This is a cute corner cafe in downtown Pelham. We came on a Sunday afternoon. The menu said they only serve breakfast until 1, but they still let us order even though it was a little later. The dosa breakfast was a unique twist on an Indian staple. The dosa was similar to a crepe. It was light, gently crisped, and filled with eggs, cheese, and veggies. It came with a mild chutney. I really enjoyed it, especially with the smoky, sweet hot sauce provided for the table. My husband ordered the dad's breakfast burrito. He said it was tasty, but the portion size was small. My friend had the pancakes. An order came with three and they were quite large and fluffy. Service was fairly fast. Looking forward to trying the rest of the menu. read more

I like the coffee selection, though I think I need always to ask for two shots to really help give me the jolt I need. The space is eclectic; I'm seeing new decor each time I'm here. The staff manage to keep the space very clean. Lots of food options, including some snacks to go. There is also a fridge with some beverages. The steak was tender and flavorful. The most recent time I got breakfast which consisted of french toast sticks and sausage. The french toast sticks were coated in oats which provides an astounding level of crunch. They weren't sweet but the syrup makes up for that. It was a maple syrup which has just the right amount of sweetness. The sauage was good but you only get one. I wish it was two. They have free wifi that is SECURED which I prefer. The service is lovely. They chit chat with you making you feel seen and appreciated. I highly recommend this place. read more

The quirky decorations were intriguing and the upbeat music gave the impression this would be a fun place to eat. We sat at a table that had a sign stating that we could only stay for 90 minutes to allow others to enjoy this seat. All tables had them. They brought coffee which was pretty good. I felt we made a good decision. I ordered the Western Omelet without the green peppers. So it was ham, onions, and cheddar. It says it is made with 3 eggs and comes with home fries and toast. When I go to a diner, they usually say breakfast potatoes which is that onion, pepper concoction that is disgusting. Home fries are typically a shredded potato either deep fried or grill fried. I should have asked if that is what is was. I expected two pieces of toast and ordered whole wheat. The omelet was the flattest version I have ever seen. If there were 3 eggs, they were very small eggs. The toast was one piece cut in half (2 pieces is how they see it) dry and no jam, butter, jelly, or other condiment was offered. The potatoes were the disgusting diner potatoes except they made it worse by serving them with sliced carrots at a tepid temperature. The omelet had no flavor. The amount of onion and ham included was so minimal, I could not actually verify either were included. I could see the yellow of the cheddar but it had not real flavor. They didn't use any seasoning so I had to add salt and pepper just to taste something. All is all, the service was average, the food was edible but had no flavor, the ambiance was interesting. I had a blt with a piece of fried chicken.($20) The multi grain bread was store bought sliced brea d and the bacon had no favor. they must haved charged $8-9 to add chix cutlet which was definitely frozen chix pieces. There was no gourmet element to this over priced sandwich. i also had arnold palmer that tasted like cold black tea and lemon water(3.5)$ 29.80 with three pack chocolate chip cookies which should have been loaded with choc chips but was underwhelming @3.50 pack. This place is worth skipping there not doing anything special here just swindling you out of money and I guarantee the owners have give zero fuchs about what other ppl think they just collecting your money with zero interest in providing high caliber food and service. Who runs out of coffee on a Tuesday morning around 8 am? This place does. This review is long overdue. About two months ago I stopped in for some coffee before work. The young guy taking my order was friendly. I asked him for a medium size dark roast. The other worker behind the counter (female; maybe a manager?) blurted out rather rudely- "we're out of dark roast". Ok. The young guy who WAS taking my order then recommended the medium roast saying it is just as good and bold like the dark roast. Kool, I'll take it. Female worker disappeared and the young guy went to the coffee machine. He was there for an unusually long amount of time, he was looking for things and seemed a little frazzled. He comes back to the register and proceeded to tell me "we're out of coffee believe it or not". I was shocked... but more annoyed that I wasted 10 minutes in there and never even got a cup of coffee. I just walked out without saying anything. Total waste of time. I use to go here all the time when they were under different management and a different name. Since then, besides this last time, I probably went maybe 2-3 other times and remember all my experiences being underwhelming. Came here while we were at the flower shop down the street to grab a quick bite. My fiancé and I are getting married in New Rochelle so we were in the area. This cafe was recommended to us. We stopped by on our way from the city for a quick bite. The place is tiny, unpretentious and comfortable. We had the roasted pepper portobello panini and the cubano, both of which were really good (especially the portobello one) and a couple of cappuccinos. The staff were really friendly and not overbearing. Everything was pretty cheap for the quality as well, it came up to ~$30 for the two sandwiches and the cappuccinos. I walk inside and the place didn't even smell like coffee, but rather like an old used cleaning towel. Anyway, I wanted my ice coffee. I order it. My order was wrong. But I didn't mind. I took my son to J Cafe for a Sunday morning breakfast. Clearly this is not a diverse establishment. All eyes were on us and everyone was quiet as we entered the small cafe. Was it because we are colored? I suppose. Such is life. Get used to us. Anyway, we ordered. I specifically said turkey bacon & turkey sausage twice. The waitress returned with pork bacon & pork sausages. The waitress never checked on us during our visit to see if we needed anything. It was when I asked for the check that she said, oh, my mistake, I bought you pork bacon. My son never even touched it. We know pork from turkey products. She then offered to give us a side of turkey bacon and sausages to go. I declined. I did ask her not to charge us for the bottled water though and to take off the 80 cents for syrup. I had french toast, shouldn't it automatically come with syrup? Never again. read more

