What a sleeper...live in Louisville for over 20 years now and only tried this place 2 months ago. I've already been back 5 times. Tried the filet and baked potato the first time, while my husband got the pecan encrusted trout. Both were delicious, but I am truly obsessed with the trout. It is delicious with or without the sauce, light, mild, scrumptious. We've tried the branzino, deviled eggs, and the best chocolate cake. Never say never I guess! I'm not sure what was going on Saturday night but it was a mess. The hostess was scattered and sat us by the kitchen which was terrible! We quickly moved to the bar and from there everything just got worse. I sent my Caesar Salad back twice!!! Both times they served me old lettuce. I mean seriously?! I've never gotten served an old salad from here. The only good thing was our spinach queso dip. After the salad mishap we decided to leave and go somewhere else. We went last night for our wedding anniversary. The salads are always good. We got the deviled eggs and my wife loved them. They were ok. We got the calamari. I wish they were crispier but ok. I got the ribs with a veggie skewer. The ribs had a good flavor. My wife enjoyed her steak and fries. My son got the chicken tenders and fries. He told me he likes the flavor of popeyes tenders better. They gave us a delicious piece of carrot cake to celebrate our wedding Anniversary. That was delicious and very nice of them. #37 of 52 (weeks of trying a new restaurant at least once a week) We were in town for a funeral and heard this place was good so we have it a try. Really nice and inviting inside. Our server was great! My honey got the prime rib sandwich with Mac and cheese and I got the trout with mashed potatoes and broccoli. We also decided to share a side salad. The salad came out first and it was so big I told the server it wasn't ours. There was no way that large salad was the side salad. Come to find out she came back with a salad and it was the side salad but it was super huge. We got ranch on it which was good and I really appreciated all the toppings on the salad. Our meals didn't take too long and everything looked really good so we dug in. My honey said his prime rib was really nice and moist and the Mac and cheese was phenomenal. This review is for dinner for two at the bar on a Monday in late March. We've eaten in eight different J. Alexanders. They are uniformly excellent and Louisville is no exception. service: Bar staff was very professional and accommodating. Food runners and other waitstaff were outstanding. bar: My Bulleit Rye Manhattan ($16 as of 03/2025) was the usual fantastic rendition. At the bartender's suggestion, my wife had a glass of Austin Hope Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon ($15) and thought it was great. food: My wife was thrilled to see Grilled Pork Tenderloin ($26) on the menu. This isn't available in every location and it's exceptional. She subbed their excellent orzo and wild rice for the usual smashed reds. I had the Steak Burger ($18) and it was great. Their fries are not to be missed. details: The place was packed on a Monday night. Reservations highly recommended, especially for the weekend. Normally love this restaurant. Today we found a hair in the clam chowder. We didn't stay for any other food. Be careful and watch what's on your plate. The other issue is how long we waited for a manager to come to the table after this happened. The manger apologized asked if we wanted any food. Regardless, We ordered appetizer of spinach conqeso and chips. Very tasty very hot and chips were crunchy and not too salty, like other places. My son ordered a steak burger. I ordered a spicy chicken sandwich which had coleslaw on it. Both came with large portions of thin cut fries. His steak sandwich was Very good and could taste the quality of the meat. My spicy chicken sandwich had the coleslaw on bottom bun half and hard to hold plus bun was wet and soggy. Typically coleslaw served on top of protein. Fries were "ok" but not hot and a bit undercooked. Service was attentive ad excellent. While food was fair to good, I would give a 3.5 * but will give it a 3. Not on our return place because there shouldn't be a learning curve for food. Look at the pictures and you be the judge. read more

The management definitely needs to have that changed as it's unprofessional and confusing for patrons calling. I received my order on time, however they forgot 2 items from my order, even though the staff assured me they triple checked that everything was bagged. Everything was prepared correctly and as I ordered. The food was satisfactory to all. I enjoyed the deviled eggs with the bacon on top. Food was great as always. However, I was never more insulted by a server. His name is Tyse and he spent approximately 90% of the time we were there talking with the family in the booth across from us. As it turned out, he never actually "served" anything to us (except the check of course). Various other people served our food throughout the evening. Our view was mainly his backside during our entire meal. I am so insulted that I am not sure I will dine there again. I certainly hope that whoever supervises him will address this issue.
