They deliver on time, on budget, with high quality and there were always touches that surprised little things that made simple things look better. We were left with a significant and irreparable measurement error, voided warranties due to faulty installation, uneven floors, and an extensive portfolio documenting substandard and unprofessional work along with denial of any responsibility. We bought a house that my friend aptly described as having "not a kitchen, but a room full of appliances." We had a few contractors come by and say they just didn't know what to do with the space. It was pretty concerning. But then we met Jim. He had a plan but was open to my ideas, which all came together in the form of an awesome kitchen. The whole thing took about two months, if I remember correctly. And not once, did the team not show up when they said they would. We had previous contractors work on other aspects of the home before we met Jim and every day was a roll of the dice as to whether they'd be there to work. We never had to worry about that with Jim and his team. J Severino Construction is 5 stars in my book. Jimmy, and his son Eric take every job personally not to mention their crew all workmanship is to the detail. They really listen to their clients and give them want they want. They did a major renovation knocking out walls putting up huge headers, running new pipes, etc. The job was done fast with no delays everything went smoothly. Had them back a second time to put a new deck on the house and I want to do more renovations J Severino will be the first and only contractor I call. read more

Many problems with his work and customer service -- inadequate advice, quality of some work and materials, long delays, etc. He refused to do normal contractor errands like ordering and picking up paint and charged extra for things that other contractors would have thrown in or should have been included in the first place. Some problems took weeks to fix and some never got fixed. He bid low, but we ended up with no savings in using him and a lot of stress and inconvenience. Some of the work was fine, but there were a lot of disappointments. read more

Jim Severino Construction Company recently did a major renovation to our home. Jim's work can only be dscribed as superb. Jim gave us a very competitive bid and ended up finsihing the work under budget and under time, a rare feat for a 150k plus renovation. I'd say the best part about working with Jim Severino is the fact that he is always reachable and has an incredible work ethic. I see that there is a negative post here on Yelp and the review is complete nonsense. I must admit that the negative Yelp post was a red flag for us before hiring Jim Severino, but I'm glad we ignored the negative Yelp post and put our faith in Jim. I have had a very good experience with Jimmy, so much that I have used him twice for major renovations. I used him back in 2011 to renovate the entire second floor of my home, which included demolition and cleanup of existing second floor, raising the ceiling height, adding an A Frame roof, sheetrock, installing a second zone for heating/air condition, and running new electric. As they worked on this project they found to many electrical issues that were performed from previous home owner and for the safety of my family they strongly suggested installing all new electrical throughout the upstairs instead of just doing "quick fixes". To date I have had no issues with the upstairs renovations. My second project which was just completed at the end of May was demolition and cleanup of an old concrete patio and 2 concrete staircases, wire lath and stucco existing retaining wall, install roughly 50 ft, retaining wall, small patio with retaining wall planter, re-graded my entire back yard and erected a timbertech deck with lighting. Jimmy worked with the town's building inspector to finally develop a suitable plan for both myself and town over several trips and the project came out better than originally designed. Even with some issues (electrical) after the job was completed, I contacted him and he was on the job the next day fixing the problem. He will always offer you suggestions and different avenues to get to your main objective even if your initial plan may be out of your price range. I personally like the fact that because he is local, he is very responsive and if is held up at that moment, he will respond as quickly as possible. read more

I interviewed three general contractors before going with Jim. I had full faith in him from day one based on his extensive experience working on homes in Rutherford and his overall knowledge of the home renovation process. I was often on site throughout the renovation and Jim was always checking in to make sure work was being done correctly, or doing the work himself. He was actually so accessible that I was blown away when I learned he'd also been leading another team in building a house from scratch at the same time of my reno. I jokingly wondered if he was a clone. Though we added several major things to our reno list throughout the process (new windows, extensions, etc) Jim never flinched and kept to a tight timeline despite the massive amount of work. In the end, our house looked amazing and because I was there so often during the process, I can vouch for how well Jim and his team worked. I used J Severino several times during the course of owning my home. His work for us has included basement french drains, an entire first floor renovation post hurricane Irene, and a full demo and rebuild post hurricane Sandy. His work is not only exceptional, but his level of professionalism, honesty and knowledge of his trade surpasses any other contractor I've ever worked with. His crew that I came to know for months at a time are fast, friendly, efficient, and dare I say without offending, very normal. They provide very quality work, that surpassed my expectations every time. During our post Irene and Sandy disasters, J Severino diligently worked according to insurance guidelines, advised on best options for our home, and was compassionate to the sensitivity and nature of our situation.
