J Wakefield Brewing was on my " to try" list for a while and so very glad I got to try them recently. The beer I had was a fruited Berliner Weisse with a sour dominance. Between the sweet and tartness, guava flavor made itself known. Fairly well balanced beer. Perhaps a bit too sweet but it is fleeting as the sour (tartness) kicks in to curb from getting too much of a sugar kick. A fairly well made beer. Ventanita Vibes was the name of this beer.
I love this place! My friend and I always call it the Star Wars bar because they have a whole wall-length Star Wars painting. They also have Marvel images inside too. They have a lot of cool beers on the menu. I like sweeter beers, and my favorites are the Tally Me Banana and La Nada.
Always my go to beer spot in Wynwood ! J Wakefield is a star wars/ comic book themed brewery decked out with fully painted walls inside and out. The decor is awesome and holds true to the theme. They have indoor and outdoor seating. They also serve beers on tap and to go. J Wakefield always has nice beers on tap that can satisfy anyone's palate. If you get lucky they may have a fresh release of some of their epic barrel aged stouts such as "big poppa", "it was all a dream", and even the barrel aged coquito stout I had a chance to try. Ohh and they are also known for their sours, especially Miami Madness and DFPF which also made a list of best beers in the US. If you're concerned about food, they usually have a pop-up cooking up something nice out front of the brewery. I was lucky enough to go on a night they had the Wolf of Tacos. He was crafting up fire tacos! But Teds burgers and are you hungry grill also frequent the spot ! Come over to J Wakefield and have a brew ! Cheers !
A brewery with diverse and interesting styles, AND with a heavy and detail-oriented Star Wars-themed décor... sign me up, I thought. And boy, am I glad I paid a visit. Most importantly the beers are on point--the El Jefe was an incredible standout, a wheat ale with a hint of coconut that is noticeable but not overpowering, it felt like something I would love in any situation, but also felt very specifically Miami-an (not that I have much concept of what that means). You can get pints or a flight or even just a small pour of whatever they have on tap, which enabled me to sample quite a few (some might say too many) of their beers, including some of their incredibly tasty, incredibly strong barrel-aged stouts. I sat at the bar, where the bartender (I believe Robert) was fun and engaging and I believe I earned a buy back at the end of the night for my heavy patronage, which is always appreciated. I do wish they had some food--they had a food truck outside but it packed up kind of early, but other than that just fantastic. As mentioned, the décor is very Star Wars-themed, with some other comic/super hero motifs thrown in. I think anyone would feel welcome in this cool environment, but certainly a little something extra for the nerds. I loved sitting at the bar but on the way out realized that I missed out by not sitting at the large communal table that is a replica of Han Solo in carbonite. Also enjoyed the digital board behind the bar where I could see my Untapped check-ins in real time--not a bad way to make some virutal/social media friends enjoying beers at the bar with you. Cool and chill and with excellent beers, just one of my favorite spots I hit in Miami.
Such a neat spot! We are in town for the weekend and this was the first place we grabbed a drink, and found ourselves liking it so much that we came back the next day to try revisit some of our favorites and try a few additional ones. Personally, I really enjoyed Punch It Chewie and Cooler Than a Taun Tauns toenail. The blue raspberry is SO unique and I have never tried any other beer like it! The BA Pecan stout was also delicious and a heavy hitter.
It's been a year since I've been to J. Wakefield Brewing, and it's even better than I remembered! Friendly service, fun vibe inside (very much marvel and starwars, even festive for the holidays), and most importantly, a plethora of delicious and unique beers many of which fall under the stout or sour profiles). We ended up trying 7 beers in total (they can do 5oz tasters), with our favorites being the El Jeffe, the sour blue raspberry one (forgot the name), and the punch it juicy (Collab with Equilibrium Brewing). Do yourself a favor and stop by! You won't be disappointed. May even be back during this trip to try some more!
The beers here are absolutely fantastic. I've come a few times to this brewery and honestly I'm always thrilled with them wide variety of brews they have available. This time was no different. Came in on a Saturday afternoon and it was full of people. People had come in to watch the UM game. Also there was a bbq going on outside with a DJ. The vibe was awesome. My husband was able to order and get his beer quickly. The only negative about this brewery is that you cannot sample their beers without paying. That means for $5 you have to get a small tasting. I can understand this since most of their beers have a high abv. Which means that most pours are in small goblets. The beers are well priced. There is plenty of seating especially for the size of the establishment. There are single bathrooms which were clean. The entire brewery is decorated in Star Wars and Marcel paraphernalia. The owner must be related to me (beer-Star Wars-Marvel). It's nice to come in just to take photos of the art and the place. The outside has seating as well with wall art everywhere. The beer I got was AMAZING. A strawberry blonde ale. So delicious. My husband got a Russian stout. Also very good. Def will be back and send people over here to get their beer on.
I can't begin to express how dope this brewery is. I'm not a big beer person but I definitely love a sour. J Wakefield has more personality than your typical business. First off, the service blows you away when you first walk in. The friendly staff makes you feel right at home and will offer all the guidance and recommendations anyone could need. A friend and I opted for their flights. We did 4 5oz tastings each. We sat at the bar as we were poured each one and we're advised on the name and flavor. My personal faves: blueberry crumble and no days off. Every question was informatively answered, these people are no amateurs only pros here. In less than an hour we're having the time of lives enjoying the marvel artwork, sick music, and the diversity of drinks they offered. A big bonus is their weekly selection of food vendors. On Saturday and Sunday TED BURGERS the best burger in south Florida (pop up only) is available here. OKC double is a must. Made in Dade is right. Best of the best!
Ben talked about this place obsessively so when we were down in the Miami area, I made sure we took the time to make a quick stop before the baseball game so he would finally shut up about it. LOL. The owners must have a serious thing for Star Wars as there was lots of paintings and items throughout the brewery, which is pretty normal from all the different breweries I have been to. The place was pretty busy but we were able to snag a table for two to enjoy the flight we ordered. Our premade flight, which was labelled "build your own flight" LOL had De Piña, Blueberries!, All Hail! and Ginger Yum-Yum. I also ordered a mead, Mjöd House Boysenberry, they had on the menu that could seriously kick your butt being that it is 18%! That is a one and done.
Awesome staff and I love the selection of sour beers here. Great themed brewery throughout the whole place, star wars with a hint of superheroes. Reasonabk prices too. Downside is no flights but you can make your own. Each small tasting is 4 to 5 bucks. Cool and simple outdoor area to sit at. Enjoy the art.
It's like a nerd cave. I can't even call it a man cave because it's inclusive for all nerds. After you get over all of the art inside and out try the beer. The ever rotating selection of beer has something for everyone. I wish that I could've taken some of the beer home. The people behind the bar were equally as great as the art. We sat and talked all night sharing art. We loved this place so much that we went twice while on vacay.
We came to celebrate Father's Day...yup, my husband loves beer. We brought our 3 kids. I got a flight and James helped me pick them. Loved the El Jefe! We played Jenga, video games and my kids colored so much. They're very kid friendly.
A small brewery with excellent star wars and super hero decor with some scattered action figures including a Chucky doll. They offered a good selection of craft beer on tap in addition to cold canned brew. There were a few large tables in the outside patio where the just set up a big bbq tent. We had the Lil' Hugs Lemon Raspberry Sour 6% $9.00 - Hops 4 Teacher IPA 5% $7.50. Both were poured perfectly and ice cold. The sour was my favorite. The bathroom was just as decorated as the bar. The walls were all covered with Star Wars and super hero stickers - loved it - and it was clean. read more
Always love coming to this bar when ever I have the chance to. The staff here is always friendly and helpful in choosing the right beer for your mood. Unfortunately the last time I came a lot of the beers I usually drink here were either tapped or no longer brewed. The vibe here is awesome and the art on the walls we done well. They usually have a food truck / stand in the parking lot to pair with you pour. read more

