The Regent is a charming neighborhood theater that hosts a variety of shows. It's small but has comfortable seats and a balcony. (pre-Covid-19 experience) A performance of Silent No More brought me back to the Regent Theatre in Arlington one Saturday evening. It was a live performance with both live caption and in person sign language translation and some video playback. Ten members of the deaf community shared with us a bit of their lives and in so doing, brought some color to the grey - the mystical world of those who straddle the worlds of the Deaf who sign and the deaf speak and perhaps hear with the assistance of cochlear implants. The Regents Theatre is a small older theater that shows both movies and live performances. There's a parking lot an easy walk away, but both that and the local metered streets are pay till 8pm Monday - Saturday. Refreshments are available for sale, but cash only. The ladies room found in the back of the theater has two tiny stalls that are better without your winter coat and purse. The men's room is located upstairs at the back of the balcony. However, there is one handicap accessible individual bathroom through the doorway at the other end of the back of the theater. read more

Great theatre with a vibrant energy and wonderful performances! The venue is intimate with high-quality accommodation, including comfortable seats, bar offering and snacks. The sound and lighting quality is excellent and truly enhanced the viewing experience. I came for an exclusive performance by the Cowgills and had a blast. The service and workers are also very nice. Lastly the theater is handicap accessible which I thought was considerate. The selection of drinks was plentiful with wines, cocktails and soft drinks. I found a parking space right in front of the theater. There is parking on the street as well as a public lot available. Every seat in the house has a fabulous view of the stage. I'm a big fan of the Regent Theater. I've seen a few rock concerts here (Ultrasonic Rock Orchestra puts on an amazing show) and an acapella performance as well. Yes, the theater does feel old, but the acoustics are good and the concert tickets and refreshments are reasonably priced. There's room to dance at your seat without hitting the person seated next to you. They have a beer & wine license so you can get a drink if you'd like, and they sell movie theater type snacks of popcorn, candy, and soda too. I recommend concerts at the Regent Theater. read more

Hats off to a theater clearly pumping a constant dose of culture into this town. I went to a benefit concert here, with performers Chris Smither, Jorma Kaukonen, and Patty Larkin raising money for Half the Sky--an organization providing support to Chinese orphans/orphanages. I agree with other reviewers that there doesn't seem to be a bad seat in the house. Staff were enthusiastic: I liked the personal welcome at the beginning of the show because it made it feel much more intimate a gathering. They sell coffee at the concession stand which wasn't half bad, and was desperately needed/appreciated. I'd enjoy seeing other performances and movies here. read more

The theatre is quaint if you want to put it nicely. Rundown might be a better word. I think there is a way to balance the past (antique seats in the theater) and still modernize (um, update the potty rooms please) and the Regent has yet to reach this harmony. Or maybe the aren't trying. I was very bummed about having to walk up a crapton of stairs to use the facilities (we were there early and the ticket lady wouldn't let me use the one in the theatre) and then shocked when, upon sitting on the throne, my feet stuck out from under the stall door a good 10 inches. There was a sign about being kind to old plumbing or some bs like that. The show was good, lighting, sound, etc. A little musty inside but like I said, antique. read more

It's the only place around here that ever plays concert movies, which, regardless of how great you think your surround sound and big TV are, are supposed to be seen on a BIG screen. Because they actually have live music performances there as well, the sound system for these movies is excellent, and when The Who are blaring at you thirty feet high, the shake surely loosens every bolt in the seats. Neat spot, two things though...the people running the place seriously need to re-think the placement of the uncomfortable removable seats on the left front orchestra! $65.00 to sit in what looks like a 1970s era kitchen chair is a disgrace! Second, the bartender needs to lighten up. My wife and I arrived early and the woman checking tickets pointed out that the theater was not yet open but that we could go to the bar. So we did, I will have a glass of whatever you're serving for red wine was met with "you're not supposed to be in here yet" with a look on his face like it somehow mattered that we were there 5 minutes too early. A little gem of a theatre! I love the Regent. I have seen several shows there. It is traditional proscenium setup with orchestra and balcony seating. Personally I enjoy sitting in the balcony. The theatre is small enough that there is not really a bad seat in the house. The staff is friendly and accommodating. They offer a great variety of shows at affordable prices. The Regent is conveniently located with plenty of parking which make is a great choice for a night out of entertainment. They also partner with many local restaurants for deals and various discounts when you show your ticket which makes dinner and a show a delightful option. This is a great little community theater. Not fancy and a little outdated, but has a lot of charm. They have a lot of cool events here, reasonable prices, and for some events, you can get beer and wine. A lot of their shows have discount tickets on Goldstar and Bostix. It's easy to get to and there is a parking lot down the block that is easy to find a space if you go a little early. There are lots of restaurants in the area to go before the show. It's a small venue, so all the seats are good as long you don't get a really tall person or lady with super-teased out hair directly in front of you. read more