It recently changed hands and although much of the menu is the same, I was cheerfully greeted by several workers and one manager who came to may table to make certain all was good. The floors are, mercifully, newly refinished and the decor has lightened up. The omelets are STILL really scrambles! But the food was good and came out to us quickly. When we moved to Pelham a year ago, JCafe was called the MAD Cafe. We saw this as a sign of good things to come: our newborn (literally, two days old), Michael's, initials are MAD. My two experiences there were fine, but nothing particularly noteworthy. Then, a few months ago, the owner of the MAD Cafe announced that new management would be taking over. Apparently, the new owner saw the restaurant as an opportunity to pay homage to his sons, too ... the J in JCafe refers to their first names. After a bad experience at a local diner, my fellow mommy friend and I decided to have our weekly breakfast here. To our (delighted) surprise, the experience was fantastic: a huge, fluffy omelet stuffed with smoked salmon and goat cheese, streudel crusted french toast sticks and fresh muffins comprised that first meal. Everything was delicious. I returned. Many times. With many people. Because ... ... the salads are HUGE (I literally watched my mother-in-law eat her BLT salad for 20 minutes and not make a dent) ... they are also delicious (from the standards like the Cobb, to a make-your-own) ... the staff is awesome ... and flexible (like putting the Thai Chicken Salad into a wrap for me, and not charging extra for little things like pickles) ... FREE ICED TEA REFILLS!!! ... the Dosa. You must have it. It's FANTASTIC ... WiFi (seriously, I almost wish I had a full time job so I'd have an excuse to go spend several hours there while I get my work done) Bottom Line: Go there. Soon. Preferably now. read more

Stopped here for breakfast this morning with my husband. I always drive past and wanted to check it out. It is definitely quiet. There was only one man sitting down when we entered. The woman at the register asked us if we wanted to sit or go, we opted to stay. She handed us menus, told us to sit where we like, and asked if we wanted coffee. When we sat, we had a young man bring our coffees and take our order. All servers were very nice and polite. The food was very good. My husband did feel his wrap was a little small and lacking in presentation/side. But I very much so enjoyed the J Cafe breakfast. Overall, we enjoyed our experience. This might not be a trendy cafe if that's what your looking for, but it's a great place for some good food and to enjoy your company. read more
