Time for a classic "I can't believe I've never reviewed this place!" line. JWB is my go to Wynwood brewery and the one I recommend all visitors must pay a stop to while drinking around the neighborhood. To start, the beer is good and that's what you're here for after all. I get excited knowing that each time I stop in, there will probably be a new brew for me to try on their ever rotating menu. I'm not a fan of sours, but they may be changing my tune. Little by little... There is not a ton of seating inside and a couple of picnic tables out back. Depending on when you come, it can be pretty empty or quite full, so pick your poison. On busy nights, there is usually a food truck parked in front so you can grab a beer and some good eats at the same time, which is always nice. When all is said and the beer drank, JWB deserves the recognition for having some darn good brews. I'll keep coming back here again and again! P.S. The first time I've ever went was for a Yelp event and experienced my first ever brewery tour! Love the Star Wars, Super Mario Bros, and other cool geekery art that you find in every corner! I went again during Art Basel week and was blown away by their new release of the Hazelnut Stout. SERIOUSLY. MIND BLOWING. Can one beer make quite an impact? Yes. 11/20/2016 - Last stop on this brewery tour. Great Star Wars vibe here with industrial touches. Awesome mural too by Luis Valle. I was lucky enough to run into Luis and his dog at the brewery and he was so nice to let me take a picture. My flight: Campos De Fresa, Blonde Ale (9.5% ABV)/ Duck American IPA (6.5% ABV) / Great Scott, Scotch Ale (10% ABV) / Harbinger, Stout (12% ABV). The Campos had a nice strawberry flavor, great for the Florida heat. My favorite was the Harbinger Stout; it has a nice hazelnut coffee taste. Perfect to end the night. I was able to have the beertender let me watch the NASCAR race. It was the last race of the season! Would love to come back her and try more of their beers! read more

My favorite brewery in Miami! Great setup, nice bartenders, respectable prices and most importantly solid beer in a variety of types! Yelp Talk Miami suggested J. Wakefield to me as an avid sour beer lover. When I went, they only had 2 on tap but their 6% Jamaican Me Swayze may just be the best sour I've ever had. It made my lips pucker and boy did I love it! I had Jamaican Me Swayze as part of their $12 specialty beer flight, along with Cafe (strong coffee flavor stout, 6.5%), Mongo Barleywine (11%) and Let Them Eat Cake (an 8% Stout based from the German Black Forest Cherry Torte). Nothing in this flight disappointed and their flights are well labeled for easy identification. I also had 4 beers from their Flagship list and a Core flight like this is only $8. Amazing deal! You can choose which beers you want in their flight and I went with Stush (a super low 3.5% Berliner Weisse sour), Hops 4 Teacher IPA (6% flagship IPA), 7% UJP Porter, and 24th Street Brown Ale (6.8%). My friends all liked the brown ale best of all 8! I also liked it but of course liked the sours better. That being said, the flagship flight was a very good set of beers and none disappointed! Finally, I tried their Oktoberfest which isn't my favorite style of beer - but 'tis the season! I must say it fared better with my tastebuds than similar brews. Really, truly - I didn't have a single bad beer or experience while at the brewery. Loved it! Everything about J. Wakefield was just my vibe and what I look for in a brewery. I loved their awesome murals throughout, they had great patio seating plus an awesome food truck was on site. Next time I'm in Miami, I'm going to make a point of going back to J. Unfortunately this establishment isn't worth your business nor time, because it does not respect either. The beer is overpriced ($12 for an 8 oz) and be sure you will waste your time. You'll be guaranteed with disappointment by either not getting any beer during releases (even if you camp for hours on end) or it's just an average beer after all that wait. The chaos and frustration, whether it's inside ordering a drink or just waiting for a release, has confirmed their value and commitment to their customers. There are many other breweries that'll show their appreciation of your time and business, just not here. I am really disgusted with the owner and the attitude he has for his customers. Finally, it's revealed his character when a customer passed out and needed first responders for help. Not once did I see any employees or himself come out to show any concerns. Thanks, no thanks. I'll continue to voice my disgust for this place to my friends and family as I would never want them to be treated the way they treat others here. read more

*UPDATE 9/29/18 Unfortunately wouldn't feel right not sharing my disappointment with J. Wakefield's latest release, Miami Madness Day. This was without a doubt the worst bottle release I have ever attended and will leave a very bad taste in my mouth for some time. I was in line from 830am- 215pm and never even made it close to the front. This event was extremely poorly managed and Wakefield did very little to remedy the problem. Two people were removed by EMS after passing out in the sun and countless others left lined up down the block with no information. The lack of staff, organization and the disregard for their customers was just inexcusable. Wakefield issued an apology on their social media platforms but this will be hard to forget. read more

