You'll hafta indulge yoyr favorite Yelp correspondent on this review, fellow Yelpers, because my phone was undergoing a repair...so today's review lacks photos but, rest assured, I'll compensate w/ an armory of descriptive words to recount how our lunch at Mariscos Ixtapa went. Upon arrival, Mariscos Ixtapa seizes your attention with its thrumming sound system, a festive Mexican beat thrumming loudly through the air, leaving a tantalizing tempo in its wake. From its colorful design choices and pulsing beat, guests are transported to their choice of exotic Mexican ports including Puerto Vallarta, Cabo San Lucas, Cozumel or, yes, of course the namesake Ixtapa. My bride, still effortlessly the prettiest girl at the ball almost thirty years after we first met, ordered a lime margarita and shrimp cocktail. Me? I don't eat seafood so my order was as straightforward as it was vanilla- An asada burrito with sour cream added. You can instantly taste the TLC with which the staff hand forms its tortillas. My burrito was good-sized, a bona fide two-fister! Leti's marg was good sized and, at $12.50, a good price point in today's over-inflated times. We both felt that the margarita was a wee bit ligh in terms of the tequila. If a well made Cadillac Marg packs a Mike Tyson style uppercut, today's 'Rita was much more akin to the "machine gun taps" my two cats blister each other with, when annoyed. Ixtapa shows tremendous potential as a top-flight destination of choice for Rivrsideans- In order to make that next jump, I'd suggest that mgmt consider: * Utilizing the ample rear patio space- To increase seating and boost the "churn" of completed meals being dispatched/table. When we visited, 3pm on a busy SAT afternoon, Ixtapa was busy with guests awaiting their seats thronged out in front; don't squander those opportunities to bolster your seating and revenues! * Enhanced training of service staff- We had to repeatedly summon our server for items that we customarily take for granted. Examples are legion- Getting our drinks refilled, takeout containers or our bill. Leti and I look forward to future visits and to seeing if our recommendations were adopted. SUPER GOOD FISH CEVICHE + Pina Colada!! Definitely felt like I was on the beach in Mexico. Service was also really well, shoutout to Jocelyn & Nancy who were very attentive and moving as fast as they could be on a busy Friday. Absolutely amazing dining experience! The hostess greeted and seated us with a smile. Ambiance just feels good. You feel like yes this is going to be good as soon as you walk in. Drinks and food are on a different level! Everything is served with passion. The drinks as well as the food look like they are prepared with care. Service is very good and attentive. When this restaurant first opened my wife and I came a few times. Been a while since we came back. Tonight me and two friends came to watch the Brazil game and hopefully eat some good food. The food was amazing! We had oyster shots, bomb! Got the torre mixta, bomb! Then we had a ceviche tostada, bomb!!! All the salsas were great, the beans were great! We got a Michalada and some margaritas, everything was great and came out pretty fast. But the star of the night was our amazing server Maricela!!! We love her!!! She made our experience ever more fun! Yes the food was amazing but I would could back just for her! Just to add... the restaurant was very clean as were the restrooms, which is a must! My wife and I went in for breakfast. We enjoy chilaquiles but are not usually satisfied with restaurant chilaquiles. This place has raised the bar. The food was delicious. The portions were excellent. The service was great. Our waitress was really nice. This place just felt like going to eat my mom's house when there is a family gathering. Their prices are fair. The place is decent size. Did not wait in line. The service was okay. They attended us promptly but they forgot to give us utensils. Also, there was a group of men in the corner drinking beer and being overly loud. They began to spit on the floor which was pretty nasty. Parking is a bit of a hassle. The restaurant itself is actually pretty cool aesthetically. The atmosphere has a lively vibe and the décor fits the mariscos theme well. Even the restrooms were pretty decent and clean, which is always appreciated. We were also seated fairly quickly, so the first impression walking in was positive. Unfortunately, the experience started slipping once we were seated. Our server was difficult to get a hold of most of the time and wasn't very attentive. We waited quite a bit just trying to get basic things handled, and when she did come back, some of our orders were wrong. For example, we ordered Long Island iced teas with an extra added shot of 151 rum, but what came back honestly tasted like the weakest cocktail I've ever had. There was barely any alcohol flavor at all, which was the opposite of what we asked for. We also ordered two double shots of tequila, and she brought back single shots instead. The food itself wasn't terrible, but it definitely didn't feel anywhere close to being worth the price. Our bill ended up being over $200, which felt pretty ridiculous for the quality we received. The food wasn't bad enough to deserve a one-star review, but it also wasn't impressive or memorable enough to justify that kind of cost. Overall, the vibe and look of the restaurant are probably the best parts of the experience, but between the inattentive service, incorrect drinks, and food that didn't match the price point, it ended up being pretty disappointing for what we paid. This was my first time trying out this restaurant because we had family visiting from out of town. First off when we took our orders it took the food like 45mins to an hour to come out. My mom's food still had not come out during this time. My Tía had ordered some shrimp soup plate and her shrimp was grey, looked raw. When we tried to ask a question our server was giving us attitude and being rude. She said the soup cooks it, that's the way it is. My Tía's meal was not even hot enough to fully cook it, she said she was just going to cook it herself at home. When my fajitas finally came, they were not even sizzling. My beans were also cold. (I was also not the only one who got fajitas, everyone else's was the same.) I will say the rice was really good which is why I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1. The music was also so loud that you could barely even talk to each other. My sister had tried to ask if they could turn it down a little & once again our server looked annoyed. They did end up turning it down (went back up shortly after) so at least that was nice for a little while. Also during all of this my mom still did not have her food. By the time her food came out, everyone was already done and over it. Her food took an hour and a half + to come out. Hers was the rice and beans plate with the taquitos. There's also not much parking so plan ahead, we got lucky and parked on the street. They were busy but I've never gone to a restaurant before (even while busy) and been ignored and felt like I was bothering them by asking simple questions. The place is not too big for big party's and it was pretty busy which is to be expected on a Sunday afternoon. They had a small live banda also. Nanci was a great waitress!
