One of a Kind: Larger than life candy, which make fun gifts! Coffee mugs w/hilarious sayings, some chocolates with liquor inside, retro candy, cute plushies, Hello Kitty cup of noodles... So much to see! It's always a fun surprise to discover something new whenever I visit, which is whenever I'm on 3rd Street Promenade shopping! Favorites: Unique flavors of KitKat bars, Barbie drink, chocolate bar mixed with potato chips, boba drinks, Bailey's chocolates...& so much more! Customer Service: I'm always greeted right away! We decided to go with a group for bunch of treats for Christmas to ITS SUGAR on 3rd street. They were to close at 8:00 pm on Saturday night! Well we got there store was closed! I just don't understand why have hours where it doesn't matter. Anyway not the end it was just Candy but thats just another reason city of Santa Monica should start taking active business variously , encourage them to stay open and clean are the homeless and The homeless shelters from the area! I also can't blame the owner , Christmas weekend and the place was dead. There were the equivalent zombies vs customers and sorry but their security is useless. My two sisters, bro inlaw, two nieces and I came to It's Sugar on 11/05/22 as it was their first time coming to the Third Street Promenade . I knew my nieces would enjoys such a store and even us adults as who doesn't have a sweet tooth once in a while. No staff greeted us upon entering as they were all busy restocking or tending to the long line of customers. The store was not crowded but it did have several people inside. The store itself was so clean and tidy. It had a lot of gummy candies and chocolate as well. I am not really a candy person and mostly just nibble on whatever my sisters or nieces got as if I got a bag of candy it will totally go to waste as I won't eat it. Besides candy, they do have cool items like toys, cards, gifts, candles (like cookies and creme SAY WHAT) was tempted to buy but those signature candles were pretty pricy and but they did unique items like throw back items from the 80s to 90s! As a legit 90s baby it always warms my heart to see my childhood candy, toys or gear in general. The prices were reasonable even for Santa Monica. They had music playing and overall it was such a delightful treat! I did enjoy the "B**ch Citation (I don't cuss or use profanity) but it's the name of the citation. I seriously wanted to buy it but the therapist in me was like NOPE haha maybe one day - as that is seriously passive aggressive but hilarious. The staff was absolutely friendly, the long lines mood quick. My nieces LOVED this store along with their parents too! I was happy they were happy - it was a nice outing. This place is absolutely ridiculous. Twice I've come here at about 7pm and paid for parking to stop by and twice did they close earlier than their scheduled hours. The explosion of colors and over-manufacturization of candy wrappers will undoubtedly lure your sweet tooth in... SERVICE Employees kept to themselves during the COVID-19 holiday shopping weekend (12/20/20). I didn't buy anything. My homeboy did, though - and no complaints. I would have heard something if there were. Lol. MY FAVORITE PART... The nostalgia. The visualized face palms along with thoughts of "I used to enjoy eating that stuff?" Also, the sarcastic magnets near the cashier registers are creations after my own twister heart. NOT SO FAVORITE PART... The in-store background music. It's sugar is the best sweet shop with all my favorite old school and new school treats. It makes me smile and I feel like I got a golden ticket to the Wonka factory every time I walk through the doors. I work for CTA as a bus operator. The route I drive now, goes pass ITSSUGAR , so I decided on my off day I would take my daughters! Boy did I regret that decision. My fiancée , our girls and I were'nt in there for longer than 3 minutes before a female cop and male cop came in. We didn't think anything of it until the staff was quiet & acting weird. Watched my girls every move (they are 5 and 2) Policemen left out after we went up to the cash register to pay. The manager then procedeed to come up to us after paying our bill to compliment our daughters as if they werent the same cute when she watched us around the store. We walked out and the policemen stood in front of store then asked us would we like them to take our pictures (obviously from guilt). My daughters enjoyed themselves however we will never go spend our money there again. read more

