Being crazy strict about outside snacks or beverages is one thing. I get it, places need to stay afloat. But if you're going to do that and have the rest of the theater be gross, dingy and have minimal staff around, it screams financial desperation. The kicker is that the bathroom had no toilet paper. This is a true hidden gem for a theater. I have been coming here off and on since I was a child. I even worked here for a little bit when I was maybe 10 years old. they really have done a lot to improve the interior of the seating the staff the concessions you can order everything online, including your concessions and when you come in, they just validate it and give you everything right on the spot. You could also purchase tickets or concessions on site. it is cheaper than any of the other theaters in the area. I find that their reclining chairs are actually the most comfortable I have experienced . I think they're just more ergonomic , especially for someone that suffers from knee and back pain at times I would recommend to anyone looking to catch a movie in the greater Boston area to check this place out. Attended a showing of the Documentary PTSD911 presented by the City of Cambridge last night and it was great. The event was well attended and comfortable for our first responders, our public safety partners and panelists. The second floor provided a great backdrop for anyone considering hosting an event at the cinema. Can't say enough about Mitchell, David & Julio from the start pre-planning, event support, and follow through were great. Apple Cinema was a great place to host this event and look forward to returning again in the near future. read more

I came here on Christmas Eve to watch a movie with my family and have to say this theater is subpar. Three issues are the reasons for my low rating: 1) Not a single movie theater employee was in sight. There was no one to check our tickets. We literally could have walked inside the screening room without paying and no one would have known the difference. 2) The seats and floor were filthy and covered with popcorn, so clearly no one had cleaned the theater before the movie started. 3) The restrooms were disgusting. Again, it was clear no one had bothered to clean them. I had to walk by four or five stalls until I found one that did not have evidence of someone's "time of the month" all over the toilet seat. Bottom line: There are plenty of other movie theaters in the area that have cleaner facilities and staff onsite. I do not recommend Apple Cinemas and will not see another movie here. read more

I was scrolling through the reviews here for any complaints about their 3D screens, and I'm surprised there were none. I watched Little Mermaid in 3D and noticed that the left side of my 3D glasses had a dark hue. I switched to a different pair of glasses, thinking that the original pair was the problem. But, I had the same issue, so the problem has to do with the screen. I went downstairs to bring up the issue to the manager, and it seemed like he was informed of this before, given his tone. He said that the theater is old and that people had different viewing experience when watching 3D. He gave me a free re-admittance ticket for the inconvenience. I'm not sure if they will fix the 3D issues, but moving forward, I'm going to avoid watching 3D at Apple Cinemas. read more

I love going to the movies particularly on Saturday morning. I went to see the Accountant 2 this morning at Apple Cinema in Cambridge. It is not particularly near my home. But it is now my favorite theater for several reasons including how pleasant and gracious Sheila E. was. So pleasant that I asked her her name on the way out so I could write this review. Something I never do. It is well worth the extra few driving miles and I plan to go back soon. read more

Used to come here for $5 Tuesdays pre-pandemic, and then resumed after they finally reopened couple years later. Wanted to reserve tickets for a Tuesday showing, but to my dismay, found that they are now at $8 for older movies and $9 for premieres. Thanks, but no thanks. I previously tolerated their crappy facilities (poor sound, small screens, some of the rooms don't have recliners) because of the $5 price, but at the current $8-9 I would rather pay an extra couple bucks to go to far nicer normal cinema. The best thing this cinema has going for it is a spacious and free parking lot despite its closer-to-central-Boston location. read more

First time trying this theater. Closest to where we live. First the positives: comfortable recliners, decent screen/audio, good inside-movie experience. Parking is easy. Everything around the theater seems off. Immediately, you walk in and feel the floor sticky everywhere. Nobody has cleaned them for a while. Self serve concessions are messy, pop corn/butter scattered everywhere. Bathroom is small upstairs, not very clean, and stall ran out of toilet paper. The entire facility looks and feels very uncared for and out of repair. Staff neither friendly nor engaged. Has a running out of the clock feel to the business. Not sure if we'd return. read more

