You can sit counter side and eat or take to go . First impression, I see the wall and she has serviced alot of people well known ! I was impressed . Then I actually met her . Her vibe and energy was so sweet and chill . I enjoyed talking to her . And you can tell she really cares about her customers . That particular day she was giving out a free sample of something her son made . Yes ! She also has her two sons working with her such a beautiful thing . She offers a variety of soul food and seafood options as well as burgers and more ! The first time I had some of her food my man brought home shrimp and grits and they were good but this day we walked in ! I told her about trying her grits from home and I wanted them again . She asked do you want regular or gumbo ? I said surprise me ! Ofcourse she gave me the gumbo grits and let me tell you ! Phenomenal! Every time I took a bite I danced in my seat I kid you not ! The rou was just right , it had shrimp sausage and crab meat ! The shrimp were plump not over cooked ! And a nice fulfilling portion ! I also got the fried catfish with fries and a side of bacon . Fried just right and again seasoned well not salty at all . Nice thick pieces of fish . The Oreo cheesecake was amazing ! Made from scratch ! Also a lady had came in after me she asked what she should get , I told her about the sample I tried of the loaded chicken fries and she said yup I'm getting that ( pictured in my photos ) everything comes out hot !!! Soo appreciated because we know a lot of places have stuff sitting under a heat lamp or warm up something premade . Not with her . Everything hot ! It's just her and her sons . It's a small kitchen so expect a wait but like I always say I don't mind waiting because I know I'm getting fresh hot food cooked with love and that's exactly what she does . I'm definitely coming back to try more items as should you ! I know people including myself can be picky when it comes to soul food because it's really based on who made the soul food in your family and your preference . This place is inside a market in the most sketchiest part of town but let me say this....the service was friendly and the food is bussin' - I really liked that they also take EBT for hot foods as long as it's on your card. Didn't use it myself, but thinking of people who don't cook and are homeless it can really benefit them as they often go without a nice hot meal. Saw this place on yelp and gave it a try since they had high ratings and good reviews. It's located inside a grocery store. We came before 3pm and there were a lot of customers. The owner was nice and friendly but very busy. We got the buffalo wings with fries and Philly chicken cheesesteak. It took around 30 minutes of wait time to get our food. It was served hot and freshly cooked. Most customers just had their food to go but we ate ours there since we were starving already. The food was great; tasty and flavorful. They have more food not on the menu that the owner was telling us to try. We'll have to come back and try those next time. There were some available seats if you want to dine in. I order their Bustown burger with fries, hot link with fries, Ox tail over rice with greens and mac-n-cheese and cornbread muffin, Shrimp-chicken-steak over fried rice(?) and a three meat BBQ plate. Yes I ordered all of these because if it was good I would have left overs. If I did not like it then I could try something else to determine a return trip. I tasted the love in everything. The burger, the patties were seasoned well, plenty of cheese, pickles and meat juice and condiments to send drips of flavor down my hand (I was along so the drips did not go to waste.) The hot link that comes on the burger is really well balanced, it did not over power the flavor of the burger with spiciness, I could enjoy the burger and the condiment make-up on my cheeks. The tapestry bringing the patty and the hot link together... the bacon. The ribs, are really good. I know to get ribs like their takes a lot of work because I cook ribs. The ribs a seasoned really good. The meat is tender and the entire rib is well covers in bbq sauce. The way the meat comes off the bone, I think these are competition style ribs. Delicious and worth the price. The greens and the Mac&Cheese are really deep in flavor and the textures are awesome. I do not care for oxtail because of the texture of the meat but their oxtail has one of the best textures I have ever had to to with the deep beef flavor. The shrimp-chicken-steak, asparagus over rice has so many different flavors the blend together with texture and seasonings. The care in the effort to prepare each of the meats in this dish can be sensed. The hot link was good. Simple, not over powering for my taste anyway, easy to eat and enjoy while eating it with fries.