Absolutely love this place. One of the best breweries in miami proper. High quality beer, a nice staff and smiling faces who are passionate about the beer, and a great star wars and superhero theme with changing mural art that is a pleasure to share good times around. This place is great! There's always something going and great beers, of course. The murals are all star war themed and look superb. They often partner with food trucks and a burger joint that sells like hot cakes (smash burgers anyone?). The beers and selections are always good and they also offer beer flight options. read more

Ok so my review is actually for Ted's Burgers, which is a pop up located on the front patio of J Wakefield Brewing. I was researching smashed burgers in SoFl Bc they are my absolute favorite. Keep those big, fat patties to yourself! There's nothing like a thin, crispy patty smothered in gooey cheese. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that's exactly what they're serving up at Ted's Burgers! Since it's a pop up they have unusual hours (only Sat & Sun afternoons until they run out). I made the long drive over one Saturday and ordered two double Ted's burgers. Ommmmmmggggggggg...no joke...too 3 best burgers I've had. But again, I'm a fan of smashed burgers. If your a thick patty kinda guy/girl you may not get the hype but I certainly do! I just wish they would expand their hours or even...fingers crossed...get their own permanent location. Another thing that isn't the best about them is although they are supposed to be open ever weekend, sometimes they are not and w/o any notice. For example, when I went on a Saturday,I overheard a customer ask if they would be open tomorrow (Sunday) and the employee said no. Even though they are supposed to be. Had I not gone that day and instead made the long drive over there the next day I would've been upset to find them closed with no notice on their Insta. So, again I'm really hoping they branch out from being a pop up. Anyway..still...Ted's Burgers is legit. No pics as I devoured my burgers too quickly. Check out their Insta for some pretty bomb pics! read more
Stouts, stouts, stouts! Just amazing freaking stouts. Their brewer puts his heart & soul into stouts & sours. They have a lovey selection of other styles. The IPAs are great. But the blood, sweat & tears put into the stouts is palpable. Great patio & food trucks & cool artsy neighborhood & Star Wars themed art & flight trays are a bonus. But, dood, stouts! And you can find their current selections on tap on Untappd. read more

