This is such a cute local pet supply shop in the area. The staff are very friendly and eager to help. You can also tell that all products are high quality, but everything is still reasonably priced. They have an adorable selection of dog toys and leashes which made me wish I had a dog so I could buy some of those. The store seems to mainly cater to dogs, since majority of the areas are dog food/toys/supplies. There's a smaller cat section in the back, but still many options for toys and food nonetheless. I even saw a corner for hamster supplies. read more

I have always had a positive experience at the Cranberry twp store. Lauren is extremely knowledgeable and helped me find exactly what i was searching for and couldn't find anywhere. Almost all pet food has synthetic vitamins in them. She placed a special order for me. She also recommend other products to help with my cats health condition. She is able to explain the mechanism in which each product works. She very obviously has spent a lot of time researching pet health. She is an amazing asset to this company!! read more

I absolutely adore this place, and so does my dog Barkley. The staff is incredibly kind and knowledgeable. Shoutout to James & David who always make us feel seen and appreciated. Shadyside is fortunate to have such a wonderful pet store! read more

Great selection of healthy foods and treats for cats and dogs. Lots of toys and other great products. The staff are fantastic! So kind and great advice! They don't carry a couple things we use (high maintenance pets) but they ordered them and called me 3 days later to let me know they were there! read more

The food that my kittens were raised on, that the breeder recommended, was not available anywhere else in Pittsburgh, that I could see. I was hoping against hope that the prices at the store would not be extreme, given that it was my only brick and mortar source. Imagine my delight in finding reasonable prices, exceptional food, and amazingly nice staff! I talked with the gentleman in charge for quite a while, enjoying myself immensely. That quality above all else is what makes me look forward to coming back to Petagogy when I need to restock. read more

Great selection of the best pet foods. Great dog toys and treats. Great and helpful service from knowledgeable staff!

The staff member working today was so kind and helpful, and our pups share the same name (Penny)! She recommended this puzzle for my Newfie, and as you can see she as very pleased. In actuality she's only pleased because she quickly bypassed the puzzle pieces and opened the treat drawer with brute force read more

The best local pet store! Every staff member is so helpful, kind, and accommodating to all human and pup visitors. So many good quality treats to choose from and the toughest cutest toys for our giant pup. We stopped in today for a new harness with our energetic dog and the staff was helpful and jumped in to put it on him and made sure the size and fit was perfect. Just one of many reasons we continue to support and love this small business! read more

This is an amazing little pet shop. I took my little man for a walk through Shadyside and had heard about this place and decided to stop in. Very nice that if you are walking and do actually want to stop in, it is a 'pet friendly' establishment so you don't have to worry about what to do with your dog while you go browse. I didn't get a chance to check out the back of the store much because having a 3 month old puppy wrapping himself around your leg fifty times doesn't make for walking through the store a fun task. We (yes we, Eli, little man) browsed through the toys and treats up front. While we were browsing the staff was very friendly, knowledgeable and on top of their game. They have a lot of environmentally friendly toys for your pets located there. Picked up a chew toy made from wool for Eli and he has not let that thing alone since we came home. Upon check out be sure to sign up for their card. It's kind of like the Petco/PetSmart card. You get an amount off after you spend a certain amount there. They also have classes/demostrations you can attend. If you don't mind, join their email club and receive updates about specials and classes that are going to be offered. My rating is 4.75 stars, great place that's off the beaten path. read more

We have never been to Petagogy, but look forward to a visit soon. We have no pets of our own, but our granddaughter and her husband have two of the most beautiful and friendliest dogs you have ever seen. We have read some reviews, and will be buying Christmas gifts very shortly! read more

I adore his store! It is very much a dog oriented store, but they also have a small but excellent cat section. This is a good thing because I don't actually own a dog.. There is a wall of canned cat food. All very wonderful brands with good ingredients. They have deals where you can get a percentage off if you buy many cans at one time. Basically fill a cardboard tray and you're set! I personally buy Weruva, and Petagogy has every flavor imaginable. They also have two sizes. It's very much a whole foods for pets in a way due to the natural ingredients in the brands they stock. There are also cat toys, trees, treats, tunnels, beds, catnip and plants, litter pans and leashes/collars. It can be a little on the more expensive side, but for good reason. The products are excellent and worth it! The customer service is also great. They have a customer card that can give you deals as well if you frequent. read more

