Another great movie experience here with a Studio Ghibli favorite- My friend Totoro!! This was in theater 1 on the ground level- very beautiful theater with the red stage drapes and the design on the ceiling. This is a large theater too. It's open seating so you have to get there a bit early so you can choose your seats. The visual and sound all were great! We enjoyed the film! This time we Ubered there but have driven there too and managed to find street parking nearby - both times on Sunday afternoon. Will be back to watch other classics! read more

As other Yelpers mentioned, the interior of this theater is gorgeous with surprisingly comfortable seating. It was packed but we were able to sit two and two in consecutive rows. I always bring my family here to see oldies, cult classics, and special showings you won't find anywhere else! I have loved this theatre in the past. We just saw"The Testament of Ann Lee" in MovieHouse 1,and the previews were REALLY LOUD. I actually went out to the ticket taker to inquire about the noise level. It didn't abate for the movie itself, I again went out to inquire. It was loud the whole time. I have to seriously consider whether or not I'm going to see another movie here; it was egregiously loud. I covered my ears the whole time. read more

I've had the chance to visit the theater both during the day and at night. At night, you can enter through the closest entrance to the street, but during the day, you'll need to use the back entrance near the parking lot. I came here to watch a movie that is projected in a specific format, and Coolidge (along with another theater in Somerville) is one of the only places nearby that are equipped to do that. The screening room itself was stunning, with elegant gold Renaissance-inspired decor. The seating arrangement reminded me of traditional theaters for live plays. The entire movie experience was just amazing. The sound was crystal clear, the projection was perfect, and the atmosphere--along with the kind of crowd this theater attracts--was ideal. -- I'll definitely be coming back! read more

Was visiting from Los Angeles where I go to revival theatres multiple times per week - usually The New Beverly Cinema and Brain Dead Studios. This place was definitely in line with both. Historic building, great schedule, fun merch (if it's in stock), and concessions that include a decent beer menu. I wasn't able to see if there are other revivals theatre options in Boston, so I'm not sure what the competitive landscape is like. But it's definitely a place I'd return to for another midnight screening. read more

Brookline is a special town and The Coolidge Corner Theater is one of it's beloved treasures. If it were located in Boston developers would have demolished it and the S.S. Pierce building in favor a modern condo block. I have an enduring love for older movie theaters. Palaces, really, places built for a time when going to see a movie was an event. There were thousands and thousands built when film was emerging as a storytelling medium. Lion and I were in Boston for a long weekend, volunteering for a nearby Overnight Walk to raise funds supporting suicide prevention research and education. We had some time before our check in and saw that the Coolidge Corner Theater was a few blocks walk away from the Air BnB we rented. it was a lovely morning so we set off to check it out. The theater is located among a small shopping area with restaurants and stores. It's in a very walkable area, and there's also street and lot parking available. To go in is a little unusual, they've rented part of the space of the original theater to a pizza shop, so you go around the side to the box office. We didn't have enough time to see a film, however they were very cool people who allowed us to wander around and check out the spectacular restorations that they've done - as long as there was no active movie showing. Explore we did, and it was a real treat. I especially appreciated the consistency of the restoration, they really worked to preserve and improve/add in keeping with the style of the historical period. I snagged a fun shirt for the NMT at their concessions before heading out, we needed to get back so we could get to our event. I was a bit sad to go. Highly recommend. read more

i've heard so much about this theatre and i am so glad i finally got to see it! coolidge corner theatre is one of two theatres in the boston area that's showing bottoms (limited release) and i am soooo glad we went here! this theatre is a nonprofit, so even though their prices are not necessarily budget-friendly (about 18$ with taxes per adult ticket), you definitely feel better about supporting their cause versus a giant chain. they also have a multi-tiered membership program that can score you free or reduced fare tickets, 20% in concessions/bar, and exclusive access to members-only events. you can even get a student discount on their base plan! the theatre has a vintage feel, especially during the credits close to the start of the film, when they start playing old-timey animations. i also recommending buying your tickets for pick up at will call (free) so you can have a keepsake of your visit! if you're on the green C line, it's a straight shot to the theatre, which makes it even better for commuters, and is right in the heart of coolidge corner's shopping and restaurants! read more