First time here. We walked in to an impressive Star Wars mural. We ordered two beers; Kolsh and light coconut brew. They have different flavoured popocorn but we opted for the food truck outside. Delicious patacones (fried plantain) spicy beet and another plate of ceviche of artichokes and heart of palms. Friendly staff and above all dog friendly. We brought our mid size doggie, Greta. Their beers rotate, so suggesting a specific kind of beer may not make sense by the time you've read this review. The bartender told me, though, they specialize in sours, and I liked the ones I tried. As an IPA fan, I dug theirs, too. II. SPACE: I love the Star Wars-themed interior. They also have bar seating and a few tables (both inside and outside). It's not the biggest space, so I'd suggest visiting during non-happy hour days and times. III. PRICES: Compared to other breweries in the area, J. Wakefield charges a few dollars more. I wouldn't consider them outrageous, though. IV. SERVICE: Surprisingly, I don't consider them the friendliest. (I have no idea why.) But they pour out the beer fast enough. V. That is why I am very happy about the opening of this brewery and tap room in Wynwood. J Wakefield Brewing has been around for a while, going from festival to festival, sharing their beers, having tap takeovers at pubs, and even pairing food and beer at certain gourmet restaurant(s). To say that you haven't heard of J Wakefield himself or the beers that he makes could quickly label you as a beer noob. The more important thing about JWB's beer is that it is always really good. Solid. And it almost never fails to impress. He either has a magic touch for brewing, or an extreme eye for perfection, or an excellent team of brewers (probably the later). Whatever it is, you need to have this beer in copious amounts. After quite some time, and when I say quite some time I mean months, the brewery is open, and the beer is being made and shipped out around Miami. I was one of the lucky ones to be there as soon as the doors opened, and I couldn't be happier. The taproom at the brewery is pretty cool. Lots of artwork was commissioned, the furniture was ordered and it's actually made out of old barrels. The space is open, clean, inviting, airy, and best of all, lots of people fit in. And with a little touch of whim, and if you are a Star Wars aficionado, you may be in for an extra treat. And the beer... the beer is great. It doesn't matter what style of beer you like the most, be it IPA, DIPA, Stout, Porter, Barred Aged, Berliner, Fruity, Farmhouse, the variety of the beer will not only keep you on your toes, but your taste buds will be very happy. I am almost certain that if the beer is not good, it won't be sold. Period. So, make sure that you stop by. Come in with an open mind, ready to try lots of new flavors and beer treatments (fruits, herbs), and witness this little brewery give the big guys a run for their money. The brewery scene in Miami is stepping up. While I'm pretty proud BPB still has the craft beer scene on lock, it's dope to see the motherland getting some love. J Wakefield Brewing came in with a lot of hype after being at various beer fests and winning folks over. While it took me pretty long to get here, I'm glad I finally did. Flamingo Juice - Guava Saison: This is the first one I went for. Guava beers have been super hit or miss for me. I've had some that were incredible...and some that were disgusting. Actually, I'd had more disgusting than delicious, but this one is deff one more mark in the delicious column. It really is like juice! Haterade Berlinerweiss: Ok, mainly got this for the color. I also heard JWB was killing it with berliners....I must say this tastes just like Gatorade, with a sour kick. It was good, but I couldn't finish the whole glass. Berliners are growing on me though...as much as I hate to admit it. Master Blaster - This is a coconut coffee vanilla porter that is potent! it's 10%ABV but kicked a little stronger than that I felt. It was good...but I was expecting more from it unfortunately. It's easy to see that these folks are Star Wars fans! The murals are pretty awesome, and there's some memorabilia around as well. Parking here can be tricky - after all it is Wynwood - but if you can snag one of the 4 or so spots right out front you'll be set. If not parking on the street is available. This has the potential to be a 5 star business, if they ever bring lambics or hard cider. I popped in this past Saturday for art walk lubrication, and generally liked the vibe of the place. Located in an industrial warehouse just off the main art strip, J Wakefield sticks out with its Star Wars and Sci Fi art. My bartender was friendly, and even recommended a couple of beers that might come close to my taste in alcohol. I settled for a Green Apple Stush - a sour I think. Potent indeed, but I have to be true to my taste buds I have to stick with three stars. Friendly service, and a great fan for sour beer aficionados. I came here right after visiting Veza Sur, also for the first time, and it was a welcomed change of pace. I like the small, intimate feel of J Wakefield. It's not a party brewery, it's one where you can sit and actually hear yourself and your company over some brews. The menu was also diverse, and I was pleased with the