If you're anxious going places this review is for you! First off take a deep breath. The employees here go out of their way to be helpful and kind. Everyone I spoke to was so nice and really made me feel comfortable! Okay down to business: When you go through the doors the first thing you'll see in front of you is a counter. This is where you can buy your snacks. At the end of the counter are the registers where you get your tickets! If you bought tickets online just pull up the barcode that was sent to your email so they can scan it. Around the corner from the counter is the public bathroom. The person who handles your ticket at the register will let you know which screen to go to and where it is. Theaters 4, 5, and 6 are on the ground floor. When you enter the cinema they are straight ahead down that short hallway. Theaters 1, 2, and 3 are upstairs. To get there take a right and go towards the other counter space with the waiting bench, then turn and go up the flight of stairs. At the top there's a lounge area where you can wait and/or eat before going in (not mandatory, but there if you come early or need it). There's a few more steps after that and then you've got the 3 theaters with bright signs at the top so you know which is yours. When you push through the doors you're there! To find your seat look at the first chair in each row. Every chair has the row letters and seat number on the cup holder! On the first chair of each row on the outside facing the aisle are small lit up row letters so if you come in late and it's dark you can still find your seat. I'll include pictures of course. To recline your seat feel around for the large circular button on the inside of the right side of your seat. It's next to where the outside of your thigh will be when you sit down. You can control the incline so you're all the way back, part way, or fully upright. Now on to the actual cinema: it was lovely. As I said the employees are wonderful, so don't be afraid. The seats will work for you if you're plus size. The cup holders are large enough to fit a 50.7 fl oz water bottle. I will say the air conditioning isn't as strong as other theaters I've been to, so if you run hot maybe don't wear long sleeves or heavy clothing. The bathroom was very clean and well kept. If you're plus sized maybe use the handicap stall if it's free and won't take away from someone else. I had my ludicrously capacious bag with me and it was awkward getting in and out of a regular stall. That's on me though. It's also smaller than most theatres I've been to, which can be nice. Less people, less things to be anxious about. I went to a movie at 12 pm and there was only one other person there. I can't wait to go back! :) read more

Went to Apple Cinema in Fresh Pond Cambridge on Tuesday, July 8th to see Jurassic World Rebirth. I was there for the 12:30 showing and after paying found out I was the only person in the theater. I did not feel comfortable and the manager told me he would give me my money back OR he would send one of he workers into the theater every 15 minutes or so to check on me. Since I was already there and really wanted to see the movie, I opted for the "15 minute check ups". True to his word someone came in every 15-20 minutes or so, asked if I was OK and left. Apple Cinema in Cambridge actually knows what "CUSTOMER SERVICE" means. Sorry I did not get the name of the manager but I'm sure he knows who he is. She was very nice and asked my mother and I if we wanted her to take our picture in front of the Minecraft movie poster(we went to see the Minecraft movie). I've been twice and was please both times. Had an old school vibes mixed with a modern aged movie theater.

I was going to leave 1 star, but gave some leeway for the fact that I was there to see Barbie (as was a good chunk of America), and I'm *hoping* that this threw the theater off their game. I've been to Apple Cinemas many times, but this was the first time I've been with the "self-serve" concessions. This was an absolute mess. Both soda dispensers only had Coke and Fanta, none of the other dozens of options, but no signs on the machine (pretty crappy after paying $8 for a medium soda!). The buttery oil dispenser at the popcorn stand was empty and we gave up waiting for it to be replaced. There was a self-pay kiosk and staff seemed confused as to whether we could pay there, or were supposed to pay when we bought tickets. Snacks were limited and if you were looking for a meal replacement (hot dog, pizza), you're out of luck. The theater was reasonably clean for our 5 pm showing, but after the movie, the lobby was a mess - popcorn all over the floor and the women's restroom was pretty gross too...puddles of indeterminate liquid on the floor mixed with long hairs and no soap. I want to support this theater as it's close by and I've come here for many years...but they need to seriously up their game. We're no longer in pandemic mode - hire more staff, please! There's no excuse for unclean bathrooms, popcorn all over the floor, and customers trying to figure out how to get snacks (and which beverages in the soda machine are actually available). We're not going back anytime soon. read more

We wanted to host a kids' birthday party here but were disappointed that we couldn't use the unutilized upstairs landing for cake and pizza. Admittedly we were late in planning the party and this was a last resort when other ideas fell through; we could still easily get 14 tickets for a 3D animated movie for a late Saturday afternoon show. But- the seats were comfortable and fully reclined, we could take up two full rows for our guests, the theater was fairly small so felt cosy. Concessions were crazy expensive though - $10 slurpees? But it still worked out for the party even though we had to take part of it to Danehy park nearby and the cupcake after-party was in the parking lot. read more

We had a great experience at Apple Cinemas in Cambridge on Friday 12/20/24. We went to see Musafa in 3-D and were the only ones there for the 3:30 show...maybe because it was snowing. We were having trouble understanding the dialogue so asked the Assistant Manager, Alex E. for headphones and closed captioning device. She was very sweet and brought them out quickly and offered to help set them up. After the movie she took a selfie with my wife and then accompanied her to the car because it was so slippery. She even offered to clear the snow off of our car! It's nice to meet and interact with someone so pleasant and helpful. Thanks Alex for being you. read more

