eskimo Joe's shirt...we love it here and will definitely be back.
