We weren't able to stay due to the local snow/ice storm Greensboro received over the weekend. And I forgot to cancel the reservation within the allotted time frame with everything going on. It's a nice hotel, but the amenities leave a lot to be desired. The restaurant is great but room service takes a while and both days the food wasn't hot. People go crazy over the Bistro...I don't it was good but not as great as they say BUT those crispy brussel sprouts...A-amazing!! This was very helpful as we planned our credits for a two night stay. Proximity has a industrial look and feeling with a fairytale vibe. Supe cool right! I felt sad, I felt angry, I felt lonely, and I was bored on a cold, wet Saturday. What to do - I decided to do something WE'D intended to do for quite awhile before life got in the way - book a room at this beautiful hotel, and order up Moules-frites from Room Service (the version served here is outstanding) - and UNC was playing Gonzaga at 7 PM - this might work! The room was nice, very modern in style - a loft-style King room with windows aplenty, beautiful. and spacious in a shotgun sort of way, a bathroom to take home with you, towels and all! This particular room had a shower, but no tub, which was fine, and the shower head was awesome! The bed, dubbed Magi Bed by the hotel, was indeed one of the most comfortable I've slept in, and there were pillows everywhere! There were things that were off that kept this from being a great experience. The room was on the 3rd floor across from the rear of the restaurant and the dumpster and delivery area (not much of a view obviously), and there was constant noise for most of the late afternoon and early evening. The other off note was the thermostat did not work properly or had some sort of governor on it because no matter how I adjusted the temperature upward the room never got warmer. Additionally the seating area was small, and the chair and narrow couch were far from comfortable. The room service was amazing quick, no more than 20minutes from phone order to knock on the door. The mussels were as great as ever (I got the smaller plate), as was the House Salad with Green Goddess Dressing (remember that one?). The Tuna Tarter was not in the same class, at least for my taste - more than a bit sweet, never could really taste the tuna. I also ordered the Artisanal Cheese & Charcuterie but never received it. The lady who took the order even ask if I wanted both meat and cheese, and I said I did. So, some good things, some disappointing things, but I'm glad I did it, even though it was more than a little bittersweet. read more

I really loved staying here. It reminded me a lot about the Ace Hotel in Manhattan (not that they actually have anything in common other than the general vibe of the halls as you walk through the place). Check in and out is easy and the rooms are quiet. The attached restaurant of the odd name Print Works Bistro is quite excellent as well. The only downside that you just had to take with the LEED certification was the water pressure -- as in there is not much pressure to be found in order to conserve water. Though I never used them I saw these neat cabs there and from the web site they seem to be used for: "Complimentary airport transportation to and from Greensboro PTI Airport is provided for all guests between 6 AM and 11 PM. When possible, we'll also provide transportation to nearby shopping, dining and entertainment for a fee." read more

If I could give this hotel 6 stars I would because it's just that amazing! My husband surprised my son and I with a stay cation here so I had no idea that we were going and when we arrived I am sooo happy that he did. When we first arrived you can't help but notice the outside of the hotel it's stunning! The large windows and architecture is simply amazing! I was immediately drawn to the front entrance with the white and black curtains and their old timing cars. It was beautiful! The valet guy was very pleasant. He made sure they were accommodated with parking our car and getting inside of the hotel! When I walked in the automatic spinning doors was a great impression. I had never seen anything like it! The front desk guy was really nice as well, he asked questions about our travel and just all respectful! Which made me feel really welcomed. The lobby area and downstairs area was amazing as well! On sunnier days I can see this place being phenomenal but it was raining that didn't take away from its beauty. The inside of the room was great. The high ceilings made the room seem extremely big! Our favorite feature were the doors to the bathroom. It was a mirror but opened into the sleeping, it was the perfect Height to watch a movie and be in the tub! The tub is really deep and large! The bathroom was a classic black and white with minimal decor! We had a great view from the 8th floor. The overlooked a little bit of the place that we were in. They had robes available, magazines, a spot of music and a lot of places to sit! I also loved all of the mirrors. I could go on and on about the hotel. Overall the best I have stayed in thus far. Amazing experience. I've had to opportunity to have meetings at this hotel but never got to experience the rooms upstairs. Well let me tell you, the upstairs is just as nice as the downstairs. The rooms are elegant and very modern. I was on the top floor and the rooms come with extremely high ceilings. There are large windows with drapes that hang all the way to the floor. My room came with a nice sitting area and amenities station. My favorite part of the room was the bathroom. It was huge with a large tub in shower area. I was very impressed. Ultimately, the staff are the highlight of this hotel. They are so friendly and pleasant. They really take care of you. I don't believe I got past a single employee without a greeting of some sort. This was our first trip to Greensboro and I chose Proximity based on the great reviews and beautiful pictures on the website. We arrived about noon on a Friday and couldn't find any parking in the main lot. We drove further away in the lot and found something. The man who greeted us apologized and said there was a big event there that day. The lobby is gorgeous and there's also a beautiful lower level with lots of comfy seating. I had some work to do, so I brought it down there instead of sitting in the room. We upgraded to a corner suite and I loved it. My favorite part was probably the bathroom. Stylish and lots of natural light. There was a nice chaise lounge in the bedroom. Our floor had coffee, filtered water that you could use to fill the pitcher in your room, and an honor bar with tea and soda. There was also a printer and computer. It's nice that you don't have to go down to the lobby if you need something. We are at the restaurant twice and it was excellent. I'll do a separate review on that. read more

