After 10 years in our house my wife and I decided to finally move forward with finishing our basement. It is a large space, ~1200 sq feet of finished area (included a full bath, amazing bar, main tv/living room, teens play area, and a home gym) so we knew it would be a large job. We did our due diligence and got quotes from several companies. Now that the project is complete, we are very happy we decided on ACH Group as our contractor. The space looks amazing. Our experience has been very good overall, from the initial consultation with Tom Hummer to begin discussing the project and get the initial quote... to then moving into the actual job and meeting Eric, Mike, and Bindu... and working with each of them throughout the process. We wanted a company that did it by the books - ACH handled all that exceptionally - all permits were pulled timely; all inspections were completed by the county. In all honesty, I had a few of the county inspectors compliment ACH's work to me. It's an added piece of mind to us knowing that the job was done the right way and in full compliance with the local regulations, etc. - from both a safety and investment standpoint. As with most projects of this size, we had our share of "situations" and "surprises" that came up. Each time, ACH, whether it was Eric, Mike, Bindu, or one of their people here on the job site, explained the issue to us clearly... answered our questions... explained our options, and then worked with us to find and implement the best possible solution. Every crew/sub-contractor that was involved in the project were great. We found them all to be extremely polite, professional, respectful of our home and family (and pets), and just downright friendly and helpful. The work area was kept very clean and orderly throughout the project. We would have preferred a bit more consistency in the scheduling, but it was never a problem. Considering that we were all dealing with a Global pandemic, the snow/ice on a few occasions, and just the simple fact that there were a lot of crews involved and a lot of moving parts to this project, we pretty much knew who would be here and when - give or take a few days here and there. Eric Campbell was excellent. Knowing how many hours he is likely working, he always made time to address my questions and concerns and did so in a timely manner. As we neared the end of the project there were a few things that I was very particular about... some a/v wiring issues, etc.... and despite having to undo some completed work to solve the issue, Eric did exactly that and made sure that everything was done just as I requested. We had a small list of punch out items at the end and Eric made sure that each were reasonably taken care of. In hindsight, if there was any negative or any thing we would change, I think it would be to possibly upgrade our paint selection from a flat paint to something a bit more stain resistant. Don't get me wrong, the actual painting itself was fantastic - no issues with the painters - the place looks amazing and the painters did very good work. We've just realized that either the color we selected (which we love by the way), or the fact that it is a "flat" paint... or the combination of the two - have resulted in marks/smudges very quickly and from very light contact. Mostly in the high traffic stairway and the front of the bar. Very light contact has resulted in noticeable smudges that don't clean well. Lesson learned. All in all, we are extremely happy with ACH Group and the job they did for us. I won't lie, it was a long ~2 months of construction which coincided with my working from home and 2 kids doing virtual learning, but ACH made it as easy as could be reasonably expected. They actually finished a bit ahead of schedule on right on budget - actually, it was just slightly under budget. I highly recommend ACH Group for your basement remodeling/finishing projects. needed my father's basement finished. Tom did not show for my first two attempts at an estimate. We emailed and he stated it would not happen again so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. I do commend the transparency this company has with pricing but I am horrified about the service. I am a construction scheduler and estimator (for 10+ years now.) We got to the stage where the contract needed to be signed. I told Tim in advance that my Father is autistic. He does not do well with change and will need to think things over. I explained in detail the living situation. I felt good about everything. As to be expected my Dad was milling things over and left for two weeks. My husband has a very serious lung condition that has almost killed him several times. I did not specifically tell Tom this but I did mention repeatedly that I was very concerned about the air quality in the house. While my Dad was gone my husband took a turn and is on oxygen now and for the foreseeable future. His doctor stated we need to move to a location with better air quality. This was unexpected. Understandably this took all of my attention. Going back I see that I missed one text message with him from this time frame that I didn't respond to but that's because I was concerned about my husband dying. While we were working this out l, the second weekend of figuring everything out, my cellphone (from my company) broke and they replaced it on Monday. Random texts came in over the day so I am not sure when Tom sent me a second text. I was berated for not texting Tom back in the first text and wasting his time. I felt bad because I work in the field and said sorry. I explained what is going on. The next day I showed it to my boss (we only do commercial work) and he made me feel like I was not crazy. The text was completely out of line. I have never contacted anyone in a professional setting that way. If myself or any other person contacted someone like that it would be grounds for dismissal. But he is the VP so he can speak to people however he wants. What gets worse is the next day my Dad got back and decided he wanted the basement finished with them and HE would move in the basement. So I tried to contact them to establish that these text temper tantrums would not be a thing and to sign up. Well. I have been black listed clearly after the VP was wildly inappropriate with me. Dad is getting his basement but we are using a different company. Even today dad said "are you sure you don't want to work with Tom?" I am upset because I allowed this man into my home and around my father. Dad does not trust many people and change is very difficult for him. He processed everything in the timeframe he could. I even explain in writing, several times, that Dad just needed to process everything. I feel gross for allowing people with such little respect for people into our homes and lives. I feel gross that my sick husband read the inappropriate text from Tom and got upset when he should be focusing on just breathing. Overall we are very satisfied with our newly finished basement. This is a very professional contractor, including all of their subs and employees. Everyone was respectful, accommodating, and very good at their respective trades. The overall attention to detail and precision this company provides is well worth it. I was then assigned a new PM but there was a period of time where it was difficult to get some answers. This was a bit stressful for me as I was balancing a few contractors (plumber for tankless water heater, waterproofing company etc.) schedules doing work in my basement. I did go to Eric who got things resolved pretty quick. I would also suggest that PM expectations are better defined. While I had regular contact with the PM via text, phone, email, I only saw him once during the pre-con meeting, and the final day of the project for the final inspection. I guess I had the wrong impression that the PM would be onsite more often checking in on things (to be fair, they did receive many videos/pics from the team on updates). Sometimes I did have to chase down emails, texts, phone calls to get a response but in the end my request was always addressed and in a manner that I was happy with. The final project included a kids/teen space, kitchenette, bedroom with closet and laundry, full bath, media room, workout room, and office. We got a few quotes but what drew us initially to this company was their responsiveness and care in working with us to make a vision. Basement Remodeling just completed our basement remodeling project, on time and on budget. We couldn't be more pleased! We investigated other remodeling companies but chose Basement Remodeling after our discussions with Eric, in part because we believed we could count on their expertise in handling the inevitable quirks of renovating a 70 year old house. Our project (and budget) was probably fairly modest when compared to many remodeling projects, and Eric offered suggestions for inexpensive problem solving (rehanging existing doors, for example) rather than trying to upsell us on other, more costly solutions. We fully renovated about one-third of the basement space which included the furnace, water heater and a small but completely unfinished laundry area. Shanae was fun to work with and offered great counsel. The weekly schedule Wilfredo provided gave us a general sense of what was happening and when in doubt we could text him and he was very responsive.
