This restaurant absolutely did not want my business. My daughter and I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon based on the yelp reviews, but our experience was totally different. We were ignored when we entered, then ignored when we sat in the waiting area - which was totally empty - then when someone finally came up, instead of waiting on us she started cleaning the screen on her POS system. This place is great - fast service, delicious food, generous servings, lovely staff. This is not a ho hum Mexican place - it is exceptional. We ordered and split steak fajitas - it came with a lovely plate of sour cream, fresh guacamole and a pico de gallo with carrots for the fajitas which were super tasty as were the beans and rice. I was a little hesitant to visit this location. We'd tried the one in Duvall but it doesn't seem Ben compare. The carnation location wins my vote for terrific food. The restaurant is small but they do a great job seating you asap. They give you chips/salsa to start, delish! The salsa has a little kick to it but totally tolerable. I ordered the Pollo a la crema and my boyfriend had the Deluxe Enchilada with beef. We were both impressed with the flavors and how good everything was. Carnation is a small town and the offerings are limited but if you want Mexican food definitely go to this location! read more

There's 'delicious.' And then there's - DELICIOUS *drool* There's something magical about when food is done exceptionally well. It's like when every instrument in an orchestra is perfectly tuned and the resulting music is, well, *magic.* The fresh salsa and chips (on the house) are hits right off the bat. The salsa is sexy, juicy, and bright with lots of lime, cilantro, and sweet acidity from the tomatoes. Ya girl ordered the Tres Cunedos, and damn, I am happy that I did. After hiking all morning at nearby Tolt MacDonald, I was hungry. Chile verde - this was perfection. The pork was tender and the sauce was impeccably balanced and comforting to the palate. The chili relleno? Ugh SO GOOD. I wish more places prepared chili relleno like they do, more egg (a little extra browned on the edges), less cheese and sauce. And the chili rojo - damn this reminded me so much of 'beef stew' in Hawaii and gosh, this was incredibly nostalgic. Someone's abuelita must be cooking in the back because this food hit differently than any Mexican place I've been to this far. And abuelita must be running a tight ship cuz service was incredibly speedy. Food was ready 10 min within order. Sangria - I want bottles of this. This was a wonderful drink pairing to my meal. Summer in a glass. Memories about this place will always bring me joy because I am reminded of the magic of *true* deliciousness. 'Deliciousness' is not created equal. Doesn't the ixtapas use the same recipe!? I always order the Chicken tortilla soup from Duvall and it's bussin. Assuming it would be just as bussin. That is incorrect. Walked into the restaurant just after 5:00 PM on a weekday and the place was quite empty except for two other tables. We were a party of 5 and needed a high chair in addition to our group. The hostess wanted to seat us in a booth which was clearly not going to work, given my son-in-law is 6'4" and my husband is 6' and rather medium build. I told her we'd prefer more space but she insisted that the high chair would go on the end and we could fit. No. It was most evident we could not get three people on one side and two on the other comfortably. I asserted, again, that would not work and she inexplicably walked away into the kitchen. We stood in the waiting area wondering what was happening. After an awkward minute, she came back and pointed to two tables near each other. Great! That looked fine... but no effort on her part to join the tables, so we had to push the tables & chairs together on our own. That was strange. Overall, the process was slow in taking our order and again in having our food served, considering the lack of customers at the time. Midway through our meal a large group arrived and service for us came to a halt. We had finished our meal and waited a very long time for our check - I finally got up & tracked down one of the staff. A different person dropped off the check (we requested two checks at the beginning of our meal) and had to wait again for things to be straightened out. It was annoying. The prices also seemed high. Most likely won't go back for impolite, unwelcoming reception and longer than expected time for service. read more

5 years later and Ixtapa in Carnation is still going strong with wonderful service and great value. Not well known is their Happy Hour menu in the bar it ends at 6 PM, but have you heard of $4 tacos (you get 2)? They have an entire HR menu plus discounted drinks, the only downside is that the bar is small, so seats fill quickly but the people are friendly so its a good chance to chat. I had the wings, not your traditional buffalo wings these are definitely Mexican style which make for a great change of pace. read more