quality. They have a star wars theme going on inside, from the wall art to the Darth Vader behind the counter. Not sure what the infatuation was rooted in, but I'll be sure to ask on my next visit, as this was just a quick pop in and out for one drink. Cool place and affordable beer! I'm not kidding when I say that J Wakefield is probably my favorite brewery...like ever. I've had my fair share of craft brews all over the country (LA, Portland, Austin, Chicago, etc.) but never found myself wanting more than just a pint or two. We loved this place so much we went back twice! Their sours are perfect, exactly what I look for -- tart, smooth, and with a nice bite throughout. The Broussard (which is a Berliner Weiss, but still very sour-forward) was my favorite -- it had a great berry flavor with a vanilla/marshmallow aftertaste that was absolutely addicting. We also tried the Unity and a couple others, all were totally sessionable and delicious. Don't sleep on their hazy IPAs, which are equally as fantastic. We got one (can't remember the name) which was so smooth and citrus-y, it felt like you were drinking orange juice. We hung out on the outdoor patio every time we visited, and the staff was always kind enough to check up on us (probably because we're crazy tourists and insisted on sitting outside, even in the rain). I really can't rate this based on the day that I went which was a Tuesday afternoon it was not crowded at all and we did not order food. So as far as the rating goes it's just like any craft Brewing Company with knowledgeable staff in regards of the beer and location. I don't like the booths against the wall since I'm short and my legs just hang off the bench. Too tall, no foot rest. The seat is too far from the table so it was an awkward way to sit but that's short people problems. It's in the heart of Wynwood so you know about parking and crowds. This brewery is getting quite a name and has had a number of collaborations with some top breweries like Cigar City and Cloudwater. We were fortunate to get a chair at the bar and I ordered the Rok n Coco an American IPA with a tropical coconut taste. I next had the Rose' All Day an IPA which was also very good. This is our favorite local brewery and tasting room in Miami, bar none. Just a great, relaxed atmosphere with first rate beer that I'd stack up against any craft brewery in the country. As good as their regular lineup is, they also have a constantly rotating cast of special or limited releases, including collaborations with other breweries. Their March-April 2019 releases contain some mind-meltingly incredible beers. Our favorite is the Eton Mess Brush, a coconut chocolate imperial stout that smells like chocolate ice cream, tastes like a coconut chocolate milkshake, and also will leave you reeling after three glasses. Their beer is fantastic! The hardest part is finding parking as they are in a very busy area of Wynwood Arts in Miami down a side street. But once you are there, you will be in heaven. They have some great IPAs, Sours and dark beers. 14 beers on tap. They do 5 Oz pours so I tried three different beers. Hops for Teachers, an IPA, Guaperia Full Time a west coast style IPA with Citra hops and brewed with Guarapo which is sugar cane juice and the Empirus Bow, a Russian imperial stout brewed with coffee, hazelnut and maple syrup standing tall at 12%. They have beer brewing mastered. All of their beers were fantastic. The Stout was amazing, I could have sat there all day and drank that. The beertender was very knowledgeable about all the beer. She was promoting one of their brand new Sours at the time I was there but I'm not a sour fan, yet. They have an outside patio and tables and a large bar inside with an amazing full walled mural of Star Wars characters. Definitely a fantastic brewery that continues to impress and is starting to be distributed outstde of Miami, a well deserved accomplishment. read more

Pretty good beer selection- This time around I got the Miami Rainbows which I recommend if you like a stout that is bold and smooth. I always appreciate an informative beer menu and they do a good job of it. I personally think they're a bit overpriced but ai usually get something heavy and strong enough to sip on for a while. The ambience is very wynwood-y and laid back; they allow dogs which I am always happy about and it adds to the atmosphere of the small neighborhood brewery. They service is average but it doesn't take anything away from the experience. They have TVs and it's a good, not super-crowded spot on a Saturday evening to relax, hang out with friends, and watch the game. There's also food truck that comes around sometimes that sells killer yucca fries but check their schedule- it wasn't around on Saturday. read more

If you don't enjoy sour beer, at times the selection can be limited. if you are around when it's released, the DFPF (Dragonfruit Passion Fruit) is one of my favorites. The color is a bright magenta and for a sour, it's on the subtle side. JWB always has great can releases as well! They are tall boy 4 packs, and it's typically easy to snag them. Their bottle releases however are extremely hard to get. The line can be crazy! Really awesome Star Wars themed art too. Street parking, or there is a garage a block away. read more