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this hotel! Had to call the hotel when I was booking online as I was slightly confused by the room pricing. There was a "Best Available Rate" for $329/night or a "Sustainability" rate of $269/night. Ummmm... what's the difference? Would t the "best available rate BE the lower rate? Like, why would anyone purchase the higher rate if there was a lower rate, unless it came with something MORE? Well, turns out the SUSTAINABILITY rate came with more: early 2pm check-in and late 2pm check-out AND $30 credit for their restaurant, room service, movie rental, etc. Boom! My husband had tickets to see Guns and Roses and personally, I had no desire to go so I suggested he go with his friends and I could hang out in the hotel... ALONE... no (3) kids, no husband, alone! And let me tell you... it was the BEST!! The hotel is BEAUTIFUL! Our room was on the 8th (top) floor and it was stunning! Actually, under the "i" of Proximity when looking at the hotel. Loved the super high ceilings, the bathroom that opened into the living room and the great artwork and lighting. I ordered room service from their on site restaurant, Print Works Bistro. I was given a time estimate of 25-30 minutes and I was shocked when it was more like 20 minutes!! Awesome! I got a steak and frites (fries) and a cup of French Onion soup. The steak was super tender and delicious and the fries were nice and crispy. The soup was just "ok". I ate it in bed while watching TV. After dinner, I had a nice soak in the bath with some champagne. I opened the doors to the living room so I could watch TV while soaking. So relaxing! Personally, the bed wasn't the most comfortable I've slept in but it was ok. Maybe I am spoiled by our amazing $6,000 mattress at home that other ones don't feel as comfy?? My husband didn't get back from the concert until about 2am so he didn't get to enjoy the room as much as I did. We said that we'll DEFINITELY have to come back for another visit!!! I've been coming to Greensboro NC for 20 years. When I was a kid we would stay at some janky hotels in high point NC because that's where our convention is 2 times a year. My father found this hotel a while back, I want to say about 6 years ago and I have not stayed anywhere else ever since. I know it's owned by the O HENRY down the street but I love this hotel. It's clean, breakfast is amazing downstairs, service is great. Parking is easy. During summer when I'm there the parking is always packed! And the restaurant and bar downstairs is even more packed. I love that type of environment there. The rooms are amazing. Enough for 1 or 2 people. There are many great amenities near by if you need anything. Whole Foods down the street. Cheese cake factory. Ruth Chris. Everything. The rooms have nice views of a lake and It's Greensboro, everything is green around you and it's amazing. I whale recommended this hotel to a friend and he stayed there a few times and said verbatim "this place is beautifuuuuullllll" his name is Justin. Recommend this place EVERY SINGLE TIME read more