It's been years since our last visit... there are still street performers & panhandlers but there were new shops that we haven't seen before, including IT'SUGAR. Back in the day, Sweet Factory was THE candy story, all sorts of sweet treats sold by weight; now there are all sorts of candy shops & bars. IT'SUGAR doesn't stand out except for some the wall candy that I've never seen before. If my LOs were with me, I'm sure they'll be bouncing off the walls in excitement before taking a bite. ;-) The bins were well stocked with candy & there were only a couple of tongs/spoons for each section instead of individually attached to each bin. Less cleaning? If this shop ever gets busy, that's a major inconvenience to the potential customer; I might try to hold onto that tong while I browse the bins. I did see a customer reach in to grab a sample with his hand. C'mon, at least use a spoon or tong! That's just unsanitary & sick, especially since flu season isn't over. In the back corner near the register is a wall of cute stuffed animals, not my thing but I'm sure my daughter will love these plushies too. IT'SUGAR is sugar heaven for candy lovers with a decent selection considering its size... good selection of flavored gummies, gummy sours, chocolates, & licorice. What I thought was cool & cute is the LEGO brick candies because they actually stack. :-) We picked up about 1/3 lb. of sweets to enjoy during the show & to share with our LOs. The self-serve candy bins are sold by weight & are a bit pricey so I don't expect to be a frequent customer... but it'll be a fun trip with my kids. It's like a kid in a candy store. LOL read more

I was disappointed to find they don't have chocolate Swedish fish anymore, however this very nice blonde employee politely showed me the chocolate gummy bears and my craving has been satiated If you need a last minute gag gift or sweet treat, I'd start here they never let me down. read more

How can you EVER go wrong with sugar coming from EVERY side! From chocolates to gummies to rock candies and those oddities in between, will satisfy all cravings. AVOID AT ALL COST.. This place used to be great. I went in there today to buy stuff and was put off ASAP while I saw homeless people in there touching and grabbing stuff out of the bins with their bare hands . EVERY STORE has the right to refuse service in this area & they should be more careful , especially as theses people stunk up the store, were menacing & put their hands on things people purchase to eat. read more

Such a fun store! Not just candy but fun gifts, shirts, coffee cups as well. My son and I had a blast walking around looking at the candy that is more geared towards adults, but he was pretty excited about getting bean boozled, jelly beans with horrible flavors like boogers or a dirty diaper...kids... Service is nice and the store has a huge selection of candy that is hard to find anywhere yourself, sure it's expensive but we also had fun mixing a bag of our favorite candy and it came out to about $7 for half a pound. Came for the Pusheen party. Workers there were a little unorganized. Didn't know where to go. Was told by several employees different directions. I was confused most of the time. Black dude with the glasses was funny AF. Other than that, it was really fun and awesome to get cotton candy and pictures taken with Pusheen. Did not win the Giant Pusheen. I am sad. read more

This store is a kids dream! I brought my son here for a quick stop as we were walking through the promenade and he was blown away! The variety of candy is insane, and they also have a wall filled with various party games. They have the standard baggie system, where you fill up a bag and they charge you based upon weight. Great store, just can't bring my son here too much or else his mouth will rot! * I decided not to post the names of the two associates* One star for my German guests being publicly and tactlessly accused of not paying for their bulk candy purchases. The associate who asked us was clearly embarrassed too, as she was being directed by the manager at the front desk. *Manager* was not at the register when our German guests had made their purchase, but she was there later when I made mine, a separate transaction. Instead of asking me at that time of my purchase, she instead radioed the associate in the middle of the store as we were exiting, only to be heard by every single patron standing there, as if we were walking off deceitfully. I stood at the entrance of the store, looking towards the registers watching *Manager* & especially *Male Associate* laughing at us with the other patrons. We were humiliated, without apology. We offered to provide both receipts but we were told "it's ok, nevermind." I should've returned everything we purchased right then and there. How do I know their names? Because I was so embarrassed at their lack of professional courtesy that I walked back to ask for them. It was only then that *Manager* & *Male Associate* stopped laughing. It's Sugar--if you're too embarrassed to accuse for bulk candy theft, I would suggest you employ better retail loss prevention instead of just "guessing" and handling it with a bit more tact and discretion rather than doing it in front of an audience. read more

This place is a mean tourist trap. There are not marked prices. My 11 yr old daughter bought a $19 wrapped jaw breaker without knowing how much it costs. When we tried to return it (within 10 minutes of buying it) they said they they would not take back any bulk candy even though the jaw breaker was wrapped. There are no prices near the display that held the jaw breaker. The girls running the store are rude and mean to crying 11 year olds. Don't go here!!! read more
