Spinach dip. $2 off during HH
Amy W.

Looks like this place has a real Happy Hour cheers vibe, complete with plenty of regular characters. We love a good Happy Hour, so we grabbed a hightop by the bar and ordered a couple of drinks. I got the cosmo, complete with tiny ice crystals on top, which is my favorite. We started with the spinach dip, served Hillystone style with salsa and sour cream. I was not expecting much, but wow, it was really good. Then we split the special sandwich of the night, a sweet and spicy ribeye sandwich. This one was not my favorite. It had too much bread and too many green peppers, which I am not a fan of, although my husband liked it... Like the song says, two out of three ain't bad, and we will definitely be back. Taylor was keeping the whole circus running and you can tell she has seen a thing or two at this bar.

Kale salad with added salmon and goat cheese patty

Nostalgia brought us back to J Macklin's in Coppell and I am so glad that it did! I had my usual kale salad with salmon and almond crusted goat cheese patty and it was just like I remembered. I'm thinking next time I will ask for a side of extra dressing so I can get all dippy with the items in my salad. We started with the spinach artichoke dip. I have to say, the crispy tortilla chip topped with a dollop of dip with a smidge of salsa and sour cream makes the most delicious bite! Hubby had the half Cobb salad with grilled chicken and a bowl of tomato basil soup. He probably could have had a cup because the bowl was a very generous portion. I appreciated that the grilled chicken seemed very fresh and flavorful. We love this place and we will definitely return!

I came in for lunch and was excited to try them. Perhaps I had my expectations too high... The ambiance was American casual dining. Pleasant, woodsy, but not overdone. The service was really good. Attentive yet not overbearing. The food here was just okay. I ordered the Prime Rib French Dip, and it just did not measure up to the competition. It wasn't horrible, but it certainly was not that great. Review #2068

Chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans
Iris S.

We had passed this restaurant SO many times. I finally convinced my husband to stop for dinner one evening. And man were they packed. It was about 7pm on a Friday night and the wait was about 30 minutes- please note there is not much of a waiting area. Had we waited until 7:30pm it seemed to clear out quickly. However, they were running out of EVERYTHING. And it was a Friday night- so I mean come on- since they were open until 10pm what would someone who came later than us have to choose from? We tried to order the spinach artichoke dip- sold out. So we got the brisket nachos- they were flavorful, but the chips were too thin and kept snapping once they got too heavy or soggy from the cheese. But they tasted good.... My husband got the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans as his entrée. The steak was incrediblyyy fatty. I know they ran out of mashed potatoes not long after we got our food because I heard the server tell the table next to us- how do you run out of mashed potatoes?!? I got the grilled cheese with the tomato soup, and fries. I honestly could not complain, it was pretty good. It just seems there is room for improvement. I would come back again, but no rush.

Cobb salad

I had chips aub queso as the starter it was ok. Additionally I had the Cobb salad as my dinner. It was a little small for the priceand it was ok just wish there was more. I also had a beer it was good. Seat at the bar service was good. Atmosphere was ok.

We stopped by on the weekend it was freezing. I wanted to try it since it seemed like a local favorite. On our first visit, we had Queso with Chips. It was delicious. We also had The Goat Cheese Salad. I have never had a Goat Cheese Patty but it was perfect on top of the lighter salad. For Entrees, we had the Shrimp and Grits and The Turkey Sandwich. It was so tasty we decided to come back again. On our second visit, we decided to have the Goat Cheese Salad again. We had more people in our party this time. We ordered the Chicken Fried Steak which was perfect. Also had the Brunch Enchiladas Verdes. They kicked up the spice with extra chiles. We also had The French Dip. The atmosphere is very casual with quite a few locals coming by. We had great service with Alberto. He is quite the personality. The food was quite tasty. We will definitely come by again since we are usually running errands in the area.

Steak Frites with Parmesan Fries

Stopped in and grabbed a spot at the bar to have dinner and watch the World Series game. Breanna took great care of me behind the bar and she was very busy throughout the night. The food runners were very friendly and my food arrived at a very reasonable amount of time. I'm started with the Ahi Tuna Tar Tar appetizer and it was just average. The "crispy" wontons were pretty soft and almost stale, which was a bummer. The tuna tasted fresh and the coleslaw/cucumbers were refreshing but seemed like a somewhat cheap attempt at a nice dish. My Steak Frites with Parmesan Fries came out a few minutes after they cleared my dirty plate, which was perfect. A lot of places don't time this right when trying to eat dinner alone and you end up with multiple dishes in front of you at once, so I really appreciated this. The steak was cooked correctly and I enjoyed the herb butter melted on top. The fries were delicious and just how I prefer them, skinny/crispy! The aioli sauce on the side was a perfect addition to both the steak and fries. The quality of the meat seemed to maybe be subpar but for the price, it's tough to complain. Overall, it seemed like the staff all loved working together and they knew so many regular customers, which was cool to see. While the food quality might not be the highest like a fancy restaurant, the more than reasonable prices make up for it.

