From reading the old reviews, looks like this location is certainly working on improving their service and food quality. My friends & I visited this spot for brunch and we had a good experience. I ordered the Chicken Crepe, hubby the Strawberry Waffle & a burger (forgot which one) and my friends had the Rye toast and housefried potatoes. I must say it took me a long time to try this restaurant based on some of the negative reviews (although most don't appear recent). I am happy to report that I have been there twice for breakfast this month, and really enjoyed both visits. Had the same server both times, who is friendly and efficient, but lets us take our time ordering and lingering over our meal--no rush to turn tables. The coffee is REALLY great--coffee is always a make or break it for me with breakfast places, and theirs is really good. Food was good also, and at a decent price point. The place was spotless, even the restrooms. We went yesterday for Memorial Day, and appreciated seeing the USA decorations and the red, white and blue napkins on every place setting. A lot of businesses have been taking it on the chin lately with being short staffed. So, I get it. I try not to bash on restaurants too much if the service isn't super fast. I am fully aware that my waitress is not a cheetah. This last visit I had though....I have mixed feelings about. You're probably asking yourself, "How bad could anyone screw up breakfast?" Well....that's the thing. The breakfast itself ranges from pretty great to downright excellent here. Matter of fact, when I sampled my friend's skillet (which looked large enough to feed two whole adults), I remember immediately regretting my decision to order the traditional breakfast. Not because it was bad, by any means. But because the skillet was a solid 9 out of 10. I mean, those scrambled eggs, sausage, gravy, potatoes and assorted veggies all blended together like a 17th century symphony (try saying THAT three times fast). Meanwhile, the traditional breakfast was so traditional that I forgot to take a photo of it. But don't worry....it was good. 7 out of 10, to be precise. What's holding me back from giving a better score, however, is the service. For the most part, it was fine. Except...I had to wait longer than anybody at our table to get my food. Why? Because when it first came out, it had the wrong side. I ordered potatoes and got grits instead. Ordinarily, this wouldn't matter to me much because I actually love grits. I was just in the mood for potatoes. No big deal, right? Except what do the server and kitchen staff do? Take the entire plate back, refire said plate which....took an additional 20 minutes to prepare, then finally bring everything back. I have SO many questions. 1.) Why couldn't they just swap out the sides? 2.) Do homefries really take THAT long to make? I can cook these at home in under 10 minutes. 3.) How does breakfast take so long to make? Even as one person, I can create an entire plate in under 15 minutes, excluding prep. 4.) How do you confuse grits with homefries? 5.) Why couldn't they just swap out the sides?! These guys are professionals. I'm sure they could cook circles around me. Yet, waiting for this refire took ages. Lemme tell ya....it felt awkward as hell watching my other friend across from me delay eating her own salad just so that I wouldn't end up eating after everyone else (which ended up happening regardless). When the plate came back, I noticed the bacon was undercooked (I requested crispy bacon), but I didn't feel like sending it back so...I ate it, because....BACON! The food was good. I'd certainly go back....after they hire more chefs and waitresses. Oh! That's another thing.. Apparently the servers get hounded by their bosses if they don't frequently check on their patrons. This one girl who looked intimidated as hell asked us if we needed anything else....almost like she was attempting to get us out of the restaurant in a hurry. Mind you, this place currently closes at 2pm and it was barely after noon at this point. My friends and I were so confused. It's like they started paying more attention to our table AFTER the delayed plate snafu. I hope they get their staffing built up over the next several months. Because this place definitely has potential. Get the serving staff to sync up just right with the kitchen and you got yourself a well oiled machine of a restaurant. I'm giving J. This is a hard review to write. We got there right as they opened at 7am. The servers was excellent and very accommodating, but the food has mixed results, here is the breakdown; -best scrambled eggs I have ever had -worst breakfast potatoes I have ever had-seriously horrible, deep fried from frozen, better at any fast food restaurant. -good grits -horrible bacon, it takes a lot to buy unsmoked super thin and under cooked bacon-they managed to do it -biscuits and gravy were cold, but the flavor was good. Overall, they need some signature breakfast foods to draw people in. If Another Broken Egg couldn't make it there, this guy is destined to go out fast. read more

We were running late from running a few errands but wanted to try this J Christopher's out. We showed up only 20 minutes before they closed. It really helps to echo the clanking of silverware on plates and the sound of cafe chatter. The location is close to a main road but also tucked away with plenty of parking. The server was kind and prompt. We sat, had orders in, and got our food back in less then 5 minutes. From mouth to pen to paper to mouth to cook to plate to table. 5 minutes. Impressive. The food was great. We both enjoyed the just bubba, which is J Christopher's eggs, side, and biscuits and gravy, and I added a side of bacon. All of it was cooked perfectly. We were at a gala event for NYE and decided to stop back by here. I felt nostalgic for the cinnamon roll and ordered it along with a white chocolate mocha, and the sausage and eggs and grits. I love this place!! We recently moved to this area and it's conveniently located super close to the house. There's plenty of parking and lots of room inside to host big parties, office brunches and small gatherings. They serve breakfast and brunch. Close around 2pm so get there early! Active military also get 50% off their bill!! Fantastic!! The food and service has always been consistent. We are greeted and immediately seated. Love this place. Every single time I have come here I have always been impressed with how the taste of the food is and the speed of service. After having a hard timd placing my order for my company online through uber eats, with just 30 minutes notice they took my order, packed everyones order in individual bags and had it ready for me by the time I came. They