I'm very disappointed in the policies and management of this theater. I purchased two tickets for Jesus Christ Superstar for the April 4 event in 2020. Well, obviously, that didn't happen. However, I received an email advising that I should hold onto my ticket because the event was being rescheduled for April 4, 2021. That event never happened either. We never got cancellations, the event just didn't happen. Now, I've contacted the theater on multiple occasions to find out about a refund and they have not had the decency to even respond to my communications. I would never again purchase tickets to see anything at this venue. Very poor practices. I will now be filing a small claims action -- they will be required by law to respond to that. read more

Went here back in June 2010 to see a screening of "Beyond the Lighted Stage" Very old school theater. The seat rows are not very sloped so you're screwed if the person sitting in front of you is at least as tall or taller than you. Cheap tickets tho for a special movie screening type event ($10/ea). Lots of choices for dinner beforehand very nearby which is a plus. I would not come back here just to see a regular old movie tho. read more

Very similar to the Somerville theater, only without the owls (sad). The other afternoon, I went to a concert here and was quite pleased with this theater. Cheap food that you could bring into the seats with you, mostly comfortable seats, and low prices for a fairly popular musician. I don't like their bathrooms...the lines for both were way too long. My adult friends and I vetted this place to see if it's appropriate to bring her friend's kids and our nephew and nieces on an outing here since this venue hosts a myriad of events and sing-a-longs. Since this was our first time coming here, we had no idea what would happen during an interactive event with the Mary Poppins movie. Since this is a community supported venue, they had two individuals represent their catholic school introducing the event, but here's when I first started getting uncomfortable. They asked people (who were dressed up like the Mary Poppins characters to go on stage), these two individuals interviewed everyone aside from the only minority who was present on stage. My friend ran up to the young lady to tell her she forgot to ask the chimney sweeper about his name, but the young lady scoffed at my friend (while on stage!) I can see if they only had time to interview 2/6 people on stage, but it's just weird how they ignored the only minority who had the courage to go up on stage to show his outfit. Especially if the young lady came from a catholic school ( I am catholic as well) they should have more etiquette and manners to decipher how badly that reflects on minority kids in the audience. Since Arlington has a large Asian American population, this is disheartening to see! Just sad! I was going to talk to management afterwards, but it was too crowded with kids and their parents as the next showing was right after the event. To back up the other reviews, Yes-Francine is Rude! She should smile more! Especially if you are working with kids and within a community hosting this event on social media for all of MASS to come and see. If management is reading this, maybe there were other reasons why this ONE individual was left out....however my friend who happens to be in her 60's should not be shunned by trying to stand up for this one minority who was blatantly ignored. Oh, for the film... they give you a tambourine, spoon, a tuppence and a little cup. The original presenter should have just introduced the movie, because he was delightful and seemed kind. It was overall an ok experience, but I could have rented a movie and sang along at home instead of having to witness that experience. Now, I completely think different of Arlington! read more

Seats are comfy compared to theaters of the same age downtown. And there isn't a bad seat in the house. Beer and wine for 6 and 7 dollars, respectively. Good options, too. Rogue Dead Guy, Sierra Nevada and Newcastle that is the same price as the Bud. And you don't have to pound it in the lobby. ))))FUorpheum(((( Hot popcorn and candy that you can eat at your seat like an adult. Staff was jovial and appreciative of patrons. I never heard a negative interaction and they were pleasant and helpful. Dancers were allowed to dance up front and in the rows. Sound was great. Parking in a town lot just steps away that is 50 cents an hour til 8 pm. The only down side, and reason this isn't 5 stars, is that the bathrooms need remodeling desperately. The ladies room has 2 stalls and you WILL crash your knees against the door. I am 5'8 and the door hit my knees. But they had lovely Meyer's soap, so that was nice. My boyfriend said the men's room smelled badly of urine. They have an agreement with a few restaurants in the area where you get a discount by showing your theater tickets. Thats nice. I came to the Regent for Spike & Mike's Animated Film Fest. The sound was horrible. Tweeters so loud and shrill it was piercing. Woofers pretty rumbly at times. That being said, I'd still go back here for the right event. read more

