Went to the theater for the first time, loved the old school feel of the lobby, advertisements, and theaters! The red seats, walls, and lighting in the theater stood out. Fresh popcorn and drinks, very easy parking in the lot by the theater, looking forward to coming back!

We spontaneously decided to see the Sinners movie in 70mm at this theater on a rainy Saturday afternoon. As other Yelpers mentioned, the interior of this theater is gorgeous with surprisingly comfortable seating. It was packed but we were able to sit two and two in consecutive rows. I can definitely say the experience exceeded my expectations.

The Coolidge is a stunning old theater with modern ammenities! This place is full of character in the best way. I always bring my family here to see oldies, cult classics, and special showings you won't find anywhere else! It's a wonderful opportunity to see films I'd otherwise never hear about, and a fun way to introduce my daughter to the movies I saw in theaters when I was her age! Their special 70 mm screenings are also such a treat! Coolidge Corner's dedication to community engagement and support is truly admirable! They have community education programs, free outdoor public screenings over the summer, and they have Card to Culture discounted tickets for low income guests! They really embody what movie theaters should be; a glowing community hub welcome to all, and looking to give back to the community it serves. Also, my daughter got such a kick out of this sign they had up during their anime film fest!

Beautiful theatre! Lots of reruns of classic cinema that you need to watch in theatre to experience that big screen feeling.

I have an enduring love for older movie theaters. Palaces, really, places built for a time when going to see a movie was an event. There were thousands and thousands built when film was emerging as a storytelling medium. Lion and I were in Boston for a long weekend, volunteering for a nearby Overnight Walk to raise funds supporting suicide prevention research and education. We had some time before our check in and saw that the Coolidge Corner Theater was a few blocks walk away from the Air BnB we rented. it was a lovely morning so we set off to check it out. The theater is located among a small shopping area with restaurants and stores. It's in a very walkable area, and there's also street and lot parking available. To go in is a little unusual, they've rented part of the space of the original theater to a pizza shop, so you go around the side to the box office. We didn't have enough time to see a film, however they were very cool people who allowed us to wander around and check out the spectacular restorations that they've done - as long as there was no active movie showing. Explore we did, and it was a real treat. I especially appreciated the consistency of the restoration, they really worked to preserve and improve/add in keeping with the style of the historical period. I snagged a fun shirt for the NMT at their concessions before heading out, we needed to get back so we could get to our event. I was a bit sad to go. Highly recommend.

This place is terrible. They had a problem with the theater but wouldn't even try to show film. No refunds given. Awful experience!

The staff have always been friendly and the food is good and has always been fresh. They also have a membership program, where for a flat rate you can see as many movies as you like (*special engagements not included). Fully worth it. Especially if you're someone who enjoys the art of filmmaking beyond the revolving door of "Dwayne The Rock Johnson jumps out of an explosion" movies that first run theatres consistently play. Lots of classics, as well as modern movies. Definitely my favorite theatre in the city.

My friend and I went to see the matinee showing of An American Tail: Fievel Goes West on an original 35mm borrowed by RISD (which I thought was pretty cool). Forgive the blasphemy but the theater does give off high school auditorium vibes: I wish there was a bit more of an incline for the seats further back and the seats themselves are not super comfortable. There is a balcony, however, that I might check out next time. Convenient location with lots of great restaurants around for a pre-/post-show meal or drink. Parking is tricky but only if you're coming from the direction of JFK Street (avoid if possible). Use Mt Auburn Street instead - more parking options and a lot less traffic. 2-hr meter options only and the ticketing is aggressive. If you're here for a movie and a show, definitely recommend moving your car at some point to avoid a ticket.

But if by some off chance you haven't gone yet, do yourself a favor and check out their schedule. You will not be disappointed. Growing up and spending time in the Boston area when I was younger, the HFA was one of my most prized past times. With plenty of time on my hands and wallet conscious as I was, I frequently attended their great selection of independent and foreign cinema. Now that I'm temporarily located in the area again, I've made a point to periodically check their schedules to see what's on the agenda. I've already had the chance to see an Agnes Varda screening with in-person speaking by the most amazing filmmaker herself (my second time seeing her at the HFA) and "The Champion", a brilliant mid-century Japanese film. The price is still right at the HFA, a mere $9 for most screenings. The only downside is that it's cash only and you can't buy tickets in advance. I basically never have cash on me, and am a planner that enjoys the convenience of buying ahead, but it's worth the slight inconvenience to attend their films.

A few weeks ago, I caught the silent version of Hirchcock's "Blackmail." A director of the Archive said a few very witty words about the Hitchcock film series. I loved that personal touch. The most amazing part was not the film, but the live pianist, Martin Marks, who provided the score for 70+ minutes. Like I said, it's all about the experience, & the theater makes it a special night out. No eating in the theater/no concession. I didn't have to pay admission, just had to flash my handy dandy school ID (that puppy has saves me countless dollars.)