Warning: I'm going to sound like such a snob here but I have to be honest. I'm not crazy about this movie theater. I'll preface by saying: - I love what they're doing in the community. - I love that it has an old school aesthetic - I love that it's an independent theater. It's VERY much needed. - I've only been once. I saw the film 'Dont Worry Darling' which is beautifully shot but it was playing in such a small theater that I didn't feel like I got the best possible experience. I don't like paying $15 to see a movie on a 300 inch screen with basic sound quality with a sold out crowd of 30 people. It's just not for me. I want to see a movie on screen that is 65 feet wide that I can't afford with premium sound quality. I understand they have bigger rooms, but the room that my movie was showing was super small and left me feeling disappointed. I'm excited to know they're remodeling and I look forward to seeing what improvements they make. I feel like the smaller rooms should be for classes, older films, private screenings, film festivals, etc... Either way I would come back, but I wouldn't want to watch a film in the screening room unless I'm af a film festival or something. read more

Grew up going there and watching classics and Charlie Chaplins films in the 2 story antique staged theater with huge screen. Lately went with my kid to see a comedy, we were seated in tiny theater capacity approximately 30 chairs. A profound change. Not sure what's going on there. Will go again if they stop showing all the politically charged woke propaganda BS on daily basis. Definitely not the sort of films I grew up watching in this beloved theater. read more

This is an updated review because of the complete class in which a situation was handled tonight by the staff. We all bought tickets for home alone, but in a fluke the theatre had tech issues and had to switch to smaller space leaving many of us without a seat. They added a second viewing later in the night, and for anyone who couldn't make it we got a full refund plus a free ticket and popcorn to next showing. Others went to 930 and still got free things. I mean how cute is this movie theater!? The owners preserved this place well. It was clean (restrooms were too) and staff were very friendly. The box office was outside and even that was adorable. There was a good selection of movies ranging from old films to new movies currently out. Once inside, the area where you buy snacks was a bit cramped, but beautifully decorated. I felt like I was transported back in time. The theater itself was pretty big. The only downside were the seats. I thought they were a bit snug. The sides of the seat touched my sides and I'm a size 4 in pants. Maybe the armrests could've moved up? I'm not sure because I didn't try to, but if that were the case, then I would've been more comfortable. Everything else was great though. read more

I was exploring Boston for a long weekend and staying just a block or so away at an Airbnb in Brookline. When my feet were just about to fall off from walking around Boston so much, I stopped for a movie at Coolidge Corner Theatre (per my usual traveling ways). Coolidge Corner Theatre reminded me of theaters I used to frequent as a student in NYC (the Film Forum came to mind): classic old-school theater, indie films. I was in what I think is the largest theater for a screening of Amazing Grace (the documentary about the gospel album she recorded live in LA). It was beautiful, had comfortable seats, and pretty good auditorium elevation for an older theater (something that's important me as a very short person)! All in all, it was a great visit. If I lived in Boston, I'd be a regular. read more

Has always been my go to theater for the movies. Nothing beats the vibe watching a movie you always wanted to see in a grand old fashioned theater. The film selection has always been great and plays cool criterion films late night on The Weekends. The ticket prices got noticeably higher, a few years ago it was 11-12$, now it's 16$. The seats in movie house 2 are extremely uncomfortable, feels like those old wooden fenway park chairs. Besides that it's an excellent place to catch a 70mm film and buy a local bar on tap. Hopefully the increased ticket price speeds up the renovations that are being built in the back of the building. read more

I like the theater. I really do. I even think it is worth rge extra money for the resoration fee. Tacked onto the already pricey ticket for small screen old theater etc... But I can't get past the rudeness of the staff. Tonight. 7/16. We went and shirt girl, with short haircut and glasses could barely stop looking at ger phone to take our order or answer a simple question. They seem to hire a lot of young, weird outcasts that think they are "cool"... Too cool to. Do badoc customer service.....NOT COOL.,,...and looking at your phone is a No. In ANY job.,,esp. The main theater is gorgeous--restored Art Deco detail and huge screen. The small screening room is pretty uncomfortable and some of the seats actually have obstructed views. I've seen people look at the available sears and turn around and walk out. So check which theater your film is being shown in when purchasing tickets. Snack bar has good popcorn and is a good price! Lots of fun late movies on the weekends. read more
