Ryan is a tremendous a-hole that does mediocre at best work. He won't call dig safe, leaves that up to you, but also completely doesn't care whether they come. At first he told me it would be 2 months before he could start the fence, then he called the following week saying he'd be there in 2 days - dig safe requires at least 72 hours. Dig Safe told me I would be liable if he damaged anything, and that he should know this is not an acceptable lead time, so I pushed back on him, asking to come a couple days later. He berated and threatened me on the phone and hung up on me, saying he would be by in 3 months. Called him back and this man-child didn't want to talk to me - he had the woman on the phone relate the conversation. He convinced me i had misunderstood dig safe, and it wouldn't be a problem - they started work before dig safe came. Thankfully nothing happened, but he admitted he'd hit things numerous times in the past. We spoke in person after the fact and we both apologized for getting upset.
A day before work began, a trailer full of materials showed up on my lawn with zero notice or asking if where they put it was ok. It stayed there for weeks.
He sub-contracted the overwhelming majority of the work (which he did not say he would be doing). They did an *ok* job, but some of the posts sank over the course of the next few weeks, which left the top of the fence a little uneven. Nice guys, though.
A few weeks(!!!) after the panels were installed (after repeatedly promising to be by within a day or two), Ryan himself came with a couple others to hang the gates and install the post caps. His "solution" for one remaining post to secure one gate was to drill holes downward into a stone wall. Thank god we were moving soon - no idea how long that post will last but I'm sure it'll be the first to fail.
I heard a conversation he had on the phone in which he was yelling and swearing. After a minute, the person he was speaking to apparently began to cry because he then mocked her for crying over his abuse. This was all over another employee's actions.
Some wires got crossed between my wife and I - I had assumed she would be signing a contract when she dropped off the initial deposit, she assumed I had already signed a contract. NO CONTRACT ever existed. We realized this after work had already started. Sure, this is partly on us, but how anybody can think this is an OK way to do business is beyond me.
I was told his warranty was contingent on keeping the sign in his front yard, and would not be transferrable to the new owner of the house, and we were moving soon after the work was to be done.
*edit*: After posting this review, Ryan reached out to me personally, and asked to get in contact with the new owners so he could transfer the warranty to them (among a few other things which I won't get into). I told him if he transfers the warranty, I would improve the rating and amend my review to reflect the update on the warranty. He tried to get me to take down my review, which i refused. I've since received a document reflecting that the warranty has been transferred to the new owners. This is great, and i'm glad for the new owners, and it's good that Ryan transferred it to them, though it's disappointing that it required a 1-star review. /edit
I wouldn't hire Ryan for anything - even to sink a mailbox, let alone a fence or deck. BEWARE! DO NOT HIRE! read more
