    Salsa

I was a little hesitant to visit this location. We'd tried the one in Duvall but it doesn't seem Ben compare. The carnation location wins my vote for terrific food. The restaurant is small but they do a great job seating you asap. They give you chips/salsa to start, delish! The salsa has a little kick to it but totally tolerable. I ordered the Pollo a la crema and my boyfriend had the Deluxe Enchilada with beef. We were both impressed with the flavors and how good everything was. Carnation is a small town and the offerings are limited but if you want Mexican food definitely go to this location!

Service was great! Servers are very attentive. Food is really good! Their salsa is homemade and really good. Their steak fajitas and enchiladas were fire! Definitely a lot of food so I took the rest home and perfect lunch for tomorrow.

Will come back even if just for this salsa

There's 'delicious.' And then there's - DELICIOUS *drool* There's something magical about when food is done exceptionally well. It's like when every instrument in an orchestra is perfectly tuned and the resulting music is, well, *magic.* The fresh salsa and chips (on the house) are hits right off the bat. The salsa is sexy, juicy, and bright with lots of lime, cilantro, and sweet acidity from the tomatoes. Ya girl ordered the Tres Cunedos, and damn, I am happy that I did. After hiking all morning at nearby Tolt MacDonald, I was hungry. Chile verde - this was perfection. The pork was tender and the sauce was impeccably balanced and comforting to the palate. The chili relleno? Ugh SO GOOD. I wish more places prepared chili relleno like they do, more egg (a little extra browned on the edges), less cheese and sauce. And the chili rojo - damn this reminded me so much of 'beef stew' in Hawaii and gosh, this was incredibly nostalgic. Someone's abuelita must be cooking in the back because this food hit differently than any Mexican place I've been to this far. And abuelita must be running a tight ship cuz service was incredibly speedy. Food was ready 10 min within order. Sangria - I want bottles of this. This was a wonderful drink pairing to my meal. Summer in a glass. Memories about this place will always bring me joy because I am reminded of the magic of *true* deliciousness. 'Deliciousness' is not created equal. It's rare to find a gem like Ixtapa that hits all the notes perfectly. Oh, and if perfect food wasn't enough, customer service was leagues above. This location should do a master class on hospitality and restaurant service. Seriously, Bravo Ixtapa!

    Chicken tortilla soup !?

Doesn't the ixtapas use the same recipe!? I always order the Chicken tortilla soup from Duvall and it's bussin. Assuming it would be just as bussin. That is incorrect. The "broth" was water and avocado. So much avocado that it is literally not edible. What in the actual crunk!?!? I ordered to go. Always gotta put in a bigger bowl. (in the picture I added the pepper, didn't help). Still fed it to the toilet.

5 years later and Ixtapa in Carnation is still going strong with wonderful service and great value. Not well known is their Happy Hour menu in the bar it ends at 6 PM, but have you heard of $4 tacos (you get 2)? They have an entire HR menu plus discounted drinks, the only downside is that the bar is small, so seats fill quickly but the people are friendly so its a good chance to chat. I had the wings, not your traditional buffalo wings these are definitely Mexican style which make for a great change of pace.

My buddy and I stopped for some Mexican after golf on a Thursday afternoon. We were the only customers in the house. I ordered one cheese enchilada with rice and beans and a Negra Modelo. My friend ordered two hamburger tacos a la carte with a strawberry margarita. He ate them so fast I couldn't get a picture of them :) He said they were nothing special. My enchilada was excellent. Good quality food. Prices aren't cheap. I think my enchilada plate was 12.50. Sorry. I can't remember how much his tacos were. The bill was 37. The chips are thin and fresh. The salsa is medium level hot and it has great flavor and consistency.

This place popped up on my radar last summer and I have been back and forth if I wanted to check it…read moreout. Overall, reviews are positive, but the negative reviews are telling. People speak about bland food and just general disappointment. My concern being a Mexican food lover is I have never heard anyone mention this place, which just lead me to believe it's a solid local spot, but not a destination location. No one appears like the ground beef. No many Mexican places even do ground beef anymore, but guess what, ground beef is my favorite, but based on reviews it should be avoided here, so I did so. I went with Carnitas and can tell you it wasn't the worst, but I had had much better. I like a juicy burrito. Yes, they get messy to hold, but worst-case scenario, you get a knife and fork and dig in. You may ask what a juicy burrito is and I'll explain. It's a burrito with either the juice of bean broth, or very moist rice or meat. Unfortunately, nothing here was moist. Also, the burrito had lettuce in it. That's nota burrito, it's a soft taco. A burrito is protein, beans, rice, cheese, sour cream and guacamole. In this case sour cream and guacamole was extra. The people here were friendly, the pricing was fair and the portion was reasonable, I just didn't find the food satisfying. This place is better than fast food and the average truck, but I'm sure every major city in America serves a burrito better than this. I encountered several people working here that struggled with English, which tells me they have to be deep in the culture, but these are not the recipes of true southern Mexicans. I wouldn't tell you to avoid this place, but I also can't recommend them. We drove 30 miles to get here and it was anything but worth the drive.

They were serving tables, clearing tables, dusting, just any activity besides seating us. We asked what the wait was going to be and they said "hold on." Meanwhile, they only had about 3 tables going and there were tons where they could have sat us. We finally got a table, but no service or even water for 30 min. I ordered a hibiscus marg and it was okay. I don't think it had alcohol in it. My friend got peach sangria, which ended up basically being Sunny D with grenadine. Her glass was cracked, so we asked if we could get a new one. Like 20 min later, we asked the server if her new drink was coming and he said no. He then gaslit us into thinking we broke the glass and would need to replace it. So weird. The food was fine. Very average. They aren't very flexible with substitutions and aren't aware of allergens. I got poblano shrimp and the sauce was watery and the beans tasted like lard. They forgot two of our dishes and got things really confused. When the bill came, we asked to see it because we were worried they would charge us for the meal they never brought out or the glass shard sangria. They said no LOL. We said we weren't comfortable paying without reviewing the items on the bill, and they had one of our group go behind the counter to look at it on the computer. Very odd. They really didn't know how to work their POS. We sat at a table next to a huge overflowing box of wires and cords. The whole aesthetic was really off, the servers were rude and unhelpful, and the food was like an even lower quality azteca/ixtapa. Not surprising for the location, but def not worth a stop.

Our waitress (who did not give her name) was not very friendly or attentive. She even interrupted and skipped my family member as they were beginning to order and asked someone else for their order next. It made no sense and was strange. On top of that she just kind of gave a "I don't want to be here and I'm annoyed" vibe. After we got our bill we noticed that some of the charges were incorrect. A kids meal order was rung up wrong, charging extra money for meat even though it was included, and a kids drink was charged as an adult. We kindly tried to explain that she charged us incorrectly and if she could please fix it. She started explaining that we had ordered the kids burrito not taco, even though we definitely ordered, she definitely inputted, and we were most certainly delivered a kids taco. She then said that we needed to clearly specify that it was a kids lemonade even though it was clearly implied that the lemonade was for a child. I guess that's on us cause we didn't say "kids lemonade"? Like come on... She was not kind or helpful about the issue at all and refused to fix the bill. We left frustrated and discouraged to go back. Be ware of the bad service if you're looking to dine in.