I LOVE Petagogy! If you've got a dog or cat, and need supplies, this is the place to go. It's a small business located on Ellsworth in Shadyside, run by some amazing people who are dedicated to animals and rescue. They have a wide variety of high quality food for your fur child(ren) and are very knowledgeable about every product they sell. They have a great supply of healthy treats, bones, antlers, and supplements for every need you may have. They also have a nice selection of toys as well! They also have locally made collars and leashes that they sell for local artists and businesses. Along with these, they have a good selection of harnesses and training supplies. I am never disappointed when I stop in. Go check them out! You won't be disappointed. read more

Great little pet shop on Ellsworth that I find extremely useful. We have a side per sitting business and always like to have fresh and healthy treats and snacks on hand for our clients. I'm always able to find exactly what I'm looking for and the staff are courteous and knowledgeable. read more

The owners couldn't be nicer and more helpful! While I was hesitant to visit, because I had a preconceived notion they mainly cater to dogs, I was wrong. Let me be clear. Most of the shop is dog stuff, but they're expanding their cat section currently, which makes me very happy! The owner helped me pick out this special cat litter, Cat Attract, because we're having some bad kitty bathroom behavior... And it's working! I also picked up a banana filled with catnip that is a VERY popular toy in the Carlson household (the cats use it, not us:). They also sell items from local vendors, like handmade collars and dish holders from Reclaimed Things. They also deliver now to the immediate area. Great shop worth the visit, even if it's out of the way for you, it's worth a stop in! read more

Petagogy is my favorite pet store in Pittsburgh! There is always a wide selection of unique items for dogs and cats in a range of prices. I stop in when I can to pick up little treats and toys for my cat and dog and they are always super happy with the surprise. If you're looking for something unique or all natural for your pet I recommend stopping in. read more

There is nothing I can really say about this place that hasn't been said. The owners remember our dog by name, and remember that it's actually my girlfriend who is the name on our loyalty purchase thingy. Going in, we're so often treated to bags of samples - so much so that we once went in to buy food and left with nothing but samples, and didn't need to return for a week to actually purchase any. The staff is extremely helpful, and willing to answer any questions you might have about any of their products, or make recommendations based on your pet's lifestyle. They also have no problem cleaning up a bit of doggy accident, if someone can't hold it until you leave. The place is primarily a dog store, with about 70-80% of the merchandise dedicated to canine companions, but they do also have a small mammals section for cats and such. They are also home to several events throughout the months(Especially great for the owners of well socialized dogs, which ours is not quite good enough to partake just yet), so be sure to follow them on Facebook or twitter. read more

Products: Petagogy is a family owned pet store (for dogs and cats) that sells products you may not find at the chain pet stores and that you definitely won't find at the grocery store. Their inventory includes all-natural foods, unique treats and bones, all types of durable and interesting toys, grooming tools and products, calming products, and more (they even have vegetarian pet foods!). They have food bags in all sizes to meet your needs based on the size of your pet and your budget. We always find new bones for our dog and different treats that are not available at other stores. Price: Petagogy is not a bargain basement pet store, but they aren't offering bottom-shelf products. Their food is top-notch with a focus on quality and pet health. If you want something cheap, go to Giant Eagle. But if you want food that will make your pet healthy and happy, Petagogy is the place to go. Staff: The store is operated by two couples, and everyone who has ever been behind the counter has been extremely friendly and eager to help. On our first visit, the staff recommended a dog food based on our individual pet and we have never strayed from their recommendation. If out of stock, the staff will order exactly what you want/need, and they will even deliver it to your house for free! Location: Right on Ellsworth Ave., you can't miss Petagogy. Parking may be tricky, but that end of Ellsworth is typically less busy and it is easier to find a spot. Extras: Petagogy is heavily involved in the local community and organizes and promotes pet events and other events. The owners clearly want more than just your business and show a genuine interest in having a presence in the community. They offer events like pet photos with Santa and consultations with dog trainers regularly and have an event calendar in the store and online. The rewards/customer loyalty program provides discounts, birthday offers for your pet, and keeps you in the loop for upcoming events. They welcome your dog/cat into the store and have a bowl full of fresh water (with some slobber) to quench your pet's thirst. (+): many unique high-quality products to choose from, awesome staff, and a small business mindset with intentions of being part of the community (-): the price may not be the lowest, but you get what you pay for at Petagogy Would I go back again? Routinely. read more

