What a sleeper...live in Louisville for over 20 years now and only tried this place 2 months ago. I've already been back 5 times. Tried the filet and baked potato the first time, while my husband got the pecan encrusted trout. Both were delicious, but I am truly obsessed with the trout. It is delicious with or without the sauce, light, mild, scrumptious. We've tried the branzino, deviled eggs, and the best chocolate cake. All the food is great, and that particular dessert is insanely delicious. It is the best chocolate cake that anyone could imagine. The service has always been classic, fine dining service. The atmosphere is elegant, classic. read more

Never say never I guess! I'm not sure what was going on Saturday night but it was a mess. The hostess was scattered and sat us by the kitchen which was terrible! We quickly moved to the bar and from there everything just got worse. I sent my Caesar Salad back twice!!! Both times they served me old lettuce. I mean seriously?! I've never gotten served an old salad from here. The only good thing was our spinach queso dip. After the salad mishap we decided to leave and go somewhere else. I didn't trust who was working that night! read more

went there last night. we got the deviled eggs and we both liked them. we both ordered a salad and we enjoyed them. I ordered the pork loin and came with some bang sauce which was delicious. the loin was super tender. I substituted the mashed potatoes for the macaroni and cheese. the macaroni was delightful. my wife ordered the steak and fries and she loved it. no military discount. being my birthday they gave us complimentary carrot cake with cream cheese icing. their cake is the best. it's a little pricey for 2 people. it was $99. read more

Had a mobile order and the portion of one of the items was half of what it normally is. I called and they said no problem, we'll have it fresh for you if you wanna come back. I wait and then a manager comes up there and says "why didn't you bring the food with you? I'm not giving you free food." Like if I paid for it it's not free goofball, I was also told to come up here. Too nice of a restaurant to have miscommunication like that. read more

The food was amazing however, the service was not the best. We've been to J Alexander's many times before and they are usually extremely attentive but our server (Trey) barely spoke to us, didn't offer the specials, and didnt check to see if our plates needed to be picked up or our waters filled. We know that there are busers as well but, the main server is in charge of the table. read more

The food and service were very good. The reason for the 3 stars is the atmosphere. The restaurant atmosphere is somewhat not classy at all and it stinks so bad like marijuana in the whole restaurant. It kills the vibe of being a "nice restaurant ". read more

Food was very good, Service was great as well. The only problem was the salad came out with Bleu cheese and we requested without. They remade it and all was good. Spacious restaurant with mostly booths instead of table with chairs read more

Edit to previous review...they have added a 6% package fee to their take out orders, a big thumbs down. Also, it has been a bit since I was last here, but the salads have jumped in price to $20. Yes, they are big, but it seems high. The food quality remains great and food is delicious, but with the higher cost, sadly.it will be awhile before I go back, if I ever do... read more

#37 of 52 (weeks of trying a new restaurant at least once a week) We were in town for a funeral and heard this place was good so we have it a try. Really nice and inviting inside. Our server was great! My honey got the prime rib sandwich with Mac and cheese and I got the trout with mashed potatoes and broccoli. We also decided to share a side salad. The salad came out first and it was so big I told the server it wasn't ours. There was no way that large salad was the side salad. Come to find out she came back with a salad and it was the side salad but it was super huge. We got ranch on it which was good and I really appreciated all the toppings on the salad. Our meals didn't take too long and everything looked really good so we dug in. My honey said his prime rib was really nice and moist and the Mac and cheese was phenomenal. I loved the trout because where I live we don't have fish like that so it was really a treat to get something so light and flaky. Really glad we stopped and if we lived in the area we'd definitely we regulars. read more

This review is for dinner for two at the bar on a Monday in late March. We've eaten in eight different J. Alexanders. They are uniformly excellent and Louisville is no exception. service: Bar staff was very professional and accommodating. Food runners and other waitstaff were outstanding. bar: My Bulleit Rye Manhattan ($16 as of 03/2025) was the usual fantastic rendition. At the bartender's suggestion, my wife had a glass of Austin Hope Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon ($15) and thought it was great. food: My wife was thrilled to see Grilled Pork Tenderloin ($26) on the menu. This isn't available in every location and it's exceptional. She subbed their excellent orzo and wild rice for the usual smashed reds. I had the Steak Burger ($18) and it was great. Their fries are not to be missed. details: The place was packed on a Monday night. Reservations highly recommended, especially for the weekend. It's on the outskirts of a mall, so there's plenty of surface parking right outside. Although J Alexanders does not have a dress code, the place is upscale and nice. read more

The good: the salmon was excellent. As was the chicken salad. The carrot cake served warm was delightful and coconut added a special touch. The eh? Bernie sauce did not taste like a Bernie sauce. Lacked the tarragon and was overly thick. One tenderloin was chewy and lacked flavor. The other was fine. The price is high. Entree comes with one side, no salad(up charge) and no bread (an up charge). Ambiance and service were great! Our wait staff were very attentive and booths were comfortable and secluded enough that your conversations were not dominated by noise from the restaurant read more

Food and service is always outstanding. Enjoy having dinner here with friends. The queso is the best appetizer. Love the rattle snack pasta.