I've been to the Regent two weeks in a row for the family friendly show series on Saturday mornings. The staff is super nice and very community oriented. We plan to attend a school fundraiser there this weekend. The only con is that there is no heat/hot water in the bathrooms and on a winter day, it is a bracing experience! read more

Just like an old high school can provide a superb education - as long as the teacher in front of them is engaged and thoughtful, an old theater can provide superb entertainment - based on the quality of the performers. The Regent provides ample opportunity to witness superb entertainment! I attend about a dozen performances a year - for the entertainment, not the size of the popcorn bucket or the lighting in the aisles. While I also enjoy the Melody Tent and similar small venues, there's something about The Regent that makes most performances a special, memorable event. My favorite event is whatever URO is performing! Rocking and dancing to their music is the closest I get to aerobic exercise! Thank you, Regent, for doing what you do so well! read more

Way over priced, uncomfortable, we were freezing ( in April) Then after spending too much money on the tickets to front and center, they make an announcement everyone can have an upgrade and move up- because they theater was practically empty! ( about 20 people total). The play we saw was horrible as well, but that was only the theaters poor choice to book them. I would not go back to this theater, for the prices they charge (especially for a 1.25 hr play) might as well go to Boston or some other local neighborhood theater. waste of money. read more

What a great place! Live entertainment in a large movie theater with a big stage. Saturday family fun days are well worth the price and as the same performers come back next year, you can learn their songs and sing along next time. Besides singers, there are also acrobats, magicians, and more. They also host many local productions by Arlington groups and are very supportive. What fun to sing along to movies such as the Wizard of Oz and score a goody bag with green tinted glasses for when you get to Oz! They do other singalongs as well. I haven't been to the many musical events but there seems to be a lot of impersonation acts such as Elvis, Beatlejuice, Frank Sinatra and Barbara Streisand, etc. read more

My seat, second row on the island was so old and worn out that it slanted forward and I was physically unable to sit in it. When I confronted the box office personnel, he acted so surprised. How would it be possible that no one before me complained about this, yet they keep selling tickets ( premium price ) for this seat. Went to the Regent Theater in Arlington this weekend for a show that was titled "A Tribute to Frank Sinatra". There was not one Frank Sinatra song until 50 minutes into the show. When I went up to the ticket booth to ask when the Frank Sinatra songs were going to start, I was told by Glen the ticket booth person "He didn't know, but I could walk up to the stage and interrupt the show and ask the conductor what time the Frank Sinatra songs were going to start". Like that is some real answer. Rude and obnoxious attitude. I guess that was the best he could do, considering his importance there. I will never go back. They should never treat their customers who choose to support a small community theater in town. They will be closing soon, if that is the way they treat people in the future. Also telling all my friends how they treat people and not to go there, so I hope it was worth it Glen! I saw the Sound of Music Sing-a-long, they have it every winter around Christmas time. Always wanted to see it. This year I finally made it! It was so much fun! RUN, DON'T WALK... away from this awful and not at all funny show. If I had to rate it I would give it one star for the performers showing up for this embarrassing mess. Very few real laughs...I can honestly say really laughed just once and thought the joke was only fairly funny. The rest is rehashed, stale and well beyond the fresh if sold by date. This show should never be produced and offered to the public in this day and age. The prices were outrageously overpriced...$65.00 for each ticket? Seriously? $15.00 is more like it. I believe any high school could put on a better show. Aside from the unfunny material, community theater actors who are just not naturally funny people delivered the lines. thank you thank you very much! i have written to you before and have been dying to see leo days - i saw him brief appearance years ago and then of course he was in the elvis show in vegas but alas you brought him back last weekend. he is the best ever! this kid really puts on a show and i wa so happy to buy a picture and cd have him sign in tell him how i met elvis and gave him a kiss. i hope you will bring him back in the future - truly an oustanding entertainer. he is the real tribute to elvis. i only wish he had a bigger crowd friday evening i feel if it was on a saturday he would have drawn more. i would always go back to see him if you do book him at the regent theatre. you must be getting feed back from other elvis fans commenting on the tremendous show this young boy put on. i truly wish him the best in the future - he is the real thing. thank you again for a wonderful evening remembering the king the way he looked - thin and young. dolores and janet from brighton ma. read more