Proximity puts the "green" in Greensboro. This is my favorite place to stay when I'm in town. There's plenty of parking, and the hotel is modern, clean, chic but not too fussy and frilly. But what I love most about this hotel is that it's a totally "green" hotel, without it infringing upon the customer's lux experiences. It's LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) with over 70 different sustainable practices exercised both in development and daily execution. It's also always very peaceful. I never hear a ton of noise from other guests or lively activity in the common areas, so if you're looking for a little serenity I think you'll find it here. (Although, I've never stayed her over the weekend.) Depending on the seasonal rates and what you're looking to spend, I'd definitely suggest getting a room with the spa bath if you're looking for a little extra space and relaxation. The bathrooms are beautiful and the tubs deep, with a nice little window that looks out onto the the rest of the room. Seems as though the rates have gone up a bit compared to when I first started staying here, but I can often find deals so still always make the attempt to book. I prefer Proximity just a bit more than the O'Henry just because I love the modern design, but would otherwise rate them comparably. However, you cant really go wrong with either hotel. read more

The 2 best adjectives you can use here are quiet and comfortable. It's a no frills escape for a more mature couple, or a nice venue to conduct a business conference. This is not a kid's hotel, which I like because it helps keep things quiet. Activities such as dinner and jazz are more directed towards an older, upper middle class couple like my parents. Younger couples may find it a bit boring. I've dined many times at the Bistro, which is a ok. Our room was spacious and the bed was comfortable. All in all, it's a very nice setting, and a great part of Greensboro. If you just want a place to relax and are far less concerned with having to engage in lots of different activities, then this is a perfect place. read more

Rooms service took twice as long as quoted (after me calling twice to check in). No apology. The woman working on the phone said my meal would be comped and it wasn't. I had also asked them to deliver a steamer to my room at 8 am on Saturday. 8:45 came and went and no steamer to be seen. I've stayed here twice for work trips and I absolutely love it. The individuals staffing both the hotel and the restaurant are absolutely incredible--just really lovely people. The rooms are gorgeous and well kept, and the beds are incredibly comfy. And as a bonus, you have an incredible restaurant downstairs--excellent (and knowledgeable) waitstaff, tasty drinks, and delicious food. OMG! The first PLATINUM LEED Certified hotel in the US!!! Do I need to say more...cause I will! From Mr. Jenkins (the van driver) to the front desk, the staff here is UNBELIEVABLY friendly and knowledgeable! Everyone is so proud to work there and they all give the best handshakes (seriously, they must practice handshaking). The lobby is comfortable, bright (during the day) and smells so fresh. The room was not the biggest, but the wall of windows and layout made the room feel twice as big. Personally, I prefer small rooms that maximize the space and Proximity has done just that. This is the first hotel I've seen where they have a business center/sitting area/honor bar on every floor - such a good idea! I could go on and on about this place, but I really don't want to rob anyone of the experience of getting to hear about it from one of the staff members. Greensboro, you have NO idea how lucky you are to be able to claim this hotel. Stayed at Proximity over Valentine's Day weekend and it did not disappoint! I love the industrial, modern, but still cozy vibe of the place. The room we stayed in was pretty spacious and had a ton of seating options. The bed was comfortable although I always hope for a big fluffy comforter which they did not have. On to that bathroom! The tub was awesome. It was super deep and filled up really quickly. I also loved that the tub wall opened up so you could relax in the tub while watching TV. The bath products are Aveda which is always a plus, although I do wish they included bubble bath in the lineup as well. Room service took about 50 minutes for breakfast. Which I guess is to be expected on a Sunday morning. The food is from the bistro so you know it will arrive pretty tasty. Would love to have a staycation here again! read more

The reviews here are not exaggerated; The Proximity is a really nice hotel. But guests should be warned that the water pressure is extremely low throughout the hotel. Water from the bathroom faucet is a mere trickle. The shower drips about two gallons a minute (at most). A five minute shower anywhere else takes about 15 minutes at the Proximity. I'm not sure the shower really saves that much water, but apparently it makes some people feel better. Not me. If I'm paying a $$$ rate, I want water pressure included. read more