This movie theater is really old, quiet, and feels a bit dirty. You got 1 person selling tickets, snacks, and drinks when you walk in. Yes, just 1 worker in the area when you walk in. The really good thing is the seats and where you watch the movie is nice and the cost is cheaper than the bigger movie theater. It just feels like an old man cave that no one take care off when you walk in. read more

Adorable theater with low prices (especially on Tuesdays and Wednesday's when there are great specials). Shows all the major releases but feels like a comfy small venue. Large, comfortable seats. An underrated local spot to catch a movie. The seats and rooms themselves are great. Comfortable chairs that recline, and they're in good shape. Sure they could use a couple more food options, but they have the standard necessities. Seem to run a bit of a skeleton staff but who can blame any business for that with the current labor situation out there. With theaters having just rebounded around a year ago, you really gotta give this theater credit for running a decent shop. Plan to be back 1-2x a month. read more

Everything you need and nothing that you don't! A no frills, slightly outdated neighborhood theater. Big comfy reclining seats. Screens are a little small for the size of the theater so I recommend not being afraid to buy your tickets close up. Great prices though! Paid $9 for a matinee ticket. read more

The Apple Cinema in the Fresh Pond Shopping Center in Cambridge MA is perhaps the best film-viewing venue I've ever had the pleasure to find in my 60+ years of going to the movies. The film selections are amazing--I'm a great fan of Indian movies, of which there is always a generous range being shown, from the major languages of this great, diverse cinematic tradition (practically all of these films are shown with idiomatic English subtitles)--the projection and sound system are top-notch, the rooms are kept trash-free and clean, the seats are very comfortable, and the popcorn is ample and delicious. But, most important of all, the staff who work there are among the nicest, most personable, and most hospitable people it's been my pleasure and honor to know. Thank you, Alex, Julio, Mitchell, and all of your colleagues for making the experience of visiting the Fresh Pond Apple one of the highlights of any given week! JFN read more

This theater is on that is just ok and really needs to be updated BUT I've continued to go because they bargain Tuesdays for $4.75. I went there with my family on Tuesday 4/11/23 with the thought that I would be paying $4.75 per ticket. I sent my family member in to grab the tickets and he came back to the car with $9.00 tickets. My problem is not paying $9.00 for a ticket because it is still pretty cheap. My problem is that there is still a sign saying $4.75 when entering the parking lot. My problem is also that there were no signs displayed on the door or in the theater to notify people that there is or will be an increase in price. When my family member mentioned it to the staff worker, the response was oh yeah it changed like a week or 2 ago... if that was we I would've acknowledged that there should've been something to inform people of the change and I would've either honored the price since it is still advertised in the parking lot as $4.75. Or at least offer a free snack and then put up a notice telling people. Nevertheless, I don't plan to go back when I can pay $4 more to go to a theatre that is clean, has food, and working bathrooms. I really hope that the increase will allow them to make the necessary repairs that they need to and bring this place up to date. read more

I was definitely surprised to see the entrance blocked at 11:30am when I arrived early to watch Dune at 12pm (matinee ticket purchased in advance online). I was almost convinced that the theater was closed for good, but there was a very small sign by the door that stated the theater will not open until 10min prior to first movie playing in the theater. I faced no fuss in redeeming my pre-purchased ticket through the emailed QR code. A regular soda+popcorn combo is $11. The theaters are small but has nice reclining chairs with a full screen. The only problem I had during my movie was that a couple thought it was a GREAT idea to bring their 7 or so year old child to see DUNE. The child was loud and chattering and munching on popcorn the entire film that everyone seated near them ended up moving seats (it's a good thing the theater was mostly empty). Please don't bring your child to adult films. Get a babysitter or just go see a children's movie. Please. read more

This place is absolutely killing it for what it is. They are a small, private theatre doing their best and I love them for it. We went to see the Mario movie over the weekend and the seats are comfy, the lobby is welcoming, and the toilets are clean. They're food options are classic and delicious movie-going fare. I have reviewed this neighborhood place before. Now, as the icing on the cake of bad management, and ridiculousness, they have jacked the senior and matinee prices to 8 bucks (in 1 jump, from 4.75) 8 bucks for the people who live on Soc Sec. Come on! Took my 8 bucks, had me schlep upstairs to the theatre, and instead of my movie there was a foreign film in 3D playing. Schleped back down, talked to the manager who checked for a while in the computer and told me that yay, I was right, and no one told him (my favorite excuse) and he'll put it in now. The poor management overshadows the improvements they have made. And now, jumping the price by nearly 100%. I'll just wait to see the movie streaming, and the popcorn is certainly cheaper at home too. I suppose I could have gone on Tues when I got other things to do. Tues are still 4.75. yippee. read more