Best pet store in Pittsburgh. I know anything purchased from here is vetted and from a trustworthy place! It's the only place I'll by pet supplies. This is an adorable little specialty pet store on Ellsworth, right across from the East End Vet Clinic. They carry lots of high quality foods and treats for those who wish to give their pets the very best! There are also carefully selected high-end products, including toys, leashes, bowls, etc. This isn't the kind of place to come to stock up on all your basic pet needs (with the exception of food), unless you have an unlimited budget, but it's a great place to find special items when you feel like treating your pet. The thing that really stands out about this place is the incredibly friendly and helpful staff. I cannot even express just how nice they have been to me. They are super sweet to my pup and don't mind that she runs around sniffing everything and checking things out. They always offer her treats, and they are very generous with giving us samples of everything! They are MAJOR dog lovers and very knowledgeable....one of the girls who works here has given me incredibly helpful advice every time I've come, from helping me out with my pup's specific issues (separation anxiety) to vet recommendations to helping me pick out the right treats to get. She is also very honest about the products that would be worth my while as opposed to the ones that I'd be better off spending my money on at a generic pet store. I appreciate the honesty and the genuine care for a customer's needs. Plus, bonus kudos to this store for being active in the community and for genuinely showing a love for animals! read more

I love this store! Being that I am a sucker for all things dog, this is the perfect place for me to go and get my Pooch some goodies and food. The one thing that I like about it most, is that they do carry some unique items that I never see elsewhere (probably because they are not showcased). One of these was the Thanksgiving dinner in a can for dogs. My little P-Nut loved hers. They are so nice and helpful there and truly do pride themselves on having the best of the best products. As a veterinary sales rep, it is nice to see someplace that actually looks at quality items and does their homework on what they sell. Definitely a great place to get quality food and treats, etc. Highly recommended! read more

I love this little gem of a pet store! I buy all of my cat's food here, they have a great selection of different foods that will meet the needs of just about any pet. For example, I've got a senior cat who has allergies and an adult cat that is super fat and prone to hairballs. And they always end up eating the same food. I was about to find a food that suits both of them. My cats especially love the Fromm cat foods, but if you are not sure what foods your pet would like they are happy to give you some samples to try. They have just about everything your pet could need. I got a really cool leash for my friends dog that is made from recycled bike tires and has a beer opener on it. I was like, "Who needs a bottle opener on a dog leash?" You know what--I've used it several times! Their prices are very good, and the staff is super friendly. I recommend stopping here before going to PetSmart. Support a local business, and get quality stuff for your pets. Its a win win. Also, I like that they send me cute coupons on my cats birthdays. read more

Great indepependent store with a huge variety of only the best and healthy things for your pet at reasonable prices comparable to Amazon and Chewy, often less expensive or the same, and they offer coupons and have a membership club. The first time I went in, because it was in Shadyside near galleries, antique stores and interior design studios, I was thinking it was going to be a high-end pet store, bu I was pleasantly surprised. The people who work there know the brands and can make sound recommendations tailored to your needs. If they don't have it, they will order it. I try to go each week. It's a nice alternative to on-line shopping because you can see what you're getting and they have a nice selection of raw bones and food for your furry friends as well. I can't say enough good things about this place and the value of shopping here. read more

I love this place! They have a broad selection of very high quality food and treats, plus all the rest of the expected accoutrements of a pet food/supply store, all in a very bright, open, spacious, and spotlessly clean space, with fantastic, helpful staff and owners. I even forgive them for not stocking the particular food I prefer to give my dog, because a) they gave me a bunch of samples that let me select another one that he eats well (although I don't like the "output" as well), and b) most importantly, oh my gosh, THEY ACTUALLY DELIVER!! And at no extra charge! If you live near enough to them, yes, they really will deliver, and extremely cheerfully. All you have to do is call the day you need something, and it shows up by 9pm, earlier if they have enough staffing. This is allowing me to buy the larger bags of food, which I cannot carry myself, which is definitely saving me money - and wear and tear on the body. read more

I love taking my dogs here for a treat after they visit the vet across the street. I would never buy dog food or a large bag of treats here as it is very expensive, but they have a lot of treats that you can buy individually. This is a fun option if you're out and about with your pooch in Shadyside. The dogs in the store are always very friendly, and the people are as well. I love coming here for special treats for my dogs. The service is absolutely fantastic, and everyone who works here knows a lot about what they are selling. This is very important to me when it comes to choosing items for my dogs. I highly recommend walking in and exploring! read more