We came here to try brews, but we also came to see the Star Wars and Marvel-themed murals (for my hubby and to send pictures to his friends). I didn't love the beers because they had lots of fruity hints but they were well-balanced the flavorful with a smooth finish! My husband enjoyed them. The one that stands out was the coconut wheat which I had a pint of. The owner (or master brewer?) came out and spoke to us about the murals and closed the garage doors so we could see more because he saw us photographing them which was awesome and very thoughtful. This is a unique brewery with something cool to order in addition to refreshing beers. read more
A group of five of us hung out here this afternoon and had a very good time. We really enjoyed the different beers they had on tap, especially the El Jefe, which had a nice banana taste to it. They told us it's best to order from the digital TV menu behind the bar, instead of the paper menu. Staff was decent and served the drafts up quickly. They have two different sizes, 5oz and 15oz. Unfortunately there's no food at all served here. I liked the big screen TV with football playing. A few suggestions, - They should at least provide some type of food, such as peanuts or pretzels. - The high chairs for the tables don't have any place to rest your feet. Make them more comfortable for customers. - The men's room was in disgusting shape. Clean that up. read more

I was in Wynwood on a Star Wars themed bar crawl. Although J Wakefield Brewing was not part of the crawl I could not miss a Star Wars themed brewery so I had to work it in. J Wakefield Brewing is the brainchild of John Wakefield. He started his craft beer brewing hobby at home by brewing sour beers made with Florida fruits. After gaining acclaim he launched a crowd funding campaign to open his own brewery and reached his goal in 30 hours. J Wakefield opened it's doors in 2015. As you walk up to the entrance of J Wakefield there is a huge mural of Darth Vader on the wall, picnic tables, a VW Vanagon, and a food truck parked in the courtyard. Inside the door is a bar, tables, and more Star Wars and Marvel themed decor. They have a 3,800 foot brewery, tap room, and Empire themed beer garden. The beer J Wakefield is best known for is the Florida-weisse which is a berlinerweisse with local fruit added into fermentation. An example of this beer is the lemon Stush. If you are looking for a spot to chill in the heart of Wynwood then look no further. Unique craft beers plus Star Wars is the best pairing in the galaxy. read more

Great vibes and great beer. Love the Star Wars memorabilia- Miami needs more nerdy spaces like this! Only wish it was a little bigger of a venue because can be tricky sometimes to get seating. Love that they have local food vendors outside so you can grab a bite. The burger vendor was there when we went and I'm not usually a burger person, but it was soo tasty, especially the bacon jam they included. read more

If you're in Miami, you gotta stop in. Their beers are awesome. They have a ton of different styles to choose from. The artwork is cool too. It was raining when we were there, so we sat inside, but they also have a ton of outdoor seating. Hopefully I can comeback one day when it's nice out, and have some more tasty beers. read more
This past experience at J Wakefield a few weeks back was my second time having some drinks at this brewery. My wife and I decided to have a pit stop in Wynwood while wasting time before our flight left to come back to Ohio. This couldn't have been a better spot to do exactly this! Not only did we have amazing beers here, but they had Superbad playing on their one TV! Besides the great choice in beer and movies, J Wakefield has some great artwork that is a combination of Batman, Ironman, and Star Wars painted throughout the hole in the wall bar. If you haven't been here before you are missing out on an experience for sure! They might just have the best beer in SoFlo! read more
J. Wakefield Brewing is an independently-owned craft brewery and taproom located in the heart of Miami's Wynwood Arts District. They make quality beers that don't always fit the norm. From their renowned sours to instant classics like El Jefe, a Coconut infused Hefeweizen and Hops 4 Teacher IPA, they craft traditional styles while utilizing local and occasionally unexpected ingredients, as well as, barrel aging techniques to give these styles a unique twist and depth of character. It all started back in 2005 with a simple Mr. Beer homebrew kit. At the time, John had obtained his Masters degree in accounting and taken the occasional culinary class. What started off as a hobby quickly grew into a lifestyle--the lifestyle of a brew master. Since, John has become a staple in the craft beer community. He has won multiple home brew competitions, accolades within the professional industry, and has gained world-wide recognition. According to ratebeer.com and beeradvocate.com, his DFPF (Dragon Fruit/ Passion Fruit) and Miami Madness Berliner Weisse are currently ranked number one and two for best Berliner in the world. John took this respect and recognition and utilized it as a platform to push off from. He was one of the first brew masters to utilize a crowd-funded campaign--CrowdBrewed--in order to raise $55,000 to open his own brewery. To his surprise, his goal was reached within 30 hours of the campaign going live. After much hard work, dedication and perseverance, J Wakefield Brewing finally opened its doors in January 2015 and the heart of Wynwood and a mega superhero in the craft beer community world wide. Cheers! read more

How realistic would it be to have some beers and watch a basketball game here at 6:00 on a Saturday? Are there ever TVs on with sports?
When we were there it was early in the afternoon, but they had some sports on so would think if a game was on they would have it on the TV ( at least one of them) It's a great atmosphere so would definitely give it a try.
Hi there, can my husband and I enjoy a brew and still take our 3 year old? Tried calling but no answer
