I'm giving two stars for a few reasons, first my pedicure and gel manicure were fine. That wasn't the problem. The problem was it was completely unorganized. I was moved around from table to table, had two different women complete two different parts of my nails... one women did the base coat, then another filed, then another and so on.... Another thing is when I sat down to get my manicure after my pedi, she started buffing my nails on a completely dirty surface from the previous client... (the women apologized and cleaned it up halfway through)... Also one of the curing lights was broken so I had to move to another table again.... They close at 6 on Saturday's and at around 5 this sweet girl came in (no older than 17) to get her gel extensions removed, the women yelled at her saying that they can't do this and made the poor girl completely uncomfortable, myself included... then the women rips out a business card and started swiping her nails off while the girl is obviously in pain. I literally had to go out of my way and ask if she was okay. As an older sister this was painful for me to watch. Before I left I asked if she was okay being alone in there..,. idk , if all of that didn't happen I wouldve given more stars but for a gel mani and regular pedi I'm spending 87$? Kinda loco when the customer service was not great. read more

Dropped by while waiting for hubby to finish his errands and was a little disappointed with the service. Waxing is over-priced. I was asked to wait over half and hour for nails to dry and then walked out in the cold with the temporary shoes, and no foot cream which dried my feet out completely. Thoroughly disappointed. J&L Nails is great! I moved to Hillsborough about a year ago and was looking for a place that I loved as equally as my old salon. I tried several other salons in the area and kept coming back to Sue and June at J&L. Even though when they are busy their services can take a while, they always are friendly and do an amazing job. I usually get a gel manicure and I've never had an issue with lifting or chipping. In fact, I normally will get a good 3 weeks out of each manicure. They offer a nice variety of pedicures and it's my place for eyebrow waxing too. I can't say enough about them. Sue and June are the owners and they opened a second location on the other side of Hillsborough. June now runs that location. All of the girls are great! **One note of advice- though the salon is not appointment only. Make an appointment, especially if you have to go in the evenings. If you want to walk in, go before 3 pm during the week or at opening on a Sat/Sun morning. read more

This is a pretty late review, but it's never to late to Yelp! I came here with 3 other friends to get a mani/pedi for prom. Apparently they have this special where Monday-Wednesday, a mani/pedi is only $25 ($30 Thursday-Sunday), which is fairly cheap if you think about it. We made an appointment around 4 PM since there were 4 of us and thank god we did! When we stepped in, there were already two people waiting and every booth was full. We got to skip the waiting line and proceed to get either a mani or pedi first. I opted for the pedi first. I got comfortable on the big chair and waited for my nail technician to come around. She prepared the tub of hot water with some sort of chemical inside and told me to dip my feet in. It was way too hot and I asked her to cool it down. She politely did so and proceeded with the pedicure. My technician was nice and had a high detail of orientation. Despite the long line, she did not rush and was sure to be extra careful around my toes. I recall a nice foot massage, an exfoliation, and a moisturizing session. The hot towel she put on my feet was was way too hot however. When she did my pedicure, she also put some oil thing on my toe nails to make them shine. I watched her put two coats of polish on along with a clear coat. She also assisted me in putting my flip flops back on with cotton separating my toes and directed me towards the drying center. The whole pedicure took about 20 minutes I would say. When it was finally my turn to get a manicure, another lady seated me and then stepped on my toenail! She then asked if it was my fault or her fault, even though she was the one that stepped on me... After she redid it, she asked me to pay first and proceeded to do my manicure. She seemed more rushed than the first lady, but was precise in her work. I watched her file and buffer my nails. Just as the first lady did, she also placed a hot towel on my hands. I was finished with my manicure in about 15 minutes and it looked great! My only complaint was that one of the tips (I decided to get a french manicure for $5 extra) was really curved. But by the time I noticed, it was too late. My mani/pedi wasn't terrible, but I've been to better places. I just wish this place was slightly more personable and had better service. I'd come back, but it's not my #1 nail salon. read more

Ridiculously overpriced! $55 for a gel fill?! The nail tech did a good job despite her attitude and seemingly disinterest in her job. The pedicure was NOT worth the $35 they charged me. I left with a jagged nail and cuticles still visible. By the evening, once the 'paraffin' treatment wore off, my heals were still dry and rough. I'm not really a manicure gal. Tonight I ran around H-boro looking for someone who could accommodate a gal who was trying to get some last-minute vacation prep done (wax, pedicure, etc, etc).So, I paid $33 for the special of the day, which was a "jelly" pedicure for $33 (normally $40). The service was slow and I waited a bit before it started, but I never felt terribly inconvenienced. I'm probably going to come back here. The technician, Sunny, was a miracle worker on my feet, which have been taking a bit of a beating lately. Regret trying this place. I don't mind paying a high price for an exceptional service, but unfortunately this place didn't cut it. Extremely overpriced gel fill of $55 (not including tip) for an extremely rushed, sloppy, half-assed job. The staff is nice and they have a wide selection of polishes, but that doesn't excuse the poor service provided. My nails are not evenly filed, the polish looks thick & gloppy, and I'm annoyed that they're so pricey! Really disappointed for trying them out but I guess this is what I get for not making an appointment at my usual "go to" nail salon. read more

