My dogs wounds at pick-up after eight days of boarding at Friendly Paws.
    Lindsay B.

We took our beautiful and playful, two year old Rottie to Friendly Paws for boarding while we were on vacation. At pick-up, Dave noticed chunks of skin missing from her face and asked the manager about them. She said she had no idea. Not once were we contacted about an incident or injury in the eight days Coco was there. Coco came back to us seven pounds lighter, banged up, and needing several trips to the vet to treat open sores on her neck and face. She was in so much pain she had to be fully sedated so the vet could shave and treat the wounds on her neck. We were immediately in touch with the facility's owner who also claimed she played with Coco earlier that day and noticed nothing. They have since tried to suggest that Coco had an allergic reaction to their groomers' soap in the last hours of her being kenneled (as if her wounds, a severe bacteria infection, and seven pounds of weight-loss, happened in a few hours). They've suggested Coco banged her head against a fence. They're suggesting now she had skin issues before she came to the kennel. False. Friendly Paws will not take responsibility for her poor care. We are talking with the appropriate organizations and powers-that-be to investigate the situation and make sure this doesn't happen to another animal at this facility. Additionally, I'm asking you to share this information with other local dog owners and lovers. No animal deserves one hour, one day, or one week of suffering at the hands of neglect. Coco is healing and finally getting back to her sweet, energetic self. She is still on meds and scabby but happy to be home and gaining back her cheeky little Rottie chubs.

    My sassy little Sophie!

As always, Sam did a wonderful job on my Sophie! Sophie always comes home so relaxed and happy! Thank you to Sam and Courtney, the owner, for a professional and stress-free experience!!!

My pups always come home happy and tired! They both have lots of energy so it's always nice to have them sleep the night away!

Remi is not Able to open his eyes but brief periods because he's in a lot of pain.

If I could give this boarding facility -10 stars, I would. Please, if you love your animal...DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS TO THIS FACILITY. They do NOT care. The dual owners appear to not visit their Business. It is staffed by 20 somethings who appear more interested in anything but taking care of your beloved babies. I recently boarded my two dogs there. One is a Morkie and is 10 months old and the other is a five-year-old Shih Tzu. It was an extensive board because my husband and I were out of the country for 17 days. We had previously had our dogs at the facility for a four day stint and that one seemed to go OK. So we figured it would be fine for them to be there while we were out of the country. We arranged for them to have at least one bath while they were there ( we ordered the "Ultimutt bath"), Which according to their marketing material included "a scrub, rinse, ear clean, Teeth clean, Nail trim/Dremel and blow dry". Also, our Shih Tzu tends to get yeast infections on his skin and ears which I have gotten under control but in advance I gave them his medicine. I paid a total of $45 for them to apply this medicine every other day to his ears as well as comb out his chest and legs to stop the yeast from building up. That was the plan. They have you bring your dogs' food in so they eat the same food they get at home. We use "the farmers dog" which is a very high grade product. We brought plenty of food in and I explained to them how much should be given them in the morning and at night. We left on our vacation. During the vacation, I did Call in to check in on the dogs and Everything was "fine". Once we got back home, I went in on a Friday to pick up our puppies. The woman/girl/20 something went back to pick up Remi our Shih Tzu and to say I was appalled would be a massive understatement. My dog was unable to open his eyes. His hair including especially the hair on his ears was incredibly matted. He was skin and bones. Frankly, he looked homeless. This girl who brought him out acted like she didn't even notice what was going on. I was in shock and so upset. His skin looked horrible as well. I told her to have the owner call me. I have attached pictures of my dog after I washed him once I got him home. He had lost almost a full pound of body weight. I found out that apparently three days prior to our arrival back in the US, they had run out of the food that we brought and rather than text, call or email us about this, they contacted our emergency contact and all they did was tell him "we will just feed him other food". I have no idea what they fed him but he was either unable to get to it or it was not good or something but he was skin and bones to the point I could feel his back bone all down his back. His yeast was uncontrollable especially his ears. As far as I can tell, they never applied any of the medicine anywhere. If they did, it was negligible. I do not believe they brushed him anywhere as we discussed prior to the board. Keep in mind I paid almost $50 for this additional service. On top of this,All weekend he was unable to open his eyes.I just got back from the vet who told me that he had scratched his retina/ eye and I have him on antibiotics as well as as an ointment and I have him on special products to help get the yeast infections back under control. Of course When I spoke to the owner, she proceeded to tell me that she had not been at the facility because she had a death in her family and she referred me to someone else. That person called me from a number I did not recognize. When we finally did text, in both instances they acted like I'm the jerk here. "Why am I upset? Why am I requesting money back?" Because frankly, I feel paying $550 to board my dog and then have to pay another $200 in vet bills because of their negligence is disgusting. They should never be working with dogs. Both of them had an attitude with me and I'm sorry if a person has an issue with their family but bottom line, the buck still stops with you. I have boarded other facilities and had wonderful results. I thought I would try this one out because it was closer and catered to small dogs but they do not care whatsoever.Your dog is going to be let out in the morning and brought back in at night and they pay no attention. Even the owner admitted to me that perhaps the 20 somethings who work for her could be better trained. These people are disreputable and should never ever be running a boarding facility. Btw this is for their small dog facility....