Things went well until we got home and realized that my husband had a reaction to an ingredient. The server assured us that there was no onion or garlic (He has an allium intolerance) Unfortunately he cannot detect it until hours later. He suffered all the next day. So frustrating. Because of that, I cannot give a positive review. read more

*****RECEIVED reply from restaurant****** WHY WOULD anyone these days give "another Chance" to high prices for mostly mediocre meal with LOTS of carbs (Fries). I DONT PAY for learning curve or mediocre food.!! MY son and I decided on late lunch/early dinner. Wasn't busy around 4pm. Disappointed we weren't offered the complimentary bread square & butter. Regardless, We ordered appetizer of spinach conqeso and chips. Very tasty very hot and chips were crunchy and not too salty, like other places. My son ordered a steak burger. I ordered a spicy chicken sandwich which had coleslaw on it. Both came with large portions of thin cut fries. His steak sandwich was Very good and could taste the quality of the meat. My spicy chicken sandwich had the coleslaw on bottom bun half and hard to hold plus bun was wet and soggy. Typically coleslaw served on top of protein. Fries were "ok" but not hot and a bit undercooked. Service was attentive ad excellent. While food was fair to good, I would give a 3.5 * but will give it a 3. Not on our return place because there shouldn't be a learning curve for food. Look at the pictures and you be the judge. read more

Always a fine experience dining here! This is nice place to go out with family, date nights, or any special occasion! Normally love this restaurant. Today we found a hair in the clam chowder. We didn't stay for any other food. Be careful and watch what's on your plate. The other issue is how long we waited for a manager to come to the table after this happened. The manger apologized asked if we wanted any food. Not sure why somelne would think that after finding hair we would want anything from the kitchen. read more

Excellent as always! Wonderful service, a great meal, and an overall enjoyable experience!

We live close to J. Alexander's and visit a couple times per year. Everything we have ever ordered has been good. Our favorite items are the grilled chicken salad and the cheeseburger. The service has always been consistent and it has a nice vibe. It's a solid choice for a chain restaurant that serves classic American food. read more

Ordered online and called in to let restaurant know I had arrived for pickup. It is really odd that the person answering the phone only say hello. Not thanks for calling xyz. The management definitely needs to have that changed as it's unprofessional and confusing for patrons calling. I received my order on time, however they forgot 2 items from my order, even though the staff assured me they triple checked that everything was bagged. Everything was prepared correctly and as I ordered. The food was satisfactory to all. I enjoyed the deviled eggs with the bacon on top. I'd recommend everyone double check your to go order no matter what staff says. read more

Delicious food, great portions and good atmosphere. We've never had a bad experience.

This place could deliver great food on any given day but occasionally they don't . When they make a mistake Management tries to cover it and never apologize . Just 2 weeks I ordered the rotisserie chicken . It was bad chicken , it tasted old and decomposing not fresh . When I asked for another chicken I was told they all taste the same and was not able to get same entree but they continued to serve it to others . Stupid Management read more

Good food and drinks. Friendly service and nice atmosphere. We enjoyed having celebrated our happy event there.

Food was great as always. However, I was never more insulted by a server. His name is Tyse and he spent approximately 90% of the time we were there talking with the family in the booth across from us. As it turned out, he never actually "served" anything to us (except the check of course). Various other people served our food throughout the evening. Our view was mainly his backside during our entire meal. I am so insulted that I am not sure I will dine there again. I certainly hope that whoever supervises him will address this issue. I truly have never had such an experience before! read more

So let me start off by being very transparent - Redlands wasn't my first, second or even third choice but I somehow ended by Oxmoor after driving to several spots in the Highlands & Grinstead area that were overbooked and way too populated in these still COVID-19 times. J. Alexander's parking lot was not overly crowded. You guys I have not been to this restaurant in over a decade! When I walked in I was immediately greeted and there was an hour wait for a table but the hostess directed me to the bar which was immediately left in a separate room that had open seating. As soon as I sat down at the bar, Marlene one of the bartenders greeted me. If you follow me then you know being acknowledged is extremely important to me. She cleaned off my area and immediately provided me with the menu and a roll of silverware. I ordered an Old Fashioned and substituted Woodford Double Oaked instead of the designated Bulliet Bourbon. The OF was made well with a nice orange peel and a Luxardo cherry. They also have specialty square ice. Very tasty. Their menu has a great variety for people who want salads, chicken, steak or seafood. I ended up ordering a Caesar salad with tomatoes and for dinner I ordered the New York strip medium rare with smashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese and green beans. So my steak came out more medium that medium rare but I have to say it was absolutely perfect. The flavor and the seasoning were really delicious. Typically I order a filet cut and I think medium rare just taste better for that type of cut but I was totally satisfied with a medium rare to medium for the strip and I may start choosing a strip more often. They melt butter on top of theirs and it just makes it!!! My side choices were all good. I'm really picky when it comes to macaroni and cheese and their did not disappoint, they use small pasta shells and the flavor, texture and top crust were all as they should be - other restaurants in Louisville could learn from the chefs and cooks at this restaurant. My green beans were delicious and not over cooked and the smashed potatoes were as expected. Also the portions here are huge! I was able to take my leftovers and have a whole meal the next day. For dessert I ordered the carrot cake and I was blown away!!! They serve theirs hot. Imagine hot & moist carrot cake with the perfect amount of sweetness. It was delicious. As usual, I forgot to take pictures but remembered to get a Picture of the carrot cake about two bites in. Redlands will now be fit into my safe & normal rotation. I will be back! read more
