This is basically a one man operation - a general contractor named Jim Napier. I wish I could speak to the quality of work, but it was impossible to schedule anything with him. We were trying to get a small half-bath renovated, because our house just got put on the market.
Arranging a visit for an estimate took 3 or 4 texts and phone calls. Arranging the actual work took another 3 or 4. He rescheduled one appointment at the last minute due to a personal emergency (of which I am now very skeptical).
The day before he was supposed to finally start the work (a Friday), I texted him to ask when he's planning to arrive, and I get this text back:
"Need to make it Mon for got I had a doctor appointment they sent me a text today hopefully will it work".
I've been caught off guard by those reminders, too, but I'm not running a one-man client-focused business. Learn how to use a calendar.
I responded with:
"Well, we have an open house this Sunday so that's a major disappointment." (The truth)
His reply:
"You know it's going to take more than one day right"
He then proceeds to call me, and without the slightest attempt at an apology just starts going into all the details of the job, as if any of that matters when my real issue is that he can't stick to a scheduled appointment. I didn't yell or curse on the phone. I was extremely civil, but I definitely made it clear that I was tired of the runaround he was giving me.
The next morning (7:00 AM the day we were expecting the work to be done), I got this text:
"After talking to you last night I felt there was a little problem with the job before I even started so I don't want to do the job because I don't want any problems so have to get another contractor sorry"
Unbelievable. He can't deal with a client expressing the slightest bit of displeasure at an obvious mistake on his part.
If you want to work with a contractor who's ready to bail on your project at the last minute if you upset him in the slightest (over something that was totally his own fault), by all means give this guy a call. Maybe his work is good. Who knows. read more