Decided to get out of the city and try someplace new. I used to know someone who claim Ixtapa had the best Mexican food. That was the Duvall location which I'm not sure is still standing 20 years later. I've never been to this area before, certainly off the beaten path and when you consider all roads in and out are about 25mph, it's tedious drive. The salsa did not impress, far too tart, they did have a hotter salsa. It was much better, but still needed some salt and still lacked a true Mexican kick. The food itself was impressive. The enchiladas were the best I've had in some time, the rice was also good. The beans were a bit overblended, they were almost creamy. Thumbs up on the entree, but they need to boost their salsa game. Price were reasonable and at some point I'll make a point to return, hopefully with clear roads cutting drive time in half. read more

I don't usually leave bad reviews because I work in the industry and I have a lot of sympathy for how difficult it is. But I feel like some feedback would be helpful here and I hope the staff takes it as that and understands I'm not an irate customer, just a disappointed one. Last night I came in with a couple friends and a couple teenagers, all very hungry. It seemed busy. I ordered enchiladas crema and when it came out, it was covered in like, melted nacho cheese sauce. It wasn't what I was expecting. And, I admit, that is my bad for not reading the description properly, but in my defense, crema usually means something close to sour cream. This was more like a queso dip, IMO. Either way, I didn't like it. I ate about 5 bites then pushed it off the the side, next to my empty water cup and my empty salsa dish. I tried to make it pretty obvious what was going on. My plan was to box it up and bring it to my wife. I was thinking about ordering something else. I definitely wanted more chips and salsa. Again, I was very hungry. The problem is, the waiter never came back; never checked on us. Never even filled my water. My friends eventually asked the host for the check. Point is, I wasn't mad and I wasn't going to send my food back. But I left hungry. I spent like 80 bucks and I left hungry. And all I needed was some basic service and it could have been solved. read more

We really enjoy visiting our local Ixtapa! My wife and I love to support our local community by eating as close to home as possible. We always have fun at Ixtapa the food the drinks are always tasty. Of course the margaritas are awesome! This trip in I decided to veer from my standard arroz con pollo for the fish tacos. Wow was I happy I made the subtitution!! The fish tasted great and nicely done not overcooked not dried out. It was just as it should be. The slaw is tasty the flour tortillas were warm. I added fresh avocado and a generous squeeze of lime that really brought home the flavor!! My dinner partner went for the carne asada with the poblano chili relleno. Soooo good!! Lots of good flavors and large portions!! The staff is friendly and greets you with a smile! With a choice between the bar that's to the left and around the corner can be a fun hideaway to enjoy dinner or drinks with your Amigos. The dining room is comfortable and adorned in traditional Mexican art and colors makes you feel warm inside!! My buddy and I stopped for some Mexican after golf on a Thursday afternoon. We were the only customers in the house. I ordered one cheese enchilada with rice and beans and a Negra Modelo. My friend ordered two hamburger tacos a la carte with a strawberry margarita. He ate them so fast I couldn't get a picture of them :) He said they were nothing special. My enchilada was excellent. Good quality food. Prices aren't cheap. I think my enchilada plate was 12.50. Sorry. I can't remember how much his tacos were. The bill was 37. The chips are thin and fresh. Ixtapa serves Heaven on a plate! Where do we even begin! We came here after a lovely long walk by the Tolt river. The location is so convenient and lovely! We ordered Tres Cunados (which included this beautiful chile relleno, tender pork cooked in chile verde and steak cooked in fresh tomato sauce)! Each bite was so satisfactory and the portions were just so generous! And did I mention the refried beans? It was so creamy and heavenly, I ate every bite of it we also ordered street tacos and the steak was cooked to perfection! And then there was the lovely service team at Ixtapa! One of, if not the best, Mexican restaurant in the Snoqualmie valley. Why? Food - consistently great. I tried and loved a southwest steak burrito.