Bad food, bad service, high prices, poor quality food .. We got the brisket tacos ($16), cajun shrimp + avocado($20), and the parmesan truffle fries. The brisket was super dry and the taco itself was even more dry. It came with a side of corn that was made from frozen corn and was tasteless, too. The cajun shrimp + avocado dish barely had any avocado in it and it also came on a bed of tasteless frozen corn. The parmesan fries were the best thing we ordered but they came out room temperature. Our server didn't come to our table until 15+ minutes after we were seated. Another server was busy chit chatting with his friends and kept his table waiting for long periods at a time because he was distracted. The ambience was pretty nice but all the other downsides are definitely going to keep us from coming back here unless there is a family gathering or birthday we are invited to. Pro's : Has a good amount of parking, easy to find, good location if you live in Coppell.

We had an 11:00 AM reservation and noticed plenty of open tables and booths (though I'd still recommend booking ahead just in case!). The food was incredible: Strawberry Cheesecake French Toast: I wasn't even hungry when I arrived, but one bite of this sweet masterpiece changed everything. Highly recommend! Croque Madame: My friend ordered this and loved every last bite. Kids' Flatbread Pizza: Smelled amazing the second it hit the table--super garlicky! Her daughter devoured it, and after trying a bite, I'm already eager to come back and try their other flatbreads. Our server was fantastic--attentive, friendly, and fast with both drinks and food. I'm already planning my next visit with my husband. I know he's going to love it as much as I did!

The bartender served us until she got too busy in which a server came in to give us to go boxes and the checks. I had a fantastic experience but not everyone at my table shared the same sentiment. The bartender surprised me with the Espresso Martini (delicious!) and I ordered the Spicy Sausage pasta (yum!). My Espresso Martini was far superior to my friend's Tiramisu Martini. I thought my pasta dish had a balanced amount of pasta and sauce and a superfluous amount of sausage, which I am not complaining about. Unfortunately, I tried my friend's Chicken Parmesan and it was too flat, dry, and the tomato sauce was highly acidic. I guess this place can be a hit or miss, but I enjoyed my picks.

We had two servers and both were kind and helpful with taking our order and getting drinks and food out on time! The restaurant is mood-lit and vibey. It's a calm atmosphere and their bar area is stunning. I got the fries and friends, which came with three dipping sauces. This is a very generous portion and my boyfriend and I were unable to finish it between the two of us- would be great to share with 4 people, in my opinion! I also got the Brussel sprouts, which I did finish. They are cooked to perfection and have an incredible garlic sauce. They used to have grapes mixed in, which I LOVED! However, they have since changed the menu. I understand it was an odd pairing and maybe guests didn't want to try it, but it was great!!! Sad to see it change, but still good! My boyfriend and I both got the great rum punch, and it packed a punch! Although l couldn't taste the alcohol on the sweet drink, I could feel it! We had a great time and will be back. We wanted to recommend the charcuterie board, we get it most times we come! The menu looked a little different, and the service was really good. We started with the fried green tomatoes, which were absolutely wonderful. I don't even like tomatoes, but apparently my objections disappear once you bread and fry them. I have principles. They're just negotiable. For my entrée, I ordered the steak salad. It was okay, but nothing I'd get excited about. The steak was lukewarm, and the dressing was sweeter than I wanted. I prefer my sweets in cake form, which, conveniently, was already part of the agenda. I'd skip the salad next time for the price; I've had better meals elsewhere. But the whiskey cake? Still amazing. Still worth remembering years later. Honestly, I'd come back again and again just for that cake. So my lunch had a strong opening, an underwhelming middle, and a spectacular finale. Thankfully, I'm very willing to forgive a plot issue when dessert sticks the landing.

A couple of days later I get a call from the restaurant saying they needed a $25 deposit over the phone, in case we cancel. I have dined at a lot of restaurants but never have I made a deposit upfront, they would just have a card on file and charge it if there is a no show. The lady on the phone (Chelsea) said we would only have 90 minutes at our table, which is standard for most restaurants. Nevertheless we paid $25 and kept our reservation, since Valentine's Day is busy time I figured this was the reason for all of this. Upon our arrival we were seated right away, and as soon as we sat down the hostess let us know that they would need our table by 5:45pm, because that is when the next reservation would be there. Right off the bat I felt rushed. I hated the table we were sat in, because we were so close in proximity to other people. Tycoon is very pretty inside, but if you are not seated in one of their spacious booths, the other tables are so close together, you will definitely hear other people's conversations. Let's talk about the food, I ordered the Lavender Lemonade as my cocktail and that was really good. For our appetizer we had the Deviled eggs, and I was excited because I love Deviled Eggs, but these were just okay. I didn't love how over stuffed they were, I just felt like it was too much. For my entree I had the Chicken Parmesan which I thoroughly enjoyed. I thought my meal was flavorful and the pasta was perfectly cooked. My husband had the sea bass and he loved his food. To end the night we shared their Dessert Trio and that was delicious, aside from the Creme Brûlée because that had no taste. Their service was good. Our waiter was nice and attentive. I definitely didn't feel rushed by him, but the same hostess stood near waiting for me to take my last bite of pasta so she could take the plate from the table. We were watching the time the whole time to make sure we got out of there on time. Overall I was disappointed. I get that Valentine's Day is busy day for restaurants but I don't want to be rushed through a dinner that should be enjoyable.
