Ugh. The pathetic limoncello and negroni "Swedish fish"

This review is specifically for the restaurant Christina grey. The chef was fine, but he is more of a cook than a chef. The food was (for the most part) technically prepared well, but pretty bland. And honestly, after paying $125 a ticket, I shouldn't have to feel bad asking for salt, or expecting something which chili oil, to actually taste like some spice rather than just looking like it's swimming in grease. Another fairly big complaint is that there was no "editing" from the chef, at least as far as portion control. I was full by the fourth course, which was mostly bread. While I appreciate the generosity, I don't expect full sized entrees for a seven course meal. Also, this is a weird nitpick for me because I love cider, but I felt cheated getting cider when it was a wine dinner that was advertised. This whole thing was not overly poorly executed, but just disappointing, especially when I, and my guest, feel like we way overpaid for this "experience" especially when the night started on such a sour note. The dessert was honestly the most disappointing. Jello? Really? And crumbly jello at that. Yikes. The pasta, I couldn't tell if it was homemade, but some was cooked nicely, and some was underdone. Ugh. I feel bad. The cook seemed excited and inspired, but this was just a hit and a miss. I love wine dinners! Just not this one. What really saved the rating was Dylan, the restaurant manager. She was awesome.

    Clean, attractive room.

Our room was very nice. The workmanship is top notch. It is obvious that the owners have been upgrading this 1918 historic mansion. I know people that actually came to this place when it was a YMCA many years ago and share great memories. However, I booked the room through Wyndham for $185 because of location, quality, and amenities. We were attending a family member's funeral. We planned on dining at the hotel restaurant and reminiscing in the stately bar during our stay. The night before, I received an email that the restaurant and bar would not be available due to events. Yes, the night before! Not enough time to change, nor were we emotionally strong enough to deal with this. I called to verify. The pleasant person on the other end asked for my number for the manager to call me. I never received a call. When I checked in (I didn't realize it was a manager because of her casual tank top), she confirmed there was a rehearsal dinner booked and that the restaurant and bar were not available to the "general public." I would think a customer would not be categorized general public as if I walked in off the street. She was very nice , but didn't realize she needed to call me? Why have my number? After too much back and forth (nothing confrontational, but just simply receive the customer input), she reduced my rate to $167 (so not my point) and her assistant walked us down a hallway and down a half flight of stairs to the annex building where our room was located. To put salt on the wound, the young lady explained there was an event later that evening and that we would need to walk around and outside to get to the lobby area through the main entrance since the facilities were reserved. Yes, outside by the street. Inclement weather conditions? The website and brochure boast the restaurant and upscale dining as a guest amenity. There should be a caveat 'based on availability due to special events.' It is obvious that events take precedence over hotel guests and that steps have not been taken to ensure both. Large hotels have flexibility of space and amenities, a small boutique hotel is limited but it should not be at the expense of the customer. There are too many competitors down the street to bait and switch or simply come up with solutions to the issue instead of accepting misleading marketing. We got back to the hotel that evening and walked around the small lobby looking for our complimentary wine or bottled beer. The manager was socializing behind the check-in area with her assistant and never bothered to offer assistance however a man in a nice suit named Travis was walking past and offered. Travis was working the event that had been booked but took the time to get me a glass of wine:). He was raised in the area and knew about my uncle's local restaurant but was not aware of his passing and kindly gave compliments and condolences. As far as the continental breakfast, it was very good. The staff person did a great job. Anybody giving a bad review due to a continental breakfast does not understand the meaning of continental: baked goods, jams, and coffee. They offered much more as part of the complimentary continental breakfast. I truly prefer giving five stars but management made no effort to embrace our concern. Customer satisfaction goes a long way. If ownership communicated clearly limited amenities, I would have given five stars.

Beautiful and special setting. We were looking for a great restaurant for my father's 80th birthday. We had 12 people and the service and food were excellent. Even with 12 people we could all hear each other and enjoy the gathering as if we were in a private home. Just lovely! Amazing food. Shrimp and grits are a must...best I've ever had! This was our first time with a large party...other visits have been as a nice quiet romantic dinner...never a disappointment!

I drove up to NC from GA on what was going to be a day trip, but because I got a late start, my day trip turned into an overnight stay. On short notice the staff at J.H Adams set me up with an awesome presidential suite, with accommodations fit for a king. I never take a bath in hotels, but this one I couldn't resist. . Thanks a million!

