Most spas offer lymphatic drainage with a facial, but I didn't want that. I just wanted the massage. I found Agave through Yelp and I am so glad I did. This place is located on a quiet street in uptown Whittier. There's free parking in front on the street or a free parking structure directly across. The place is small on the outside but seems bigger on the inside. It's super clean and gives off a relaxing vibe. The massage room has a wall of battery operated candles that give off that ambient lighting and the soothing music is the cherry on top. Liz is so sweet. Talking to her feels like talking to an old friend. She's knowledgeable and good at what she does. The first session I did, I just got the facial massage, but during my session she learned I was post op and suggested the chin contour treatment which comes with red light therapy to promote healing and another machine that uses heat to help tighten the skin. The massage feels like a good type of pain. I know she's working her magic and I leave Agave with my jawline snatched. I love how she suggests things I can do while at home, in between sessions. And she makes sure I'm doing my part to help myself heal. I can't wait to be fully healed and try the other treatments they offer. I think they also had a 20% tip minimum but honestly I didn't mind at all because the massage was SO good I would've tipped that much regardless. Once the massage started, she did a kind of body scan and she worked on all my tense areas. It was a deep tissue massage that definitely hurt but was very worth it. She made sure to ask if the pressure was okay each time it got intense and I told her yes (I can handle pain), I'm sure that if I asked to go softer she would but I was just letting her do her thing and trusting the process. I wanted to see what it was like the first time since I'll be returning for more sessions. This massage was nothing like the "regular" massage you get at one of those massage parlors where they have a routine and go about the appointment. Nancy took the time to focus on areas that I didn't even know needed to be worked on and I felt like complete jelly afterwards. She even did some cupping (my first time) and used this vibrating massage pad (heaven), my nose got stuffed halfway through and she put on some eucalyptus oil to open up my airways (very thoughtful). Nancy seems very intuitive to what your body needs so I'm sure that each massage she gives is going to be individualized to your body. She was also very informative about aftercare and what my body will be experiencing the following days and she was right. She worked on my knots, which by the way was my entire body. She kneaded and rubbed and pushed and pulled. She took her time and really worked on me. I have to say she helped me more than any doctor or physical therapist out there. I cried for joy when I left. The world no longer sat on my shoulders. Nancy is an angel with strong fingers.
