Worst ensalada de fruta ever! Lady was upset when I asked if it was fresh. No fresh diced up fruit or Nances! We gotta do better or not even open restaurants! To make matters worse I took a non-Salvadoran homie after I hyped the "ensalada de fruta". I told him delete all files this one doesn't count.

My Mom was craving homestyle breakfast and we decided to try this place. It did not disappoint. The service as well as the food was delicious and hit the spot! I'm definitely going back for more.

The vegan plate had black beans, white rice, plantains, and a side salad. The bandeja paisa had beans, a fried egg, chicharron, steak, rice, plantain, and chorizo. The meat was perfectly grilled but the chicharron was a little tough but still good. The vegan plate had much flavor -- the beans were tasty and the rice fresh. They were very generous with the plantains. The complimentary tortilla chips and salsa were so fresh and delicious. The spinach empanada was a little tough - it was crispy but there was less spinach than I would have expected and the cheese in it wasn't really melted either. Overall the food was very fresh and delicious. Parking can be tricky bc their lot fits only 3 cars. We parked a couple blocks in the neighborhood. Front of the store parking also seems limited. Service was kind and efficient. Food came out in less than 5-10 minutes. Place is well decorated and has nice seemingly traditional decor inside.

Well finally we were in the area for a game and got to stop by! Firstly, the space wasn't the fanciest and the service wasn't very welcoming at all in fact the server seemed super grumpy which was surprising since we were the only customers there. A warm welcome or hello would have made us feel more comfortable. Anyway we sat ourselves because there was a sign that M-F you seat yourselves and order from QR code. We started to but the. The server removed the sign and brought us menus. Anyway they have a nice happy hour which allowed us to sample some yummy items that are hard to make or find. Husband ordered a bacalaito (a fish fritter looks like a tostada) and pastelillos (puerto Rican version of empanadas) de pollo and carne. All so delish! Although if you're used to bacalito from the island, this one was a little thicker and different but still good. For entrees we ordered the pollo guisao (chicken stew) and pernil plates. Our favorite part was the arroz con gandules. One bite took us instantly back to the island to my mother in laws house. It was a little more oily than it should be but the flavor was on point. Husband liked his pernil but we wouldn't order the chicken dish again. Anyway by the end of our meal the awkwardness with our server eased up and he actually smiled and joked with us (in his own grumpy way) by the end. They seemed to have consistent to go orders by regular customers which is def a good sign. Also saw the server cleaning front windows and tables which is important to me because it shows that they care and the kind of place I'd return to!

We drove an hour to get here and arrived right when they opened. The gentleman at the counter greeted us warmly and asked if we'd ever had Puerto Rican food before. We told him about our trip and how much we'd loved the food, and from there, he proceeded to walk us through every single item on the menu--including the drinks and desserts. He was incredibly welcoming and clearly proud of the food they serve. After plenty of deliberation, we finally placed our orders. We started with the bacalaitos--a thin, crispy cod fritter served with garlic sauce. A tad greasy, yes, but what a treat! Then came what we had driven an hour for: the mofongo. Between the three of us, we ordered the pernil (slow-roasted pork shoulder), the churrasco with chimichurri, and the shrimp with garlic sauce. These are definitely not light meals, but WOW. The flavors were impeccable--rich, garlicky, savory, and incredibly satisfying. It immediately brought back memories of the food we loved so much in Puerto Rico. Needless to say, we found our mofongo spot. And yes, we will absolutely make the trek again.

Every visit, the food is flavorful, delicious, and worth coming back for! One thing I would recommend to anyone visiting is to come with some extra time and patience. Service and food preparation can take a while, as dishes are prepared fresh upon ordering. To their credit, the restaurant is very transparent about this and even has signage reminding customers that good food takes time, which I appreciate! While the wait can be a downside, especially if you're in a rush, I think it's important to set that expectation before visiting. This is definitely a place to sit down, enjoy the experience, and not feel rushed. Overall, Puchica continues to deliver delicious and consistent Guatemalan food from what I order (recommend the Antojitos Puchica to get a little taste of everything and main dishes such as Carne Asada or Lengua en Salsa de Tomate). I will happily keep coming back! Highly recommend, just be mindful of the wait time of service and meal prep (but there is always seating available)!

The food is like no where else, it is delicious and different! Definitely give them a try!
