The originals were up to 43 years old and they were never properly designed or installed, resulting in drainage problems and water damage to the room below. The rebuild fixed the problems thoroughly and elegantly. The estimator Darryl showed that he understood the problem and the project goals at our first meeting. The proposed price was competitive, and the subsequent workmanship was excellent. The crew showed up within about a week of the contract signing and completed the work on schedule in about four days. The final result has been tested by multiple days of heavy rain, and so far has not disappointed!

Our builder (Churchill Classics) charged an arm and a leg, and we didn't want to go back to them for another quote, so I scheduled over 15 contractors to come out in 2 days. Of the contractors that came out, Agustin was the first. He was on time, knowledgeable, and gave me plenty of ammunition to go up against the remaining contractors. Although Creative Exteriors Plus was one of the most expensive options we looked at, it was also the only truly professional experience that left a great taste in my mouth going forward. Augustin of Creative Exteriors Plus is fantastic! I always look for contractors with strong integrity, who are honest, and who have no issues answering even the dumbest of questions. Agustin not only gave me peace of mind when meeting us, but he was also very open and honest about everything, from the work, scheduling, payment, and timeframe, to the actual products he used. Before screening in our deck, I wanted to stain/seal the deck and power wash it but didn't want to spend the extra capital getting it professionally done. Agustin also helped walk me through products to look at, steps to properly power wash, and troubleshooting via text the whole way through. At one point, I mentioned that my Google caller ID had picked up another business name, Prime Construction Corp, and I wanted to verify if this was related to him or what the connection was. Agustin called me right away and explained that it was an old business they contracted with bigger vendors, but during COVID, they pivoted and no longer have any affiliation with that business. He was quite surprised it popped up with his number. We had a great laugh about it, and I really appreciated how straightforward he was with this information. I love his transparency and honesty throughout the whole process, and we even contacted him again about possibly screening in/putting a roof over our walkup basement door. He was very candid, advising that having the window on the side and a lack of trees nearby would attribute to more cost and effort than a solid result. After brainstorming, we came up with the idea of buying screens and velcroing them around the rails (haven't put this plan into action yet), but I very much appreciate his candor and encouragement that this is a project I can do myself. The entire project was done in roughly 3 days: two days of work back to back, and then 1 Saturday due to rain. The screen is so beautifully and meticulously done that it doesn't even look like a screen is there. His team also managed to perfectly match our current post layout when constructing a new post and adding a door. The door also comes with a cool feature: it has a window that slides down. They also included 2 new keys for the door, and Agustin did a full walkthrough with us to ensure we were fully happy with the results. Before completing the deck, his team also power washed the bug gunk off the deck and removed some of the remaining tape I had forgotten to remove when I stained the deck. He also offered to come back and install our ceiling fan once we actually pick one out. He's local and always just a short text away if I need anything. I cannot recommend Creative Exteriors Plus enough and absolutely rave about Agustin to everyone I know! Thank you so much for all of your hard work, and we will definitely be using you again in the near future for fencing/patio options.

DO NOT HIRE GRACE CONSTRUCTION…read more Contractor identification: Grace Construction, LLC / Jay Colley -- MD MHIC #151417 | MD MHBR #9211 | WV #WV066389 | PA HIC #PA215319 If you aren't prepared to watch over their shoulder and inspect their work, I would seriously reconsider hiring Grace Construction. Based on my experience, without constant homeowner oversight, I believe I would have been left with a substandard finished product. My experience was a pattern of poor workmanship, poor judgment, repeated rework, property damage, and a serious lack of quality control. An entire outside rim joist was installed crooked and had to be redone. The railing was visibly crooked. They left the jobsite with the concrete in the condition shown in my photos. I had to go out while it was still workable and broom-finish it myself, but I was unable to edge it due to it being too cured at that point, and I still later had to have the concrete work corrected. Wire mesh remains exposed at the surface. The concrete requirements were written into my contract, yet I had to point those requirements out when the work didn't match what was contracted. I also dealt with drainage I had to dig up myself, concrete residue and staining on my asphalt, asphalt damage, jobsite messes, and work that repeatedly had to be corrected or redone. A relatively straightforward deck rebuild dragged on for about a month with an incredible amount of unnecessary rework. To their only credit, Grace Construction was generally willing to come back when I identified a problem. The problem was that, in my experience, their corrections too often led to another problem, another correction, or ultimately required a third party to correct the work. Being willing to fix mistakes is appreciated. Having to repeatedly fix the fixes is not quality control. They are more worried about other job sites instead of the one they are on. They will drag your work out to prioritize other things. There was plenty of lip service about quality and providing a great customer experience. My issue with owner Jay Colley and Nick, who was presented to me as their project manager, isn't personal--it's performance. I experienced repeated poor judgment and failure to catch obvious problems before I had to point them out myself. When the homeowner has to provide the quality control, that's a management failure, not a personality conflict. Grace Construction eventually tried to resolve the accumulated problems I considered acceptable. Despite everything, I was prepared to move on. Then they came back. During a return visit, Nick drove into the edge of the neighbors and left ruts in the lawn. I was ready to take my lumps and let everything go until Nick was sent to "oversee" the repair (whatever that means in the scope of this "company"?). That's when you will see pictures of the ruts left in my neighbor's yard, which Nick responded to with a sarcastic, dismissive attitude, as did Jay via text. He refused to answer the phone. Not that any of it needs explaining, but the neighbor had hired someone to come to his home and help with some street water diversion that was impacting his property. It had been there two days when nick drove over it. Again, to the point that a little situational awareness and attention to detail would avoid most of their problems. After everything else, another instance of carelessness with my property was the final straw. Everyone makes mistakes. This wasn't one mistake--it was a pattern. I have extensive photographs and communications documenting this experience. If you hire Grace Construction: watch everything. Check everything. Protect your property. Don't assume something was done correctly just because you're told it was. I would never hire Grace Construction again.
