During our stay, Courtyard High Point met the standard I expected of the Courtyard brand. We stayed in Room 419 on the 4th floor (top floor). It had a king bed and a sofa bed. For four nights, I spent 82,654 United Airlines MileagePlus award miles (cleared out my account) plus $419.96. I booked through United's website / United Hotels. I found this hotel through United because I was trying to use up all my miles. As an American Express Platinum card member, I have Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status without meeting any stay requirements. That said, I didn't notice nor took advantage of any of the Gold Elite benefits. I was supposed to receive a "welcome gift of points upon arrival" (none were posted to my account, which I had linked to the reservation), late checkout up to 2pm (didn't need it), and a complimentary upgrade to an enhanced room at check-in (didn't happen); subject to availability. Standard check-in and check-out times are 3pm and 12pm, respectively. As a Gold Elite, I'm also supposed to get faster free in-room Wi-Fi. I didn't get that either. I just connected to the standard free Wi-Fi, which was fine / usable, but I would've preferred faster internet. I called the hotel ahead of time to verify details and spoke with Toni. She was wonderful. Super nice and a shining example of excellent hospitality and customer service. Courtyard High Point is lucky to have her. The other staff that we interacted with were polite and professional. Our room was very spacious. It had an unusually long and wide entry area / hallway leading to the bed and sitting area; ideal for spreading out our luggage. We had a view of the old Oak Hollow Mall and parking lot. Part of the mall we could see is now the Roy B Culler Jr Senior Center, named after the former mayor of High Point. I went to his house when I was a kid and saw his elaborate model train set, but I digress. The bathroom was spacious as well. Outstanding shower water pressure. We had a microwave, mini fridge, and Keurig machine. Unfortunately, there was no free coffee in the lobby so we had to rely on Keurig coffee each morning (not our preferred coffee). Bummer. A lot of hotels in this tier offer fresh, hot, free coffee in the lobby. Cleaning service was every other day. There was one day when I had to go downstairs and ask for more Keurig K-Cup pods. By the way, for really good coffee in High Point, I recommend DeBeen Espresso: https://www.yelp.com/biz/debeen-espresso-high-point During our stay, we went there for coffee too. The couch (sofa bed) in our room looked dingy and grossed us out a bit. I liked the bed and thought it was pretty comfy, but it wasn't the comfiest among hotel beds we've slept in recently. My wife said it was lumpy. The nightstand USB and power outlets didn't stick well, so they didn't work reliably and charge all of our devices (kind of annoying to charge a phone on the desk on the other side of the room). Overall, the room amenities were OK. According to Travel Weekly, this hotel was built in 2003 and was last renovated in 2011. https://www.travelweekly.com/Hotels/High-Point-NC/Courtyard-High-Point-p51804414 In general, from the indoor pool to the nicely landscaped outdoor seating area in the back, I thought the property looked reasonably well kept. My wife commented that it was dated and looked mid-2000s. Oak Hollow Mall officially closed on March 10, 2017 and was a shell of its former self before then. Therefore, the immediate area around the hotel is very quiet. The nearby Target is a plus. I remember when the High Point University building next door used to be a Circuit City. Since 2022, Courtyard by Marriott High Point has been a Certified Autism Center, supporting the city's "ongoing efforts as a Certified Autism Destination." https://www.instagram.com/p/DLC-Ll-PRCO/

From making sure we had the welcome bags from the wedding couple to ensuring our check-in was flawless, this Courtyard was a treat for the weekend. -Beautifully decorated with great color palette. Very clean and great black out curtains! Frig in room so we could store some waters and snacks. -Very friendly and courteous staff, especially our bartender at The Bistro! It get very busy there and we never had to wait very long. -Check-out : there were two charges on my bill that did not belong to me. The front desk manager took the time to research the bill and found out that the room number looked like my number but it was a different signature so she removed the charges from my room and made sure the true owner had the charges put on their bill. It was nice to have that done on site rather than attempt to do it long distance. Much appreciated. Excellent stay and centrally located. Would highly recommend this Courtyard!

During that same stay my in-room refrigerator froze and exploded all contents. Response: shrug. I decided to give them another try a year later for a 9 night stay. I specifically asked about making changes to my reservation and was told fine, with in 24 hours. Now when I want to cut my stay by one night I was told NO. You have to pay. From the moment you walk through the door, you are welcomed by some of the friendliest, most accommodating, and genuinely lovely people imaginable. There was never a moment where they didn't go out of their way to help make our stay comfortable and memorable. Ray, especially, was exceptional. He was there every day making sure everything was perfect and continually went above and beyond to make our stay feel special and personal. The Manor itself is absolutely charming -- creative, warm, and filled with character. Everywhere you looked was a feast for the eyes, with thoughtful details and beautiful touches throughout. Now that my niece has graduated, we technically have no reason to visit High Point anymore -- but honestly, a return trip would be worth it just for another stay at the Manor. It felt less like staying somewhere and more like being part of something truly special.

Delicious chocolates greeted me upon arrival in my room, and tasty granola bars that appeared to be hand-made were provided to grab on my way out. The value is amazing and the interior is SO beautiful. For 2-person seating you're sat against a wall and the chairs are facing the interior of the room instead of straight across from each other which is more relaxing. We loved our teas and as usual the food is very filling even though it just looks like a small amount of tiny little treats! It's hard to find a good afternoon tea at this price point (actually it's the first I've ever come across) and even though it's in kind of a random area of Greensboro it's totally worth the excursion.

As I've done most of the afternoon teas available in the Triangle area, I am not branching out to the Triad. Afternoon tea at O Henry came highly recommended to me by people I know in real life and rightfully so! Afternoon tea at O Henry is served in the lobby of the hotel when you first walk in. They have clusters of seating all over, and they do get booked out so be sure to make your reservation ahead of time. For the tea, they have a few different tiers but I've always opted for the full O. Henry Tea. It's still only $22 which is such an accessible price point as I'm used to afternoon teas costing easily double! It's a hearty and proper tea, and they will refill your pot too. I can't wrap up the review without commenting on the excellent service. Every time I've come for the afternoon tea, I am impressed by the warm welcome and attentive service by all of the staff I interact with. This afternoon tea is one I will repeat time and time again!
