Beware of this company, when you request a quote you will get sent to a subcontracted company, (and your phone will promptly begin receiving a bunch of spam texts). The company I was sent to was HLI Tree Experts and I will copy and paste my experience with them here, but you should know that when we called J&M to complain about our overall experience they told us they would look into it ang get back to us then never took our information down and never got back to us. HLI review: Do not hire this company! If I could give zero stars I would. Sure they gave me a quote quickly that was $100 less than other companies, but their customer service is seriously lacking. Scheduling my appointment was a nightmare that took several days of waiting for them to text me back, and they barely answered my questions. The day before my appointment I confirmed that we were still on the books for the morning, and they replied "yes." Imagine my surprise when 12:00 P.M. rolled around and my tree was still untrimmed and I had not heard from them about being late. Of course I called them to ask if they were just running late since I assumed that another job had just run long, but by 2:00 P.M. I still had no reply. Naturally I called them again just to be sent a text saying "tree" which I guessed was a bad voice-to-text for "3:00." I was a bit annoyed but no big deal. 4:00 P.M. rolled around and my tree still was untrimmed and I had received no more communication from the company. I called them once again only to be sent to voicemail on the first couple of rings, and sent a default "I can't talk right now" text. I left a message asking what was going on an informing them that I was going to call back in 15 minutes if they did not respond. Well this time I got response. They told me they were at a job and would come the next day. This in no way worked with my schedule as I had made the original appointment for that morning a week in advance and I informed them via text I was very upset with their lack of professionalism and to consider that text my cancellation since no, the next day would not work. Silence. The next day after I contacted another company to set up an appointment, HLI sent me a (what I expect to be mostly bullshit) text that they were having equipment problems and all of their jobs had been pushed back a day. This man left my tress cut half way and did not return to finish the job until days later. Not only that he had an RV parked across the street from my house with homeless strange people in it working for him. When my neighbors finally called the police it had been 3 or 4 days of this trailer camped out in front of my house. This is very unprofessional and not only that I had heard the workers yelling at Mike stating that they would not work for him unless he paid them the money he had owed them for a week worth of work. We hired J&M tree service to remove two small trees in our front yard. They changed the date on the removal 3 different times. When they finally showed up, they removed the two trees, and said that they wanted to leave the stumps, and told us to pour bleach into the stumps each day for a week to make sure that the roots were dead. After a week, we called to schedule for them to come back and grind the stumps. It is now 3 months later, and the stumps have not been removed. I have called numerous times, and always get an excuse of why they have not finishes. Wow we had a stump coming out of the side of our yard that was four feet tall and growing out of a hill, it was actually airborne and I was told by three other companies it was not possible to remove until Mikes crew came out and had the stump out all by hand. Mike initially was friendly but Mike & Steve are part of a Bait & Switch & Sue you if You Don't Agree to Pay them for Whatever They Ask For Scam. They Never sent Over a Contract with their Proof of Licensure or Insurance Liability as I requested. They Lied in Telling me They Were Licensed & Bonded as They were in the Trade for over 35 Years and Could BID the Job Based on the Pictures that the Tenants at the property Forwarded to me over the phone and called to BID his price. When I told Him I had other Lower Bids he came down in price and said he could go over to the property later that same day. They never showed up until a day later to BID the Job...So I figured they were no longer interested. Yet I received a text late at night saying they would go over in the Morning and could Start the Job. I told them That I did NOT want them to Start the Job until I received they Contract & Proof of Insurance. I receive a call several hours later to say their Bid Was too Low and they wanted me to send over my other BIDS so they Could Decide on a Fair Price to Remove the Trees & Stumps and said they Could do the Job if they Eliminated the Eucalypti's tree and that they had a crew ready to start...I said I did NOT agree and wanted all the Trees removed or Not at all as I have other Tee Guys who will do it for less...They Said ok they would go ahead and do it at the Agreed price but wanted to know if they could leave the Branches...I said NO and stood firm to my Price. They said they would call me back later... I received a call asking if I could come up and meet them as they decided to get started and the Job and wanted me to meet them...I was stuck in traffic and it was dark and so they said they would be back to finish up the next day. My tenants came home and said there was a mess in the driveway and damages to the Roof, Fence and concrete and wanted to know when they tree guys would be back to finish up. I called Steve & Mike but they never answered until a Day Later I got a Call saying they were ready to complete the job but wanted to meet and renegotiate the price & also wanted me to send them the other BID's that I had received. I was at work and stopped to forward an email on my break with a BID yet told them I had verbal Bids and or needed to Scan the rest of them and did NOT think it should be required or necessary. I also told them that I never received anything in writing from them and wanted them to send over a contract before beginning... They said they already started the job and wanted me to agree to their price increase. When I heard they wanted to triple the price or cut the work in half I did not think it was fair and let them know...They didn't show up the next day and or call back for a couple of days and were continuing to renegotiate for not just a few hundred dollars more but for several thousand dollars...The then turned from being friendly to saying they would put a lien on the property. I asked for his license and he then said he would file a personal injury lawsuit and hung up. He preceded to text me saying he was going to his Doctor and going to tell him that he hurt his back while watching other's work and then go to his lawyer and sue my Homeowners insurance and also tell everyone on Google that I am a "Scammer". Mike and his four-man crew showed up; cut down and cut up all four trees; ground all four stumps down; loaded everything up in their truck; cleaned up the mess; and were outta here in less than 2 hours on a hot, humid Saturday in July. Mike and his crew were really friendly, courteous, and hard workers. Mike even gave us some tips re what to plant in the now palm tree-less area, as well as how to care for our fruit trees. After I sent the 3 photos expressing the tree was much bigger than the photos allow and even after I recommended J & M come out to take a look at the tree to understand the girth of the tree they paid no attention, came out and would not honor their initial quote. I am a disabled VET and cannot do this on my own so I trust the community in which I live and do business to be honorable in their word. I asked for an estimate and they were very detailed and spent time explaining how they trim the palms and how often I should be cutting the branches so it doesn't damage my pool from debris which may end up in the pool if not maintained properly. They explained how fast these trees grow and produce seed pods and when to trim them as well as discussed based on pictures what the price would be for different types of trimming because I wanted to have all the outside extra bark removed. (Wasting my day) Rescheduled for Monday and did show up but had to leave all the trimmings to be picked up later that day. Did not come back for trimmings and said they would be back Tuesday morning to pick them up. Did not show up Tuesday morning and I had to call again to follow up. Finally showed up late that day to shred. Had some palms breaking off the next day and called for them to come back and played phone tag for days and still no resolution. Terrible follow up.
