I personally like my hair short but through ambivalence and laziness had let it grow out very long and it had been driving me crazy. I used to go to a stylist I loved but who had left her salon and I was unable to find her and so I was on the lookout for someone new. I had seen this new salon opened up but since it was new I felt apprehensive. However after seeing the great reviews here on yelp I decided to stop in on my way to work to see if they had a portfolio I could check out. They unfortunately didn't but Jesica gave me a hair consult and we talked about what I was looking to do and she showed me some pictures from her phone of a similar haircut she had done recently. Anyways, all of this left me confident I was leaving my hair in good hands so I booked an appointment for later in the week. I would highly recommend Jesica for a haircut. She did an amazing job and I'm really happy with it. I got a cute pixie type cut and it looks great. I've gotten a lot of compliments on it already. She's also really friendly and personable. The salon itself is clean and bright and they have fold up hooks next to the mirrors for your purse which I thought was clever. Amazing salon! I have never really liked my frizzy wavy hair until I started going here and getting the Deva cuts. For the first time in my life, I love my hair. Debra is awesome and very very nice. I also branched out to do some balyage highlights. What is great is that the first time, it didn't come out like I had wanted and without complaint, Debra was more than happy to fix it and give me enviable hair. But that doesn't mean they can only do that. If you have wavy curls and see someone's hair and think 'I wish mine would look like hers' ...'maybe THEN I'd wear it curly.' That was me! My boss from work recommend Jesicka. She's really good at the consultation. She asks a lot of questions and really listens to you to find out what you like. She even asked me if I cared if she used a razor to cut my hair. The salon is a little small. But don't let that keep you from checking it out. I like that I was able to make my appointment online. I liked that I got an email notification about my appointment and nobody called me. I have long hair. She washed, cut layers, and styled my hair for less than $60. Ok, so after wearing my hair for a couple of weeks and letting it grow in and playing with it, I'm really not a fan of the cut. The layers are way too short and it's shorter in the front than it is in the back, the exact opposite of how I went in. The layers look really awkward when I blow my hair out and I get a nice little mushroom effect. I also look like a toddler if I try to tuck it behind my ears. Overall, I knew going to ANYONE that I would not get the same cut I had before, just shorter; it's literally impossible, but the whole shape of my hair changed and it cant be fixed until it's grown out some. Not only did I start seeing Rachael, but now my whole family sees her. She's great at listening, gifted with styling, cutting, and color (ask my daughter with the purple streaks). Seriously, she put in reddish streaks into my black hair and they look fun but not unprofessional. I came here with a groupon to get a curly hair cut about 3 weeks ago. Best haircut ever! Cassie taught me how to do my curly hair better than I have ever done it. Great tips and it turns out great every day. I also bought some of the devacurl products. I have worn my hair curly every day since then. Before going in, I straightened my hair almost every day. I LOVE this place. Along with most of the posters, I also have curly hair and find it nearly impossible to find someone who really understands how to cut it. I bought a groupon, thinking I could give it a shot, and was so pleasantly surprised. Jessica gave me the perfect haircut. It hit that sweet spot between not-too-short and not-too-long, and all of my curls stay together, even when I run my fingers through them. Nearing the end of my second maternity leave, I was ready to chop off my long, thick hair. I came armed with a bunch of pictures of shoulder-length bobs. Decided to purchase a Groupon to get my haircut/styled with Rachel...big mistake!!! The haircut is probably the worst cut I've gotten in the last five years...clearly Rachel doesn't have a good technique and really went overboard when I asked her to give me a few layers. Then she blow dried my hair without a nozzle! which is the one of the first rules when giving someone a blow out. Instead of having nice long silky hair...I left the salon with a frizz ball that looked awful. I ended up going home and blow drying it myself! I will never be going back to this salon ever again. Great experience with Liz yesterday for a Deva cut and style. Liz's knowledge of curls, curl care, and in particular the Deva line is vast and she's so happy to share. I enjoyed picking her brain and she showed me that with some simple adjustments to my routine I could get my curls and waves so much more shiny and defined. It helps that Deva has come out with new products better for wavy hair but Liz really knows what she's doing. She's friendly, really listens, and really cared about finding the best solution for my 1/2 head of wavy and 1/2 head of curly hair. I prefer the cutting style of my old stylist in SF but Liz helped me so much with my routine so I'm really excited about rocking less frizzy curls. The entire staff was really friendly, the salon is small but comfortable, and prices are reasonable. If you have curly or wavy hair I highly recommend Liz! My daughter and I have been working with Liz of J&L Hair Studio for the past 6 years. Meeting her was pure serendipity! My daughter was about to head off for her first year in college, so she got her hair cut at a salon that frankly, butchered her! So, not wanting her to go off to college looking the way she did, I called the salon where Liz used to work, saying that I needed an emergency appointment with anyone, anyone at all, as this was a crisis! Luckily for us, as I know in retrospect, Liz was free at that exact time due to a cancellation, so the salon told us to come right in - and that's when we met Liz and our story began! Liz took the mess that was my daughter's hair cut and transformed it into something really beautiful. Not only did we recognize her skill, but Liz's personality really shone through - she is a kind and very compassionate person. Seeing what a great job Liz did on my daughter, I thought, wow, I am going to switch to Liz from my former salon, and I'm so glad I did! Not only is she a great stylist, but her skills with hair color are amazing; when she goes off behind the curtain to mix the agents for my foil, I think of her as a mad scientist, mixing the exact potion that is perfect! She also does a low light, or is it a high light???, and also sometimes a rinse, depending upon where we need to be with my color at the time.
