John was super nice and answered all of my questions. The outside vent cover was super old and brittle and he replaced it. I was watching everything he was doing so I could learn. He pointed out some things to keep an eye out for, but with my setup he said that I should never need service. And if anyone said so, he'd be skeptical. The technicians arrived right on schedule. They were extremely courteous and I asked them to explain the process before they began. The cleaning was thorough as they meticulously went through each vent and the main duct system. As expected there was a slight smell when starting the furnace back up (not dissimilar to how it might smell after being off all summer) but that cleared up quickly. We haven't had them cleaned in the 12 years we've been here (I know, I know...) but I really expected them to be worse. They even replaced the filters on the furnace (I provided them). The pricing was reasonable and comparable to similar services. It took about 3 hours for a 3k sq ft house. We also had them clean out the dryer vent.

After getting some bids, we hired Precision. They were friendly and professional as they installed a new Rheem furnace at a good price. Their expert work relieved our stress, and we haven't had to worry about our furnace ever since. But the condensate pump is older and it recently malfunctioned. It wouldn't stop pumping after the trough was empty. I finally flipped the breaker to prevent it from overheating. Again, it was stressful because we were heading out of town and we wanted our cat to have A/C but we didn't want to leave the the pump connected if it might overheat. I disconnected the power supply to the pump and made an appointment with Precision. Today Moses came to diagnose the pump issue and do a tune-up of the furnace as well as the older A/C unit outside. He explained everything he found in a friendly and coherent manner. The pump seems to be ok although he explained how we could install a better one that will turn off the furnace if the alarm on the pump went off. I decided to keep an eye on the old pump and vinyl drain tube for now. Since we have only relied on Precision to service our furnace and A/C, and since there are upgrades we can potentially hire them to do in the near future, I opted to sign up for their Preventative Service Plan. It gave us discounts on the tune-ups Moses did today and the new capacitor he installed on the A/C. And with the membership we'll get discounts on anything Precision does for us over the next 12 months. We're sticking with Precision because they always provide excellent customer service.