I came to J&L nails yesterday for a gel manicure and I am deeply disappointed. It's been not even 24 hours and my gel is cracked and they barely touched my cuticles. They only did one hand, so much for a manicure! When I first came in, they soaked the gel off that i had on, then i sat for my pedicure. The woman was joking around talking to the other stylist next to her, it was incredibly distracting. I asked her for square filing, she did none of the sort. She cut my cuticle, which went ignored and all around I could have done a better job than she did. The paint was inconsistent and it was poor all around. Next, when i sat down for my manicure, the women were all over the place. I had 3 different women work on me, and the paint job on my fingernails was terrible. She painted so far away from my cuticles, they look grown out already. She also painted 3 coats on my fingers, therefore today they have already cracked. I noticed the color on my toes was incredibly light and my cuticles were still bad so I kept staring at them why i was getting my nails painted. They could see I was upset and they painted another coat on top of that .. and they still look terrible. I would never go here again, the staff was nice, but just the quality of their work is not up to par. read more

I really enjoyed my time at this salon! I got a gel manicure, and while it was a tad big pricey ($35) it was totally worth it! Angela did my nails and they are perfect! She was so meticulous, friendly, and warm. She took her time with the polish, made sure the coats/colors were even, and massaged them at the end. Worst manicure I have ever had. The staff is very very nice and helpful but the skill level was terrible. Got a regular mani/pedi and my manicure was beyond sloppy, paint did not fully cover 19 out of 20 of my nails, my previous nail color was left on the outside edges, and was never asked if I liked my nails square or round. The manicurist filed them down to a short square without even asking. She did however ask if I wanted to keep my nails long, I said yes I did, and she filed them short anyway. Worst manicure and pedicure I've ever gotten. The owner is very sweet, but the rest of the staff members are careless and inexperienced. My pedicure was going okay until the technician decided to scrape the bottom of the bottle for the top coat, leaving bubbles all over my toenails. For my manicure, the color I chose wasn't even close to the color painted on the top of the bottle. Meanwhile, the technician doing my nails took "breaks" to chat in between filing each nail. She also did a very poor job of actually painting my nails, making each layer so thin I wasn't even sure she was actually putting any lacquer on the second coat. Very disappointing experience, I would never go here again. read more

I just recently got a pedicure here. I walked in on a Sunday afternoon and they were able to take me right away. The pedicure took a really long time, but in my opinion, it was worth it. I have been other places were the pedicure took longer than usual and it was nothing special. This place felt special. The woman doing my feet took extra care doing the pedicure. She was careful to not be too hard doing my cuticles or rough skin. She also gave the best foot and leg massage, once with exfoliating lotion and a second time with regular lotion. It made my whole body feel relaxed and was truly wonderful. She also gave me a heel callus treatment that I have never experienced before. My feet were looking a little rough after not getting a pedicure for a while and she recognized that. So she put these hot gel packs on my heels. The treatment set while she painted my nails. And when it was over, my heels felt the smoothest they have felt in a really long time. I can't even remember a time they felt and looked so amazing. The cost was affordable and the service was outstanding. Everything was very clean and the people were nice. I was only in town visiting when I came here, and I wish I had a place like this near where I live. read more

Got a gel manicure here and it didn't even last a week. I am very disappointed since this was not my first time here. The polish is cracking and peeling off many of my finger nails. Got a full set of acrylics. Mostly look good except 2 nails are crooked even after I asked her to fix it. Biggest complaint is that when she used the grinder she was sloppy and cut all of my fingers with it. The skin around my nails were sore for like 3 days. It was also way over prices. Incredibly unprofessional. While waiting for my nails to dry realized a top coat was never even put on my nails. Also, got a pedicure and they didn't even rub my feet.. Hey ladies...isn't that the point??? Was not a relaxing atmosphere at all. The pedicure drains were clogged so they continuously had to run a shop vac to vacuum out the foot crud. If that wasn't gross enough they dumped the 'foot crud' from the shop vac in front of the place so on my way out to my car I had to step over a puddle of the unmentionables from the clogged pedi sinks. . . Not impressed at all. The first time I went to this salon the pedicure was pretty good but the acrylic tips I got started breaking within the first week. They also had me pay ahead of time and then I ended up not getting the additional designs on my nails but they didn't refund the money - instead they said "next time." SO NEXT time, I made an appointment. They had so many walk in customers that I had to wait 20 min for my appointment (at 7 months pregnant, waiting an extra 20 min in uncomfortable chairs was not fun). Then my pedicure was rushed (it was almost closing time) and while getting a pedicure, another girl came over to start doing my nails. The manicure was sloppy and they didn't give me the $credit from the previous visit. This place also has poor ventilation. Since then, I've gone to Fancy Nails and fell in love with their clean salon, friendly staff and awesome pedicures and manicures. read more

I was looking for a new salon to get my nails done that was less expensive, so I looked on yelp and I found J&L nails. The ratings were good so I gave it a shot. Well, as I walked in I got dirty looks form the employees. When I sat down with my color the women who was doing my nails started talking about me in a language that I do not speak or understand which was very rude, as well as taking a phone call while doing my nails. Then she proceeded to rush through my pedicure break one of my nails and file the rest to different lengths and make them corked. Same experience with my manicure, plus when I asked for a extra coat of my color I was met with much resistance. I could not wait to get out of there, it was 40 min to closing when they took me, and as soon as they were done they took their keys and left, I didn't even get to give a tip (not that it would have been a good one). When I got home I also noticed that the job they had done was very sloppy I have polish all over my skin, the wax they put on my heals was still there. Anyway, I highly recommend going else where despite the positive reviews this was a very bad experience and I do not recommend going. read more
