We joined some very old friends from Miami for dinner at J Alexander's tonight. we are not celebrating anything special, but it's always special when we get to see these people who we've known for many years. My husband and my friend's husband both had the pork chop with broccoli and mashed potatoes, which was amazing! The pork chop was between four and 5 inches thick and came with this incredible sauce. Additionally the broccoli was served with a little bit of olive oil and some Parmesan cheese, and it was divine. my woman friend had the seared tuna steak with wild rice and spaghetti, squash, and there was plenty to take home as there was with both my husband and her husband. I asked our waitress, Raven, how thick the swordfish was because as a Newlander, I know that swordfish should be at least an inch thick to be somewhat tasty and not dry out. She assured me that it was quite thick, and showed me with her fingers, although she didn't say how many inches. When it arrived, the couscous was very nice. The broccoli again delicious, but the swordfish was about a quarter inch thick, and even with the sauce it was dried out. I was unhappy, and when my husband spoke to her about it, Raven basically pushed back and said "I told you how thick it was". Regardless, we were fortunate to meet one of the managers, Drew, Martin, and he took my dinner off the bill, apologized and asked me if there was anything else we would like him to do. There was not. His jester is what should've been done by a manager, which we truly appreciated. I do highly recommend this restaurant because it is consistently good however, if you are a swordfish lover, I would not order the swordfish, special dish. First time trying J. Alexander's for Valentine's Day dinner with my husband and friends. Location very busy and the interior has a nice decor. Very disappointed with the overall service, especially since it was Valentine's Day and everything was expected to be fantastic. One waiter who was not very attentive to our table during our stay. Immediate asked what we wanted to drink and then asked to place entire order right from the start. We were still looking at the specials and menu so this interruption to ask us to place entire order was not a good way to start. We asked for cocktails first, then when ordering appetizers again asked what we wanted for dinner. Asked to place dinner once finished with our appetizers. Appetizers came and then there was our waiter asking what we wanted for dinner, and yes we stopped enjoying our appetizers to order dinner. Special Oscar Filet was just okay and a little disappointed because everyone raves about their steaks. Ordered espresso martini and coffee along with dessert, and coffee and desserts came out but no martini. After finishing our desserts, the martini made an appearance. When spending close to $400 for dinner for 4, y I r would and should expect Top Notch everything, but this was not the case. Would I try this location again, maybe but not anytime soon. Overall the menu was standard and the pricing high for what was served. Overall can only give 2 star rating. Hands down, Houston's has the BEST Top Notch service with similar pricing but the food/menu is stellar!!! well, I will say that the service was very warm and the atmosphere was actually kind of nice somewhat like don't get me wrong the server that we had. She was very nice. One ginormous flaw which i'll get into is the food. so I'm pretty open to any sort of cuisine when it comes to food so I don't discriminate, but one of the biggest issues was that the burger and the fries I had extremely lacked in seasoning. My burger was done, medium rare and honestly, I don't think I would be able to tell the difference between that or well done considering of how just underwhelming the burger was in general. And that's just the burger that's including the fries which needed a **** ton of pepper just to make up for the fact that they lacked seasoning as well... while the service is nice it unfortunately falls very short and does not make up for the fact that the food is God awful. This is food that I wouldn't even feed my own dogs with and I don't know if the chef was having a bad day but clearly we were the ones suffering from it. The process is also was a very questionable standpoint as well because we saw that in general it was supposed to be two signs but our bill for three people came out to $85??? I mean don't get me wrong that was including tip but wow Jesus Christ the food was awful and we had to pay a fortune for it as well? Like don't get me wrong like I'm not cheap. Never not a GREAT meal at J's. I've grown up in Plantation, and J's has been a regular in my family's rotation of great neighborhood restaurants, with consistently great food, forever. Tonight, our party of three ordered the Cypress Salad, Grilled Chicken Salad and Old Fashioned Cheeseburger. I love the chicken they use in the Grilled Chicken Salad. It's always cooked perfectly. You can't go wrong with anything you choose from their menu. Some of our favorites are their Veggie Burger (which comes with the most delicious shoestring fries), Grilled Salmon, Ahi Tuna Filet. I'll be honest I didn't really enjoy our experience. We had reservations at 7:30 sat down by 7:40 and were out by 8:40. Service was too quick. I didn't feel like we got to enjoy our experience and it's not how I wanted to spend my birthday. Everything just seemed rushed. The reason for the 4 stars is because everything was made correctly. We sat inside and it was nice but everything just seemed too busy. Most people would think that it's a good thing but when you feel rushed and you're not able to enjoy your meal at any cost. I love this place. This isn't my first run-in with the JA group. It won't be my last. I love the bar seating the bartenders are great. They have about 25-30 chairs. It's really great for a date or sitting by yourself for a quick bite. Food is always good. Doesn't matter what it is! We have been to J's a dozen times for family gatherings but this last time turned me off. The atmosphere is pleasant and the staff is attentive and caring. Yum! I really enjoyed my dinner here. I had heard great things about this place so J was excited to try it. I walked in and thought this place makes me feel like I am in Denver. It smelled woodsy and it just seemed like it was not in Florida. I love that. