Donna taught me throughout college at Saint Marys, and I see her still. I HIGHLY reccomend her. I love that she doesn't just focus on technique, but also artistic delivery for the classical singer. It is too often that we hear a beautiful classical voice, but don't see the story behind the piece. Donna encourages the singer to look at the entire picture (that isn't to say she's lax on technique ;). With her own performance career and educational background, that woman has a toolbox for technique thats a mile wide). It's telling that people seek her out while preparing for important auditions, graduate school, or continue under her mentorship after they become teachers themselves (as is my own personal case). I worked with Donna quite a few years ago now, but I consider her a vital and special part of my musical education. She is a fun, funny, passionate, wonderful teacher who really really cares about her students' progress, and who sees the beauty in every voice. I needed a teacher to work independently with in order to get into grad school, and had tried a couple people with limited success--they had me singing uncomfortable rep, or I didn't feel like I could share my real sound with them. But Donna was so encouraging and accepting, and she made singing really fun while still working hard with me. She also helped me find auditions (my first paying opera gig was from an audition she got me) and opportunities for performance. And she understood my voice. Because of her I was able to go to SFCM and because of SFCM I was able to go to Music Academy and because of Music Academy I was able to go to the Lindemann program, and it really started with Donna being willing to believe in me and help me like I needed--with her technique and also with her warmth and joy in singing, and joy in the singing of her students. read more