During our stay, Courtyard High Point met the standard I expected of the Courtyard brand. We stayed in Room 419 on the 4th floor (top floor). It had a king bed and a sofa bed. For four nights, I spent 82,654 United Airlines MileagePlus award miles (cleared out my account) plus $419.96. I booked through United's website / United Hotels. I found this hotel through United because I was trying to use up all my miles. As an American Express Platinum card member, I have Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status without meeting any stay requirements. That said, I didn't notice nor took advantage of any of the Gold Elite benefits. I was supposed to receive a "welcome gift of points upon arrival" (none were posted to my account, which I had linked to the reservation), late checkout up to 2pm (didn't need it), and a complimentary upgrade to an enhanced room at check-in (didn't happen); subject to availability. Standard check-in and check-out times are 3pm and 12pm, respectively. As a Gold Elite, I'm also supposed to get faster free in-room Wi-Fi. I didn't get that either. I just connected to the standard free Wi-Fi, which was fine / usable, but I would've preferred faster internet. I called the hotel ahead of time to verify details and spoke with Toni. She was wonderful. Super nice and a shining example of excellent hospitality and customer service. Courtyard High Point is lucky to have her. The other staff that we interacted with were polite and professional. Our room was very spacious. It had an unusually long and wide entry area / hallway leading to the bed and sitting area; ideal for spreading out our luggage. We had a view of the old Oak Hollow Mall and parking lot. Part of the mall we could see is now the Roy B Culler Jr Senior Center, named after the former mayor of High Point. I went to his house when I was a kid and saw his elaborate model train set, but I digress. The bathroom was spacious as well. Outstanding shower water pressure. We had a microwave, mini fridge, and Keurig machine. Unfortunately, there was no free coffee in the lobby so we had to rely on Keurig coffee each morning (not our preferred coffee). Bummer. A lot of hotels in this tier offer fresh, hot, free coffee in the lobby. Cleaning service was every other day. There was one day when I had to go downstairs and ask for more Keurig K-Cup pods. By the way, for really good coffee in High Point, I recommend DeBeen Espresso: https://www.yelp.com/biz/debeen-espresso-high-point During our stay, we went there for coffee too. The couch (sofa bed) in our room looked dingy and grossed us out a bit. I liked the bed and thought it was pretty comfy, but it wasn't the comfiest among hotel beds we've slept in recently. My wife said it was lumpy. The nightstand USB and power outlets didn't stick well, so they didn't work reliably and charge all of our devices (kind of annoying to charge a phone on the desk on the other side of the room). Overall, the room amenities were OK. According to Travel Weekly, this hotel was built in 2003 and was last renovated in 2011. https://www.travelweekly.com/Hotels/High-Point-NC/Courtyard-High-Point-p51804414 In general, from the indoor pool to the nicely landscaped outdoor seating area in the back, I thought the property looked reasonably well kept. My wife commented that it was dated and looked mid-2000s. Oak Hollow Mall officially closed on March 10, 2017 and was a shell of its former self before then. Therefore, the immediate area around the hotel is very quiet. The nearby Target is a plus. I remember when the High Point University building next door used to be a Circuit City. Since 2022, Courtyard by Marriott High Point has been a Certified Autism Center, supporting the city's "ongoing efforts as a Certified Autism Destination." https://www.instagram.com/p/DLC-Ll-PRCO/

My company puts us up at the Hampton for every Market so I've stayed here several times. The hotel staff is ALWAYS top notch, the rooms are very clean, the beds comfortable and the breakfast options are awesome! You even get a "good morning" from the wonderful kitchen staff. This particular visit bumps this place up to 6 stars in my book: 1. I had a last minute print job for a meeting in the morning that I wasn't going to be able to take care of. I explained the situation to the girl at the front desk. She took my file, printed my 70 copies and had them ready for me the next morning!! No worries! No they don't really offer business support but they do when you're in a bind. Thank you!! 2. My roommate lost her beloved diamond earring and didn't notice until she arrived home. It could have been anywhere in the town of High Point! She checked the car, the showroom and lastly called the Hampton. The front desk clerk informed her that no one had turned in an earring, nor had the cleaning staff found one in the room she had checked out of earlier that morning. Needless to say my friend was crushed. A couple of hours later, the hotel called her back. They had actually opened the vacuum bag from the vacuum used in our room and found the earring!!!! Can you believe it? Who does that!? I believe in humanity again! Hampton Inn, your staff is wonderful!! Kudos to you! See you next Market!