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. I made a reservation and I am glad I did because it gets very crowded. I really enjoyed my meal here. We ordered a bottle of Chardonnay to start. It was ok. Not my favorite. We each ordered a Burger. I ordered it with fries and would probably choose a different side next time. The fries were OK. They give a lot of them but they did not have too much flavor. You get your choice of many sides but I wanted a b9urger with fries. My burger was excellent. The bun was really fresh and I loved the flavor of the burger. It was different. It add some nice grilled onions on it. Our server was great but I never got her name. I also liked the atmosphere and the restaurant overall. It was very busy. Luckily we made a reservation. Consistently excellent food. I have been going to this and the Fort Lauderdale locations for years. I have also been in Boca and Tennessee. The service is quality, and they have the best house made veggie burger. Processed impossible burgers and other fake meats can't compare to the real foods they use to make their veggie burgers. I really hope they never change it like so many places that made that unfortunate switch. Their veggie burgers are treated with the same care as beef burgers. They serve it on a big bun with all the toppings and condiments, and the skinny fries are delicious. The baked potatoes are also excellent. The salads are great with great dressings. I have to be really honest; I was super underwhelmed by it. It's supposedly a 10 ounce fillet with Bernaise Sauce (on the side, I assume as mine was) and a baked potato. Size wise it was so-so but thickness wise it was below par for sure & It had a spicy taste (which repeated on me for hours), which I don't know where that came from because I understood that there's only butter sizzled on. I really can't recommend it and won't have it again and it's nothing to do about price as the price of $49 with a side is on the low side and which also shouldn't be a factor. The steak regardless wasn't good and should be better. I ordered it medium + not Medium Well and it was mostly MW. I'm not encouraged to really order any steaks there in the future. read more

Our waiter was attentive the entire time and there was also support staff swinging by our table to make sure we were well taken care of. There was a minor mistake with one of our deserts and not only did they comp them but they also overheard me say that I was visiting from out of town and that I came just for the key line pie so somebody came out with a box of an extra slice of pie for me to bring home. Man o man!!! We were in the area on an overnight stay three weekends ago and stopped by J.... It was INCREDIBLE!! I had the seared tuna (my favorite) and my wife ordered a seafood entree that was the days special. Our reservation, which you definitely should have on the weekends, was right on time. Our booth seating was quite comfortable. Although I was disappointed receiving three of what appeared to be thin tail pieces of Mahi for the Fresh Catch of Day sandwich instead of a single meatier portion of a filet served on prior visits. My MIL and I decided to stop for lunch at J Alexanders for lunch. I haven't been there in years, but used to go often as I worked nearby. We got there at noon and were greeted warmly by the hostess. They do follow all Covid protocol, and they did take our temperature. The menus are paper and easy to read. We sat near the bar in a booth and looked at the menu. My MIL LOVES the THAI KAI SALAD - $18.00 - (Chicken, mixed greens, peanuts in a cilantro vinaigrette with Thai peanut sauce.) I tried a bite and it was delicious. It is full of chicken and really was flavorful. While I am not fond of peanuts, I think I would try it without the peanuts on it. I decided to order the STEAK BURGER - $16.00 (Ground beef tenderloin and ribeye, Tillamook cheddar, grilled onions and Kiawah Island dressing.) only no cheese or grilled onions and a side of Southern Coleslaw. The burger was cooked perfectly (medium rare) and came with arugula , and tomatoes. It was really good. The bun was fresh and held together while I was eating it. The mix of beef tenderloin and ribeye was awesome ! Lots of flavor - and add the Kiawah island dressing (similar to a thousand island with a kick in it) made for a very tasty burger. The southern coleslaw was ok. Regular mayo based coleslaw sprinkled with celery seed. I would try another side in the future. They offer both lunch and dinner options at lunch. Some of the items are a bit high, especially when they charge $23.00 for 1/2 a chicken. Really? It is organic, but a rotisserie chicken? Like the whole chicken that you buy at Publix or Whole Food or where ever for $10.00 ??? But I thought the salads and burgers were on point.