however did not offer me a box or a big bag to put all the orders into one container. I had to take them out individually. But there was one waitress who did offer to help me to take them to my car, which I did appreciate. But I was dismissed pretty fast after paying the $112 bill even though there was only one other customer in the restaurant, which was not appreciated. I've always been a fan of J. Christophers, because of the fast, friendly service, and great breakfast options. It was my first time at this location, and they did not disappoint. The staff and manager gave a friendly greeting, and there was no wait for a table. My server Ava was great, and she was very attentive. The food and drinks were prepared and brought out in good time. First I want to say I know places all over are struggling to find staff, but lack of staff should not equal lack of service. Family came here for brunch and let's just say, it was an all morning affair. It's like we got forgot about, over and over again. Got our drinks and waited and waited. After placing our order we never saw our server again, 45 minutes later the food came out with a very unapologetic "the kitchen is backed up". That is something that could have been said while we were waiting -- we even joked (to each other) that it seemed like the kitchen could only handle orders for 1 table at a time. Husband and I both got skillets & the portions were much smaller than they had been in the past. Food was good, just smaller than in the past. Never got checked on again until we had to flag someone down for our check. Gave it 3 stars because the food was good and historically they're more on their game. They were just okay but the drinks we got (iced chai and mocha) were big in serving size and not too sweet, made perfectly to our liking. As for the service, we were greeted warmly and sat down immediately but after they brought out the food they stopped coming by to check on us. Our waffle came without whipped cream and we tried to get their attention but no one came by so we just ate it as is. Came to J.Cristopher off of Windward to get breakfast! This is my second time here. The first time the food was not good either. I ordered a Cajun skillet. There was nothing Cajun about it. The sausage was hard, the sausage casing was not cooked thru. The bell peppers & onions were hard & not cooked. Hey he grits were creamy just no seasoning. I ordered a waffle and it was not completely done still a little mushy. Not sure if our waitress was new, she was sweet but had to ask for several things at least 5-6 times. Also the skillet breakfast tasted like the cast iron skillet. It took me 2 years to come back here and I will probably not come back. Total meal for 2 $50 wasted dollars. We come here for breakfast but have noticed over the years the staff are now all so young and inexperience. No one over the age of 21. So service is very lacking just the normal small things like opening a ketchup bottle before putting it on the table, asking if you need a straw then having to ask three different ppl before getting one or asking for three water and only getting two for the three of us. It is like eating at a high school. The food took awhile to come out and was very bland. No flavor at all to the eggs Benedict. The potato's were under cooked so still white. The omelette had some flavor in the middle of the box egg mixture but over all kind of rubbery. The skillet had a very small blob of sausage gravy in the middle and the fried potato's were also not fried but white. No flavor like you would expect. I've been to this location several times and haven't yet had a bad experience. Most recently, I went for breakfast with my family that was in from out of town. It was surprisingly quiet for a Saturday morning. We arrived and were seated immediately. Our server was prompt, but needed to cut back on the personal info. Probably shouldn't tell us that "your brain isn't working today." Her brain worked fairly well, though she did bring me the wrong tea.. twice. I had the regular pancakes and fresh fruit. The pancakes were quite good and it was nice that they offered me a half stack. The fruit was fresh, but the portion size was paltry for the $3.49 price tag. Positive note: they offer sugar free syrup! Family enjoyed the Eggs Benedict, Blueberry Crunchcakes & Western Omelet. The oven-roasted potatoes were slightly overcooked however and seemed to have been sitting for a bit under a heat lamp. Portions were good for the prices. On other occasions, my husband & I have enjoyed the Song of the Orient Salad (though WAY overpriced) and the J. Christophers Club. I definitely wouldn't recommend visiting if you're on a tight breakfast/lunch budget, but it's a nice splurge now and again. read more

The servers were on point, and attentive at 8:30 am Sunday morning! Food was served quickly, and a variety of options. I had the grits casserole- which melted in my mouth. There's regular, blueberry, banana and chocolate chip pancakes that go well with assorted gourmet teas, coffee's, hot chocolate or just plain old orange juice. Lunch is okay as long as you get a salad. I was not thrilled about some of the sandwiches they serve, but I guess you can't please everyone. Normally I'd give them 4 to 5 stars but today, not so much. I eat here often as they're near my office, so I know they know how to make a grilled cheese and bacon sandwich. I have no idea what the problem was today. First try- I received 2 slices of dry toast with unmelted cheese between them, and no bacon. Sent it back. Second try- it looked like grilled cheese this time, but still no bacon. Why is this so hard? Sent it back again. No I don't want you to try again, my coworker has finished eating his lunch and I no longer have time to play "wheel of cheese". Eventually someone else brought it out the 3rd time anyway. Flat, soggy, and now on the house. Well, it was better than nothing. If I were to base my entire opinion on today's experience - I'd never come back. We went in and were waiting in line to get seated. There were 2 hostesses that apparently cannot communicate with each other effectively. One was seating a couple and the other came back to seat us. While we were waiting on her to get the silverware and menus another person came around and walked up to the podium an elderly couple who was behind us asked if we were in line and I responded that we were already waiting to be seated. The hostess then proceeds to walk us around in a circle while the other hostess seats the couple behind us. Then the hostess walks back up front and back to my party and asks us if we mind waiting 10-15 minutes because she didn't know how to do her job. Both hostesses should be fired. read more