I have same one under hotel as well: From the moment you walk in to the hotel to the time you enter your room, the decor is elegant, relaxing, classy, clean- simply lovely. A beautiful double spiral staircase in the lobby and gorgeous furniture and light fixtures throughout. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. The fitness center is large enough to get a good workout in with plenty of cardio machines and some free weights, it looks out to the gorgeous pool that is open to the outdoors. I wish I would've packed a bathing suit! The rooms are spacious and have a great layout! Beds are extremely comfortable, the bathroom is pretty much my dream bathroom with a nice size tub inside inside the walkin shower. The shower handle is on the opposite side from the shower head (duh! How all showers should be so you can hear water up without getting soaked with cold water first). Aveda products. My restaurant experience at the Printworks bistro was perfect. I don't use the word "perfect" often when describing food. The service was great; the drinks and food were freshly made and delicious; the atmosphere and ambiance was romantic, relaxed, upscale (yet casual) all in one. My mixed green salad was the freshest salad I've had in years (no joke), my Grilled Salmon was flavorful and exactly cooked the way I love- seared just enough on the outside to provide that delicious crunch and flavor. So stinkin' good! Dessert was the Affogato - housemade vanilla ice cream with a shot of espresso and French Almond Macaroons. I'll give it up for the ice cream and espresso. Being that I just went to France for the first time two months ago, the Macaroons had no competition but still good for being here in America. Overall this is my favorite boutique hotel to date and I cover 1/4 of the country for work so I get to see all kinds of hotels. This is by far the most friendly, elegant and economically friendly hotel I've stayed at. Yes, this boutique hotel is number one in America for being green! Major plus. Got into my room and I was absolutely in love. I was on the 7th floor and it was so spacious and clean and comforting, one of the best nights of sleep I've gotten in a while with the comfortable bed. Only thing I wasnt crazy about was that it only had a stand up shower. However, on the day I was set to leave, I checked out but later on, my flight was canceled so I booked one more night and this new room had a tub which I was super excited about. I ordered room service and it came quickly, I ate the delicious burger from the Print Works Bistro, a chocolate cake and ordered a white wine. I filled the tub up and played music as I drank my wine and had a relaxing night. I'll definitely be staying here anytime I need to come to Greensboro. read more

I expected better from Proximity. Our issues begun at check-in. We arrived, bags in hand, at the front desk. I gave the clerk my name, as I had arranged our reservation. After spelling my name twice, I handed her my driver's license to check her records. "No," she told me, "I don't have a reservation in this name." I showed her my confirmation email, detailing that I'd paid in advance. "This isn't a confirmation," she said, even though it had a confirmation number and my receipt. After several minutes of back-and-forth, she asked for my boyfriend's name, as I had listed him as my guest. Bingo -- she found it. Even though I had set up the reservation and paid, my name was nowhere to be found. We arrived around 4pm and left before noon the next day, and at no point did we ever see another guest in the hotel. The place was silent. It made for a peaceful night, but it didn't instill confidence that we'd picked a great spot. Getting ready for bed around midnight, the light in our bathroom burnt out. Being so late and feeling exhausted from our day, we didn't find it worth the trouble to alert anyone in the middle of the night. We used our phones to get around. Before turning in for the night, we drew all the curtains and prepared to sleep in the next day. No such luck, as the clock in our room blared the alarm at 6am. It's worth nothing that it's not your typical beeping, droning alarm sound; it's more like a siren. Not a great way to start your Sunday morning. Around 9am, when we started to show signs of life, I was getting out of the shower and heard knocking on the door. "Occupied," I called out. More knocking. "We're still in here," I said. Still the knocking. I opened the door, and the housekeeper on the other side said, "oh, sorry." Proximity did have its good features. Parking is easy and free. Our room was well-appointed and had a pretty cool layout; much different than your standard hotel room. The windows were huge and let in beautiful natural light in the morning. The hotel had its moments. All in all, I don't feel that we received value in proportion to the price tag. If I had known we were going to have such an unfortunate experience, I would have booked a cheaper room closer to our event. I thought a stay at one of Greensboro's nicest hotels would feel luxurious, but our experience fell short. read more

This hotel, hands down, is the most luxurious, magical place I've ever been to. The design is simplistic/minimalist, but extremely classy. They are a "green hotel" and practice sustainability. The room service is pricey, but awesome. The truffle fries and shrimp risotto were perfect; I never knew food could taste so good. Their menu is small and changes depending on what's in season.
