Checked out a few in town but I liked the non competitive atmosphere here. Jane (the owner) is the most personable manager you'd ever want to meet. The motto is that everyone is a star (and at the end of the year everyone gets a medal). Some kids do get trophies but not for competition reasons. They have programs for all level kids and everyone regardless of age, ambition, ability or socioeconomic level is treated equally. My daughter has been in intensive ballet for four years now and is in her second year of toe. She's given the drive and push she needs to succeed without creating an environment similar to certain reality show nightmares. She's worked her way onto performance team. It's something she's wanted since 2nd grade and she's happiest when she's there. She's just finished her second year on team. She is happiest when she's with her PT gang. If you want your child to enjoy himself/herself I suggest you go there. Everyone is equal and Jane and her daughter Meghan are available almost 24/7 via phone, email, txt, FB chat -- the only thing I haven't personally tried is FaceTime but I suspect if I needed to they'd make it happen (everyone deserves some down time). These ladies truly care about the whole student. What matters is that the focus isn't solely on how they dance. Taking the personal feelings of each student into account is part of the corner stone of what they hold near & dear to their teaching philosophy. Ms. Katelyn McMahon, the director of the ballet program, is very knowledgable and trustworthy. She is hard on her students but truly wants the best for them, and pushes them to succeed. Not only is she an outstanding ballet teacher she is also incredibly knowledgable about dance related injuries and physical therapy. I can not stress enough how much of an amazing person and teacher she is. She truly goes above and beyond. Jane, the owner, and her daughter Meghan, an assistant director, know each student individually and always makes sure all students feel welcome. I would feel comfortable talking to them about dance and non-dance related issues. Overall, after attending another dance school for a few years where I felt unwanted, I feel truly blessed to have come across CPA, when I was looking for a new dance school. The ballet intensive program is truly an intensive, complete with levels, auditions, end of year evaulations and teacher/parent conferences. We when to Virginia Beach and won. When I got a little bit older I started to notice that she was separating the group. She was looking for a certain kind of girl, certain shape. My mom didn't believe me but I knew soon as her daughter left I was off The competitive team. She doesn't like the parents to watch the kids while they practice. So parents sit in separate area. Also when I was a kid The other parents and my mother would have him sew all the costumes. I left the team and went to a different dance company nice one more friendly one and one that excepted different size body. Any way i used to tell people I was part of the Chippendale's Dance Group, they laughed because they thought it was part of this strip group. Lol

The pros -- it's a professional place. You contract every season for either 30, 45, or 60 sessions…read moreper week (with some leeway), and every quarter you decide if you want to re-up. The teachers have some talent as well. Most have a background in teaching in addition to music, and that helps them relate to their pupils. You will also get email updates for each session to note what had been covered and the progress being made by the pupil. Now the cons -- it's in business to make money, but it's also more profit driven than any music organization or music instructor I've previously encountered. If an instructor needs to reschedule, then a session is rescheduled -- there isn't a credit issued back on your tuition. That's OK when it's once every two or three months, but it becomes a problem when your instructor has to reschedule MULTIPLE sessions into the same week to make their commitments up prior to the end of the quarter -- since the pupil will not have enough time between sessions to process what's being shared in the sessions and maximize their benefit. If you have a background in music, be it instrument or voice, you understand the benefit of practice in between sessions. That opportunity is not a strength of this particular organization, and unfortunately it happened several times in our association with this organization. In addition, most emails I had received as to my child's lesson and progress were emailed to me DURING the lesson. That's time that should be spent on instruction. I would say that for the beginner OR for a young person who's just looking to have fun, this may be a decent choice. However, most may be better off doing what we did -- to look for music instruction from individual teachers or smaller organizations in the community to make sure their child gets the most out of a musical instruction experience.
