I took a van that wasn't running emissions tests (not failing- they were just showing as…read moreincomplete) after literally hundreds of miles of regular driving (on street and interstate) in to my regular mechanic. $200 later he told me I need to drive it more. For 4 days I did. I put on another 4-500 miles and made sure to follow the drive cycle test parameters as frequently as possible. I had tried to call Tilly Mill several times and got no response, so I wasn't very hopeful, but I went up there to at least talk with them. I drove up on a Monday first thing in the morning. I briefly explained the situation to Danny and how I needed the fix in by Friday. He sort of brushed off my concern, said he could definitely fix it, and to bring it in Wednesday. I didn't have any other options, so I took it in Wednesday. When I dropped it off, two other people came to get not very urgent repairs. Danny said he didn't have time for them. When one got mad and said they wouldn't come back, he said he was in this business for 30 or 40 years and business has never been bad. At that point I knew I liked him. When I dropped the car off and reiterated my need to have it done by noon on Friday he was still pretty dismissive of me. I tried calling for an update that afternoon and got a busy signal. I tried calling for an update Thursday morning. Same busy signal. I tried calling, faxing, and emailing Thursday afternoon. Busy signal and no response. Friday morning I was driving up there to get an answer and I get a call at ~8am telling me it was done and had the emissions run on it. Essentially, all my anal retentive worrying was for naught. I'm sure he has made mistakes in his years of business, but he had the confidence and straight forward attitude that made it hard not to trust him. Couple that with fair prices and even though they're a half hour away from me on a good day, they're now my go-to mechanic for bigger jobs.

After that the car AC stopped working and acting strange. Brought it back and was told to replace the entire AC system for another 5.5k. This is a debit card, not credit! He said no! My son in law had to leave work and bring me the cash! When I got home, I searched the parts cost for the year/model car I have... guess what? When I went outside after the service, I immediately noticed a lug nut was missing. After looking closer, I saw that the wheel stud itself was broken - which I know for a fact was not damaged prior to the repair. When I contacted the mechanic about it, he did not deny breaking it and asked me to go purchase a new stud and lug nut, which I did right away. He said he would return to install it, but after that point communication became very unreliable. I texted several times with no response. When he finally replied "yes" to confirm he would complete the repair, he still never followed through. Since then, my messages have gone unanswered. On top of that, he told me the broken stud was "no big deal" and that he knows someone who drives around with multiple broken studs - which was extremely concerning to hear from someone responsible for vehicle safety. I don't feel comfortable driving with a broken wheel stud, and the situation has been left unresolved. I wish this could have been a positive review, but based on the lack of accountability, poor communication, and safety concerns, it cannot be.