I started going to Petagogy after my dog food store closed. They carried the brand of food we feed my dog, and are always very kind. I love their reward program and all of the events they frequently host. The icing on the cake is the fun and different toys, treats, collars, etc. that they carry. Toby always leaves with something fun! read more

Petagogy - Love Petagogy! They always have fun and safe products for my fave pooch. Toby loves the Yaky Charms! - Pet Stores Near Me - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Love this place. This is THE place (if not the only) to go to for your dog's/cat's most well cared for meals, treats, etc. Although, i may say - i buy their grain-free dog foods and treats, etc - i would NOT recommend buying their leashes, bowls, or whatever. You can get them cheaper and the NEW petsmart that just opened down the street in East Lib. Everything else is a GO. If you need advice, people there are friendly and informative on what you should feed your pet. Still - do your own research and make sure it is the right choice for you. Businesses will always recommend other businesses, but for your personal choice - make sure you feel comfortable with it. Great pet boutique for your special friend. read more

This place has caused our once slim canine to balloon to his current fighting weight and become a total food snob in the process. Yes, our dog eats 'surf and turf' for each meal. Yes, I am aware how ridiculous it is. Great spot with fabulous healthy products for the four legged family members. They are totally cool with customers bringing in the pets. I'm just nervous ours will geek out and piss on all the chew toys. I spy 50% bin coming soon... read more

Nice boutique pet supply store. They carry a good selection of highly rated dog and cat food, treats, chews that I'd have to mail order otherwise. Not just kibble, either-- they carry freeze dried, frozen raw. Nice bulk chew selection. Love it. Staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. The only thing I'd suggest to improve is a better selection of toys. It's almost as though they aren't sure what demographic they want to appeal to with the toy wall. I'd like to see flirt poles, bumpers, sound chip toys, better puzzles. read more

Wow. As a first time cat owner I had no idea where to start. I went into the Petagogy at the recommendation of a few friends. The first time I just browsed and checked out the toys they offered. I ended up buying a puzzle type toy. The second time I went in with the intention of asking about food. The woman who was working (I'm sorry I don't know her name but she was incredibly friendly and helpful) talked to me about the different foods they offer as well as explaining a little bit about why it matters quite a bit what you feed your pet. She said she has had cats and understands that they can be picky, so she gave me a sample of almost every food they offer for me to take home to let the cats try. The cats (to my surprise) made it very obvious which was their favorite. I took a third trip back and bought the food they preferred. And that day they were matching food pound for pound to donate to the Animal Rescue League. Bottom line: Great products for dogs and cats. An incredibly helpful and knowledgeable staff. Involved in the local community. read more

Some people call me crazy for the way I treat my dog. I treat him like he treats me, like he loves me to death. I want the best for him whether it is nutritious food or strong, well made toys. I shopped at the chain stores for years and became steadily disappointed in the poor selection. A few weeks ago I gave Petagogy a try. The first thing I noticed was their amazing select of food, toys and treats. After speaking with the two couples that own and operate the store I realized these people feel the same way about their pets as I do. They want the best for them and that is just want they sell, only the best! I would highly recommend this store for their knowledgable staff and great selection of quality products. If you are as crazy about your pet as I am I would strongly recommend you give Petagogy a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

I second the best pet shop in Pittsburgh. I adore this store. The staff is uh-mazing. They don't treat you or you pet like some average joe customer who comes in to stock up on pet supplies. I've 2 times in this store and I couldn't fine what I was looking for: it was a puppy potty and XS cloth for my little puppy but they deserve 5 stars just because they provide great customer service. I was confusing about which food should I choose for my puppy. I wanted to provide her good quality, healthy, no grains, organic and free artificial flavor. They had a lot options and when I asked to staff what she would think would be tasty, she provide me a lot of samples for my little girl in order to know what my puppy would like the most. I never had such good customer service in another pet store. read more

Update: This place is still consistently amazing. They really care about my dog Larry and give him very personal recommendations. They emailed me when they thought they made a mistake telling me an item was not in stock while it was, which was very nice because they had to look up my info through my dog's name, which they remembered even though he wasn't in the store that day. The staff are all full of personality and are not pushy at all. I know I've said this before but it still amazes me - I've been given many, many free samples here and told to come back when I choose the best food for Larry. These people care about my pet in the long run and not making a quick sale, and that means they will get my business as long as I'm in Pittsburgh. read more