I travel for work often and I need a place that can watch my pug with flexible hours. Normally my pug hates going to these sorts of places, but this place he gets excited to go! He loves the girls who work there and he loves that the play pen is outside! They also have a bus program where they can pick up and drop off your dog which is so convenient. We tried a few places before this place but this is by far the best. The people genuinely care about taking care of your pet and that makes me feel happy bring him here. Thanks for taking care of my Remy!

I was asked prior to this stay, 'does diva like water?' I responded, 'no, she's actually afraid'...as you can see, I apparently was wrong ha

Friendly Paws does a great job. Dipper comes home exhausted from so much play time. They gave him a good bath and trimmed his nails.

At that time the assured me that they would come for the scheduled days and send me pictures or updates regarding my cats. When I left home on Friday I left out 2 bowls of water and 4 dishes of food. Every day that I was away I received pictures and/or updates about my cats via text message. When I arrived home Monday evening (July 12th), both bowls of water only had water covering the bottom and the food was only covering the bottom of ALL 4 food dishes. I have left my cats alone for 2 days in the past, with no one coming into the home to check on them, with the same set up of food and water(2 water bowls and 4 dishes of food). After 2 days of the cats being alone in the past, all of the bowls would still be about 80% full when I returned home. That was not the case when I returned after 4 days away with people supposedly caring for my pets. There is no way that they were filling their food and water daily, like I had contacted for them to do. I was very disappointed, but decided to just pay my bill and move on. I recently requested my keys back and they informed me they would be sent back via certified mail and there was a $20 charge to mail them per our contract. The same contract that stated the cats would be cared for daily. Their audacity in asking for $20 to get my keys back is what prompted me to leave this rating. I normally do not write reviews, but I wanted to warn others who care for their pets as much as I do, to BEWARE OF THIS SERVICE.

I kept one of my cats here from September 19 and October 7 while I was on a foreign vacation. Months in advance, in April, I messaged this business to ask if they could board my three cats and administer a few medications such as "subcutaneous lactated-ringers fluid" for one cat who has stage-2 kidney disease. The owner replied, "Yes, we are able to provide the requested services" and "$25/pouch injection." In May, the owner and I again emailed each other, and she confirmed the services and prices. I decided to board only the one cat who needed medications and to keep the other two cats at home with my friend. On the business's website, I completed a registration form that asked about my cat's medical conditions, medications, veterinarian's contact information, and the cat's health documents. In September, the business and I emailed each other to confirm the dates of stay, the foods, and medications. The next day, hours before my husband and I would leave for our foreign vacation, we took our cat, carrier, food, and medications to the business for her to begin her stay. About 45 minutes after we left the business, two employees called us and said that they had never administered subcutaneous lactated ringers and did not know how to do it! My husband and I turned around our vehicle and drove another 45 minutes back. The owner should not have told us months earlier that that service is provided, and the employees should have told us when we dropped off the cat and supplies. At this point, I was considering keeping my cat at home with my other two cats and friend, but the employees told me that they could administer the lactated ringer's if I set up the bag, tubing, and needle. They said that they knew how to administer insulin injections, which also goes into subcutaneous tissue such as the scruff of the neck. They spoke nicely to us, and I appreciate that they were willing to try. My husband and I went on our foreign vacation. Our cat stayed in a small, multi-level cat condo, and she was occasionally allowed to roam around the larger room. On one day, an employee sent an email update about the cat. The employee tried to administer the lactated ringers and was able to give it one time in the 19 days. That medication was the entire reason why we kept the cat here. The total cost for the stay was $475. After we picked up the cat, she was vomiting more than usual, was dehydrated, and had much worse laboratory values. I will have empathy for the employees and will appreciate their efforts. I rarely write 2-star reviews, but the owner should not have told us that her business can administer subcutaneous lactated ringers.

That said, I used to train and show English mastiffs and now I have multiple little dogs as pets. I have seen and utilized many doggy day care centers, and Pgh Paws Pet Resort is excellent and a model for others to follow. What is especially different is the level of personal care and bonding each dog receives from caregivers there. The ratio of caregiver to dog is excellent and the dogs are separated into groups according to size and temperament. One of my pups is getting pretty old, and he has a whole little group of "elderlies" who hang out together and nap. When the group is rowdy, the elderlies are given their own space so they can relax without being bumped. My dogs have rarely been so excited to be dropped off for "puppy play school" as they are here. I feel lucky that they even want to come home!
