You can also tell that all products are high quality, but everything is still reasonably priced. They have an adorable selection of dog toys and leashes which made me wish I had a dog so I could buy some of those. The store seems to mainly cater to dogs, since majority of the areas are dog food/toys/supplies. There's a smaller cat section in the back, but still many options for toys and food nonetheless. I even saw a corner for hamster supplies.

The rabbits and guinea pigs here are kept in terrible condition. I attached photos of the rabbits…read more They're kept in way too small of cages. The one rabbit didn't even really have any food. Rabbits are prone to digestion issues and need to be able to be constantly eating. There weren't any hideaways provided for them, or any toys for enrichment or to chew on and keep their teeth down. I didn't get pictures of the guinea pigs. Their cage was literally just stacked on top of the rabbits'. But they also didn't have any toys and no hideaways. Because of this, they were visibly super stressed out because they were kept front and center of the store and didn't have any place to hide and get away from the stressors. The top of their cage was also just open and I saw little kids reaching their hands in without any employees around to facilitate customers interacting with the animals like that. Honestly terrible for everyone involved because A.) The kids could get bit B.) It stresses out the animals C.) The animals are learning to be afraid of people are going to be difficult to socialize with anyone that takes them home and D.) Any germs on the kids' hands could easily be transmitted to the animals and make them sick. This store should just stick with fish honestly. I'm not as knowledgeable about the other kinds of animals they have as I am about guinea pigs and rabbits, but the owners definitely either don't care about the animals or are just really uneducated about the animals they're selling.

Unwilling to provide basic information unless you travel in person…read more I reached out to get basic information about a puppy, specifically regarding pricing and how they verify ethical breeding standards. Instead of answering these straightforward questions, I was told flat out that they will not provide any details over the phone or online. To get even a baseline price or breeder info, they required me to come into the store in person to sit down with one of their "pet counselors" (commissioned sales associate). I explained that I am located 100 miles away and simply wanted essential details before committing to an hour drive to Pittsburgh. They still refused to share any information. Gatekeeping pricing and breeder sourcing behind a mandatory high-pressure, in-person sales pitch is a huge red flag. Transparency should be the bare minimum when bringing a pet into your home. Save yourself the long drive--look elsewhere for a transparent, ethical source.

Jenna greeted me with: well you're here before your groomer, and I can't check them in, because I can't be responsible, so you'll need to wait. I said okay... Then, she said, you won't be able to drop them off together bc one of your appointments is for now and one is for an hour from now. I explained that in the past, I've always dropped them off together, and they hold one while they groom the other..Because I live twenty minutes away, it doesn 't make sense to go back and forth for each dog separately. She told me, she didn't think that would be possible because she wasn't sure if our groomer would have other dogs that she needed to have there... which doesn't make sense...I've seen them hold a bunch of different dogs while they're doing the grooming and waiting for owners to show up and pick them up. The other staff I've met are all great... hopefully they'll give her some customer service training!

While I walked around the store, an employee made very courteous conversation with me. I currently have no dog, so I will have to return here in the future after I adopt another dog. The employee promptly rang up my purchase, processed my transaction, and thanked me. At home, one of my cats appeared to be very interested in sniffing the catnip toys.

3.5 stars. For several years, I have occasionally shopped at this Petland store…read more For all of my visits, an employee has courteously greeted me. Years ago, when I had different cats with different dietary needs and preferences, this Petland had their preferred types of wet foods in stock. However, during my most recent visit, I did not see my current cat's preferred types of foods on the shelves. I did see a decent selection of beds, collars, leashes, jackets, toys, dog foods, aquarium supplies, some cat trees, hygiene products, bowls, and some cat litters. The prices, though, were higher than what online retailers charge. This store had a few dogs and cats up for adoption through their Animal Shelter Adoption Program (ASAP). It also had some birds, fish, a guinea pig, etcetera. Furthermore, their website says that they offer dog grooming.

Healthy Pet Products currently has four locations--three in the Pittsburgh area and one in Florida…read more The stores sell premium foods, treats, and supplies for dogs, cats, and small pets. I usually purchase pet products from national retailers such as Chewy, Petsmart, Amazon, and Target, but I felt interested in investigating the Healthy Pet Products store in the North Hills. When I entered the store, an employee immediately greeted me and asked if I needed any assistance. I looked around the store for many minutes. I found lots of unique products that I had not seen at other retailers. I saw many brands and types of foods and treats (e.g., bagged, canned, frozen, freeze-dried, raw, and grain-free) in many flavors (e.g., chicken, beef, duck, lamb, rabbit, turkey, and venison). I also saw many types of toys, health supplements, hygiene products, grooming supplies, leashes and collars, etcetera. I decided to buy three treats for my dog--turkey, beef and lamb, and bacon ice cream. A second employee immediately noticed me at the cash register, greeted me, accurately scanned my products and processed my payment, and thanked me. So far, I have given two of the treats to my dog, and she happily wagged her tail as she ate all of the treats. Tip: Check out the Healthy Pet Products website for sales and coupons.
